1:29 - START OF BATTLE
the cvt is very limited by the ecu on the high ends to prevent belt slip and also belt tension at high rpms
The manual doesn't have to deal with that
Yes but the manual has to deal with gear shifting
@@danniarrezafirdausy2538 whats wrong with that? It's easy people are just lazy.
Only thing I dislike about the cvt is it lacks gear shifting. Other than that, it sticks the car at the ideal powerband, which when tuned for track racing, its bests all.
But when I daily my car, I need a clutch pedal and shifter
@@AIDAHAR210 Absolutely. I have a car with CVT transmission, and the way it goes just feels kinda weird. Manual is still the best in terms of fun since it really requires driver's attention and skill. (Pardon me for the bad grammar.)
@@MJT-DA nothing wrong, i like manual. But I think their cvt is not a joke either compared to other cvts
its Honda's CVT, not a garbage Nissan made called CVT

@@sharpvolt2669 Mitsubishi too ;)
What is cvt
@@rexsongodinho5623 CVT: Continues Viriable Transmission.
Its a belt that continuesly changes with the more torque thats asked.
Pretty interesting concept.
The transmission gives you the most efficient power chosen for the engine. The only drawback is they dont pop and bang. And they just make a certain rev noise that most people dont like.
But learn to drive it, it will be a great transmission.
@@V4YGR3 Honda actually made their car worse with their programming. Everything you said is correct but honda’s cvt would be more efficient if it weren’t programmed to rev like a traditional transmission. Honda knows this and if you go back to the battle you can see how the cvt drops it’s rpms to act like a traditional. This programming can help reduce stress on the engine at high rpms but if the cvt were used as efficiently as possible it would smoke the traditional by making max power 100% of the time. I have a 2019 civic btw.
CVT will accelerate faster at the beginning because it doesn't lose time between gear shifts and also important with a turbo is that it won't lose boost and have to respool as the next gear is engaged.
The ambient temperature for the manual car was 5degC and for the CVT car was 16degC. For a turbocharged car that is a significant difference. Both test should be done at the same temperature.
Nope since most cars are regulating the intake temperature anyway (at about 70°C mostly) :D
@@BruceCarbonLakeriver why would a car manufacturer "set" air intake temperature as 70 celsius for a car when it would get better fuel efficiency with lower temperatures?
@@GuilhermeGoto i dont think he's right... They do regulate the temperature, but not to 70 degrees lol... They tend to make it cooler via intercoolers, as the air tends to get hot while being compressed say at 6psi extra
CVT had less fuel... seemingly 50 pounds or more
@@BruceCarbonLakeriver If you have driven turbocharged cars before, you would notice the significant performance difference between a hot sunny day and cold day. The intercooler being a heat exchanger has a different thermal efficiency for such large changes in ambient temperature.
1. there is no vtec
2. the cvt is pretending to shift
There is VTEC.
@@vasilas432 there is no vtec (valve lift) in turbo engine, just dual valve timing. they add vtec on the exhaust cam only in the type R 2.0 turbo engine. see this for detail: www.civicx.com/forum/threads/vtec-vs-vtc-in-the-1-5l-turbo-engine-genx.10202/

but you will scarified "COMFORT" (put yourselves in 6 hour heavy jam road for 100km)
@@isDatBoi fr like manuals are cool but now dcts and autos are gaining and especially in a traffic jam its aids
Yes. True
I love manual as well, but one thing you have to realize in a turbo car is that every time you shift in a stick shift, you gotta let off the gas pedal and subsequently, you lose boost. You have to build up boost again after each shift. I have a Mazdaspeed3 right now and it's pretty apparent. Auto/CVT/DCT don't have this issue as your foot is still on the gas as the trans shifts. That's what you see in this video when the speed is lower(doesn't help that the guy shifting the stick is a bit slow IMO).
Of course, there are no lift shift tunes that combat this issue, but not a lot of cars have this function from the factory. You can also technically do it without the tune, but it's hell on your transmission and clutch.
@@kucharskipl If you have no-lift shift tune or you treat your clutch and transmission as disposables, go ahead. Not my car, not my money, not my problem.
Thumb up for the video! I was really curios how CVT will perform vs Manual as I was hearing CVT is very efficient...now I know it is good also in acceleration (at least Honda's)
acceleration yes,, but when you are slowing down and speeding up they are a bit choppy, and if you were on a track there would be no contest. just some food for thought. my girlfriend and I just bought one with a cvt and I have a 5 speed focus I like both.
@@richardparnell8402 This is a good point you highlight and a shortcoming on the viewers part when watching strictly-accelerating videos. It doesn't show the nature of the transmission in daily life. Definitely "rubber-bandy" and jerky for an "automatic"
@@worldofz00 thanks, yes I find when comming in and out of corners in a 5 speed I can be in the power band without even thinking about it. In a CVT it does take a second, it's not as smooth and you are guessing when the power will come on.
if your are considering CVT then choose Honda, there CVT is proven.
@@richardparnell8402 you can just use the manual mode 2 keep the revs up in the cvt. Bam instant response.
I really like the use of the music in this video.
Thank You so much
Chief could I ask a question?
For the CTV gear..the normal mode (not the sport one) the engine when I accelerate the engine sound is going to be louder so I remove my leg from the acceleration and push back gently. Is that normal or harmful for the car? Thanks!
The car in normal mode sits at lower rpms so that it saves fuel. So when you step on it after, first it needs to increase rpm to get more HP, and then it goes. In sport mode it sits in high rpms all the time. HP = torque x rpm.
mind blowing and crazy results
Agree
The CVT outpaces the manual at "useable" speeds up to 130kpm (75mph). Beyond that the manual has a tiny edge in the "arrest me" range. I opted for the CVT in my Civic Coupe, due to the high level of city driving we do. The acceleration is quick, but not fast. In the "real world" the balance of power & fuel economy, Honda nailed it!!!
Do you have 1.5t or 2.0 NA

