    You know a character like Nicholas D. Wolfwood is simply amazing when the author of the series even said a part of him died when he killed off Wolfwood. Trigun in it's entirety is greatness.

      @FEMTO Yes. Very mad. I feel like his death hit me hard because Wolfwood didn't want to die. He even yelled he didn't want to go. Characters like Spike Spiegel i can get behind dying because he died with nothing to lose and his journey ended. But with Wolfwood he had so much more in life to do and more people to help like he wanted.

    I don't know what hurts more. The fact that Wolfwood finally adopts Vash's way of thinking and it kills him, or that Vash is forced to resort to killing in the very next episode.

    • @DarkVaati13
      @DarkVaati13 Před 9 lety +357

      perhaps a bit of both. And look at it this way. once he adopts Vash's mentality that gets him killed and Vash blames himself and Legato uses it to make Vash feel even worse. And then Vash takes Wolfwood's words to heart and compares them to Rem's and he decided at the end that her peaceful dream was impossible.

      +DarkVaati13 Not possible in an imperfect world but it's worth trying. Forgive ourselves. God forgives us. sometimes it hardest to forgive ourselves. Only God is perfect. Vash gets a taste of human imperfection and it broadens his narrow view.

      Skull Knight This show was about learning to be human. Wolfwood May have died but he finally learned what it meant to be human...by showing mercy.
      Vash has to learn the other side of humanity: that sometimes, in order to many lives, you HAVE to take the life of another.
      Wolfwood lost his life to learn his lesson and Vash has to abandon REM’s pacifist philosophy to learn his. Either way, something in them had to die in order for them to become truly human.

    • @aleksisuuronen5969
      @aleksisuuronen5969 Před 3 lety +17

      But it's all about the balance. Vash learns you have to make that kinda decisions sometimes in life with that Legato situation. You should try your best but there is those end of the roads and it was a learning experience, harsh one but still. In the final fight with Knives their both guns energy coming together forms a ying and yang symbol for a moment because they both were a total opposite of their way of thinking but in the end some form of balanced middle road is better than to look thinks only thru duality. Vash was too optimistic since you should have hope ofcourse but he couldn't accept the realities of the world as it is and sometimes anything isn't enough and when you've given your all you shouldn't beat yourself down thru eternity like Vash did. I'd say he doesn't kill Knives because he completes Vash and thru him Vash actually learned to let go of the guilt that was inside of him (not to say it was ok to do those sadistic and horrible things Knives did to him) and the end gives hope maybe Vash can do the same to Knives and bring him closer to the center from the far end with his optimism.

    What I really gets me about this death is that it isn't a stereotypical "die with a smile on your face, content with your life" death. Instead, he goes out like a real life person would, saying how they're not ready to die. That's what makes this really sad for me.

    • @owencity77
      @owencity77 Před 9 lety +25

      Wrathamon28 he died the way he think he deserves it so he's just filled with humbleness and if that's what he wanted he's filled with content and that's what my opinion is anyway. what I love about this scene is I've been living like him and I know that it's really amazing because it's true up to the point at which is the way he felt about smoking. I haven't tried it (well not actively anyway) but I know I liked it and I won't do it again because I don't want her (whom I loved) to be sad. So this scene made me accept the fact that I can't and won't be perfect because we're not Gods. We're just mere mortals and we only need to be ourselves. We need to do what we think is best for the best of all humanity (and still accept the fact that I might not be able to do it). So that's my opinion on this scene. Just sharing here. You don't like it, don't read it. Liked it? Then you're welcome :)

For the first time in life he has people who love him and realizes he doesn't need to be a murderer, and now he has to die. A broken man opening his heart before God, only to say he is sorry. I agree with this 100 percent. To be anime these days the show has to undergo a specific formula and style. Being anime today is such a predictable, shallow thing now. In my opinion anime has become more and more conformed to one line of passage. They stick to a very short reach of depth. Which is why I love older anime. It had its old tropes like any, but I feel their was more variety and down to earth themes that made shows like this, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Cowboy Bebop beloved even now. They hold more water than any typical high school Adventure story can dish out.

