Sometimes I think it's so hard to get motivated to go out in the cold to check for lambs in the night or start morning chores when it's so cold out. But it's well worth it when you wake up to a newborn healthy lamb or lambs standing with their mom. Thanks again for the education, and great videos.

first i would like to thank You for sharing with your experience with us, some unreachable knowledge for many people who is about to jump in to your world. Then I thought automated technology would make your work easier, I know they are expensive if you buy em from the stock, but making the progress yourself for better, easier way to farm I believe is the beauty of farming. I learn from other people and watch them, then build it

You've come a long way! I like the fact that your pens aren't as crowded in 2024. And now you have the nanny :) I think you may also have smaller breeding groups?

I'm a new sub. I have a tiny flock of 6 Clun Forest / Suffolks. My Clun Forest ewe recenly (9 days agp) lambed but we found she didn't have enough milk and took over bottle feeding the one survivor. The ewe lamb is doing awesome on the bottle growing awesome and strong! ~ Tracy PS: Enjoying your channel!

Try a heated hose should work better in the winter. I use one for making an ice rink works really well.

I know it would involve a little more thought, but have you considered putting ewes with multiple lambs in the pens close to the feed troughs? This would help with space since food would not have to be in their pen. Those little families of 3,4, and maybe 5 little lambies need that little bit of extra room.

Hi Sandi - I totally love your videos! Thank you so much for making them - I'm learning so much. I'm retiring in about 5 yrs. and am strongly considering starting a flock of sheep for extra income. My question for you is, what are the costs of raising a lamb to market? Everything I've seen on the internet in terms of numbers varies so widely, I don't know what to believe. I'm just wondering if it will be profitable enough for me as I'm looking to only have around 200 ewes. If you've already done a vlog on this subject, please let me know where I can find it as I haven't come across it yet. Thank you again and PLEASE keep vlogging!

So glad to hear you say you are prepared with a bottle for thin babes. I get so much grief for making a “new apple dumpling gang”. I seem to have a bunch every year which I know every other shepherd does. Do you give all new borns colostrum or wait and see if mom takes care of it? I have heard some tubing every lamb just in case which seems a ton of work especially with 100 lambs or more. How long do you wait?

  • @marthasundquist5761

That one mama that kept walking around you feeding her lamb was like.. 'what do you have that i don't look here's the udder!'

You should try and use buckets for the feed for the back ewes that way they don't waste the feed

Hi, during cold weather do you give colostrum regardless if the mom may have enough?
