    Love this Brock! So many great points that I can relate to. I’ve always only dabbled cuz I’m not versed on the technological side of photography.. I know more about lighting cuz of makeup but would love to practice more and see where it takes me❣️ thanks for the inspo! Out of all things, I think I enjoy BTS the most (being a fly on the wall) and possibly beauty & fashion but just experimenting for now 🥰✌🏽✨

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  Před rokem +7

      Great questions! I use Instagram to promote and market most of my stuff. I have a relatively small audience, but they love to support. In terms of galleries, there’s usually only two options for someone at my level (not known in the art world). Option 1 - rent a gallery space and host your own event. Option 2 - Gallery takes a commission on all print sales. As for photo books, I collaborated with a photographer in NYC and that exposed me to a whole new group of people. Long story short, build a community who genuinely supports you and your work (easier said than done). ✌️

      Hey David, small production companies are always looking for bts photographers. But, if you want to make it more of a profession I’ve done some research and the title is called “Unit Stills Photographer”. That role is for major motion pictures, feature films and even some documentary work. The requirements to become one are usually a huge barrier for most, but worth checking out. I believe the main union in the US and Canada that represents Unit Stills Photographers is IATSE 667. Good luck!

  • @jkingwhistler

    Cool video. How do you handle release forms? My understanding is legally a photographer should also obtain signed releases from any recognizable person in the photograph, not just the main subject if used for commercial purposes. Larger groups or gatherings might be okay under editorial laws. Granted this is different depending on what country you live in.

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  Před rokem +1

      Hey Jay! Most commercial projects have release forms, but when it comes to street photography that would be next to impossible to implement. Hey Filip! Freelance is one of those tricky things no matter what industry you're in. What's worked for me is a balance of both reaching out to people (in person, emails or DM's) and people reaching out to me. One thing that seems to gain attention (which inevitably leads to work) is when I produce my own projects and invest in myself. You never know who's watching! Last thing I can add is that the larger your network the easier it is to get a referral, or know somebody that knows somebody who's looking for a creative to hire. Hope that helps dude! Peace.

      @@BryanBrock_ Yeaah, I thought so. The thing I'm missing out on the most is the freakin network as I moved to quite a remote location couple years ago and it definitely does me good in many ways but people I miss the most, talking about the same interests, visiting exhibition, even parties..Time for change I guess. PS: Thanks for your answer Bryan.

    Question: do you get model releases from the subjects/people in order to sell the prints of them?

    • @street4japan
      @street4japan Před rokem +1

      Would definitely need such releases in Japan if you want avoid dealing legal trouble. I try to avoid recognizable shots of persons for this reason if I might sell the shot. I am sure tourists can get away with taking candid shots since it might be more difficult to send a cease and desist letter to someone who has gone back overseas. That said, I have sent such letters to overseas bloggers, and website developers for using my images without a license.

      I don’t use model release forms for street photography. I share my Instagram contact for anyone who wants to know more about me and my work. Plus, I try to send people their photo if they want it.

    Wow I started doing BTS photography on sets after shooting street for 2-3 years. Going from street photography to BTS is unbelievably easy if you've practiced enough. I also started shooting event photography after some time doing BTS, street, portraits, etc. Street photography is ELITE. I heard someone say this before; It's not about how many followers you have, its about the community you have.

    Hello, thank you for the video, it gives hope! I am doing street photography as well and I post them on instagram, but I don't get any offer. I suspect that instagram is not the best place to post them, any advice on that? I am wondering if I should create my own website...

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  Před rokem +2

      Instagram is definitely not the best. I don’t know what is, but having a personal website and online shop is always a good look. The majority of my sales come from my website. Hope that helps! Good luck

    Hi man, I am a delivery driver and I want to do a street photographer while driving around. If I want to make money on those photos, the only way is print them out? Cannot do vlog or tiktok while driving because I would be fire right away. So only do a "truck photographer" . Can you give some advice?

      No need for release forms in public, but it does depend on what city and country you’re in. I believe there are different rules around the world.

    Did you have to get model waivers from all the people that appear in your photos?

    • @BryanBrock_
      @BryanBrock_  Před 10 měsíci

      For commercial work there is usually a model waiver. I don't use model waivers for street photography. If I have a conversation with someone I may ask for permission. I also like to send the photos to the people who I talk to as a form of appreciation. Hope that helps!

      Great question. It may be hard to sell a product without an established audience, but all it takes is that one person who's interested in your work and you're on your way. Slowly but surely as they say.