    One of the most tragic and heart-rending death scenes in all of anime... Wolfwood's soliloquy was simply beautiful. In his dream of paradise all he saw were the children and Milly, as well as Vash and Meryl. The sadness comes with the fact that he was a realist that knew killing and violence was unfortunately necessary but dreamed of a world in which there would be no more killing and violence.
    In less than 5 minutes, Wolfwood justifies his actions, nearly begs for a second chance in life, questions his life's decisions, and begs God for forgiveness.
    It's nothing short of beautiful. His death does not go in vain as Wolfwood's death would go on to impact Vash by the end of the series.

    Damn, he actually confessed to his narrow way of thinking and how he should've listened to Vash, admitting that your way of doing things was wrong is never an easy thing to do but I guess that facing your own mortality is the one time when you're truly honest with yourself. Truly the most human character I've ever seen in any media.

    "The only solution for bad and violent people, are good people that are more skilled in violence." And that ladies and gentlemen is Wolfwood. He has lived life in its purest form, walking in its mirror, peace and chaos, total balance. To carry the cross and still hold on to it in his last moments, symbolizes the fact that he is mortal, he is human, that he knows he had done violence but still believes in good, in humanity. To not be afraid of death but still deny it when it comes because life is still beautiful, life is still worth living, despite the chaos and gunsmoke. To kiss cigarette smoke in the face of death, while carrying mercy shining upon him, to taste the beauty of life and mortality.
    Ahh one of the greatest and saddest moments in anime, makes you realise how fragile life really is, and that its still beautiful.

    This scene shows just how powerful the writing of Trigun was. You see Wolfwood finally at peace with himself, finally accepting Vash's way of thinking, reflecting back on his whole life, wanting nothing more than peace and to correct any mistakes he made in the past. It strikes a cord in our hearts because each of us can relate to him in this moment. We all have regrets, we all hurt somebody in the past, with intention or not, we all look for our personal Eden where we can live in peace with the people we love. Wolfwood had finally found the path he always looked for in his life, found people he loved and now his life was over. He didn't want to die because he finally found a reason to be alive.

    And there went Wolfwood. (que trigun final scene music) I'm sad he had to die; I was hoping he and Milly would run the orphanage together and find peace like he realized right before his death that he had wanted all along. It would have been a great spin-off of the Trigun series to have a Wolfwood based series where he struggles to turn over a new leaf and value life in the same regard as Vash the Stampede, where he deals with the haunted memories of the past and learns why life is so precious, but alas; here lies the end of Nicholas D. Wolfwood -- one of the greatest mortal immortals to have ever perished in an anime in one of the most gangster scenes ever which is essentially the anime equivalent of the ending scene in Scarface or even Troy. I think it really hit me because it was the first time I saw such an emotional scene where the person begs not to die, you really felt how much he wishes he could just be healed up and back with his friends, continuing their journey as though everything was like any other day, but nope, that's not how life always works. When it's your time, it's your time. And how some of us are unfortunately taken to whatever awaits after death when we’re not ready. But this man, this human being, was lost and and simply did what we all do; love the life we want to, no matter how painful or sad it can and will be. There is peace after death. My friends, Wolfwood is the definition of all of us. We are wretched sinners, all of us. We believe that our good works could dare meet God’s standards to enter into eternal life. They do not, and they never will. But if man would humble himself and accept the fact that he is indeed a sinner and they have no other hope but Christ.
    Who is Christ?
    The Lord Jesus that was nailed to the timber cross in public shame, who bore the debt of sins of the world, to make sinners righteous before God. It is Him who died, and it is Him who rose from the grave by God’s power.
    It is Him that we believe in, Him we put our trust in. For He did the very thing that we could never do, for none who believe in Him are not put to shame. And anyone who believes in Him is born again, you are no longer the same person you once was, you belong to Him, and He loves you forever. He is the only way that man can have peace with the Lord God.
    I love you all, I do, and I hope to see each and every one of you one day above, in heaven with Christ Jesus. Farewell. (Romans 3:23, Romans 9:10-13)

    The Italian monologue was even more sad but in any case, this scene alone always had me in tears in any language

    This scene is so heavy because at first he seems to be accepting of his death, but then right before he dies he starts to realize he isn’t ready to die.