How is your instrument cluster Blue rather than red is that a canadian or euro thing? or are you able to change it?
The only trims that receive the red cluster interface is the sport, si and type R. Blue = base models like EX, EX-L, LX ...etc
The ecu is limited to125?
I have a ‘19 sport hatch with a cvt. Should I look into trading it in for a manual or an Si? Probably want to save money more than have fun I guess
The Si is worth the upgrade. Just a better overall car if you’re ok losing cargo space.
Can the temperature change the performance? Because of the cooling.
c'est plutôt parce que l'air frais est plus dense que l'air chaud...
I wanna know how they got th3 si dash on the base model
Im enjoying the cvt... It allows me to stay in the "vtec" zone for longer... Having it auto with paddle shift... I can make full use of left leg braking and engine brake to maintain good balance and traction of the car during corners. Loving it.

@@acerockollaa Yeah my CVT in my lx. Accelerates quickly. I have no problems getting up to 100 mph almost instantly.
Mine doesn't do this fake shifting that happens in the video, if I put it in drive but brake hold on then plant the accelerator it just endlessly holds the revs as high as it possibly can indefinitely while you accelerate, I have no idea how the uploader even manged to get the car to fake shift like it is.

The results surprised me. In the side-by-side speed comparison, they were nearly identical up to 202 kph or 125mph. Then the manual pulled away. I believe the CVT is limited to that speed. As the acceleration is basically the same, the manual is a waste of effort. I am glad I got the CVT.

Nice manual
why the cvt sounds have gear shifting?
I want to see a redo of this run with fakeshift off.
Not possible
CVT's are technologically more advanced than they used to be, I'm actually more surprised the manual kept up as much as it did. I'm sure the the manufacturer probably states the CVT as the faster transmission.
E a diferença do tanque de ambos? Não levaram isso em consideração?

This in insanely surprising. Who also expected manual to be a lot faster? but the video shows it is the same or cvt is faster..
10°C cooler ambient during manual transmission run - could explain power and acceleration disparity. Don't get me wrong, I'd still take the manual trans 100%

So, the manual managed 0-200kmh in 28 seconds. The most comparable car is a subaru wrx, which does 0-200kmh in 22 seconds. And its AWD. I wonder how these sell

The manual reaches its top speed faster so sure both have the same speed, but the manual has better acceleration.
Are u blind ?
0 - 130 CVT is faster
You mean manual has better torque?
Why does the cvt look like it's shifting gears?
They have to fake the gear shifting because people find it’s weird for engine rev to stay constant when accelerating.
結果どゆこと?
No way you are not flooring that CVT. I own a 4 door 2016 CVT Honda civic EX-T and it goes to 200 rpm short of redline is much smoother and shaper. Mine is normal factory everything and does a launch 0-100 kph in 5.7 seconds. The only civic thing that beats that is a 10th gen SI and not by much.
People like you keep me employed as a firefighter. Just try to hit a pole and not a minivan with children eh.

If you have the Honda with a CVT transmission, drain out that fluid & refill it, make sure you use the CORRECT fluid ONLY from the factory/dealer .It's easy to do a drain & fill & it's so important on the CVT transmissions... FYI when they fuck up Honda replaces the whole transmission there's no way to fix these & they do not sell parts for them 🤷🏼 I had the CVT transmission in a '17 civic hatchback wound up trading it now I have the 2020 Accord 2.0t & 10-speed Auto.
