- In Seiko's storied past, no watch captures that enthusiast spirit better than the Pogue Speedtimer chronograph. Famous for its Pepsi bezel and shining golden dial, the model has become a cornerstone of vintage Seiko collecting, and often serves as proof that the prospective owner has now gone past the enthusiast point of no return. So what better colourway to use for the next version of the popular Seiko Prospex Speedtimer chronograph? Originally released in 2021 in a panda variant, before getting a diameter bump and some colourful, 6139-adjacent bezels, the Prospex Speedtimer Pogue SSC947 finally gets the most revered Seiko colour scheme of them all.

Just found the next watch for my collection. History. Retro flare, And Solar. All wrapped in Seiko reliability, Magic!
As a fellow Seiko fanboy, I don't know if anything could possibly do justice to the original, but I'm thrilled they're trying.
Often the book is better than the movie. The original is so coveted a 1:1 revival would obviously be welcome, but to bring Pogue flavour into this collection is a welcome addition as well.
Yeah, I think this is an excellent watch in its own right. Gives a flavour of the old, while being part of a modern line of Seiko chronographs.
@@TimeandtidewatchesWith the lack of horns on the case, this isn’t in the same continent, let alone anywhere within a rumor of 1:1. Since they didn’t bother with any flare on the dial, they could have hidden the huge solar arrays beneath the dial. The black ring matches the solar arrays, though, which is a plus for some.
If any of these transgressions matter, look only to Detroit Mint for a non-cynical tribute.
Got an original Pogue and I’ll be getting one of these, love it. It’s a re-imagining, a nod to the original, and not trying to recreate it.
I’ve preordered one, can’t wait to get my hands on it
An automatic version would probably be 4 times the cost, so this solar quartz means it’s affordable to all. I will definitely be getting one to add to my collection, and maybe an original if I can find one.
Totally agree - and with vintage Pogues still being somewhat affordable, getting a modern and (much) more expensive version would feel odd.
I just received this watch today from Japan. For me I know this is not a true “Pogue” watch, but I love the color of the dial. If Seiko released a true mechanical “Pogue” replica, I’m sure that would cost allot more. For me this is my first Chronograph and will enjoy for a long time.
I always lusted after the original Pogue seeing it in catalogues as a kid. This modern reinterpretation is great imho. Definitely getting one. Seiko seem to be on a big roll with their heritage recreations/reinterpretations.
Love it looks great, a very practical everyday watch.
I own the vintage 6139, which I bought from its first owner 15 years ago. I adore the watch, particularly the fact that any mechanical parts can still be sourced by my venerable Seiko watchmaker in North Vancouver, Hisao Yokota. Nonetheless, it is becoming more challenging to wear frequently as it is irreplaceable, so I would love a newer version… but this is too far from it to scratch that itch.
Pre-ordered one - its the closest to a Pogue I am going to get.
Check out Detroit Mint’s effort. Much better and more gettable.
Good video and watch. Clever homage 🎉❤
Such an awesome watch!
Sapphire crystal and Solar make it a reliable grab and go watch. No fiddly movement, no setting time date, no expensive maintenance. Just wear and enjoy.
I think it’s a very nice bit of Seiko fan service. Gold, red and blue? Stunning! But that 24 hour hand? Pointless!
I mean it looks awesome :)
Original is cool. The remake is fantastic. Can’t wait to pick one up. 👍
Absolutly love this, think I will be buying one :)
Beautiful
Love it! There’s some great quartz options out there these days. Already got plenty of automatics.
Oh man, I might have to spring for that... I've said it before: if Seiko added an independent adjustment to that 24-hour subdial (pusher in the case maybe?) they'd have a GMT killer on their hands.
If they make an automatic version of this. It will be an instant buy for me.
I'm buying one. Honestly I love vintage watches, but as an amateur watchmaker there is a LOT of expense involved in buying coveted vintage watches and keeping them running. This is all of the utility, class, purpose and look plus technology rolled into one and it will be available soon. Honestly it's like being able to go back in time and buy a vintage car of your dreams, but with a new, reliable engine and no work required. I'm sold. Side note, I have two Seiko watches and both watches get wrist time regularly. There is something extremely hard to put into words about Seiko's design. Simply put, it is stellar, and you will look at your Seiko over and over again throughout the day. It's like they've figured something out about design like Rolex has. There is just something about certain watches that look 'right'.
This is a 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird quality of tribute/homage/re-imagining. An approach by Seiko equally parts tone deaf and cynical, yielding a product with none of the art and grace of the original.
Bring back the real OG. We know you can do it; you've done it with the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Always had my eye on these solar speedtimers but none of the colourways spoke to me. This one certainly does - what a combo. On preorder….
I love a small seconds sub dial but, I think the new version is nicer, I agree with you about the date tho, I think 3 sub dials is enough for any dial, whatever the size 👍
Awesome watch, looks great and for the money you can’t go wrong!! My dad has an original version but doesn’t keep great time…… great episode 👍
Really nice watch, just collected mine and they’re sold old pretty much everywhere where I live now. I like it because it’s quite different colour wise to anything else in my collection.
I don’t see it as anything other than retro coloured watch, I’m not gonna get excited about it replicating or even paying tribute to the original, it’s just a nice new watch👍🏻
I was gonna buy the white version, but this is cool as. Loving the Pepsi outer dial.
how can we draw a parallel between this and the real 6139-60XX ! INCREDIBLE!☠️
Yeah man, wow! The marketing is getting off the rails.
I have an origianl Pogue. A great piece. It's also been referred to at a 'Pepsi' Seiko or a 'Vietnam' Seiko.
This I can take or leave. Not crazy about the quartz movement.
Very cool video, I really don't like this watch but I will buy one to support the channel 👍 you do good work and is very important to share this knowledge withh others bless you sir 😀 👍
Love the pogue color scheme but would have preferred an automatic.
Not my cup of tea but i appreciate the efforts. Me, I'd probably go for the Coke one as in my opinion there are not enough, good, Coke watches in the market nowadays
sod it, I am getting one, I have a non Pogue 6139 but its too fragile these days, this speedtimer is perfect for what I need (which is another watch :) )
The beater Pogue 💪
thats the spirit
Back in the day,I I wanted a Mustang so my Dad found me a Maverick that was Green Metal flake with a Racing stripe painted down the middle! Thats what this "Solar Pouge" is,A Maverick painted to look like like a Mustang!
I really hope seiko brings affordable mechanical chronographs just like they have gmts. I think a lot of people would be interested in having this.
what a sexy watch
please review the grand touring version of this thanks!
The design and colour of the original Pogue is somehow cannot be surpassed, no matter how many inspired models Seiko launches. May be Seiko should just come out with the exact copy of Pogue.
they brought it back?
Pogue has become a color not a watch...
It’s perhaps Pogue pantheon rather than Pogue revival
Folks remember, this watch is not a reissue of the 1973 Pouge. That’s just journalists making the comparison. Seiko does not claim it has anything to do with that watch. It’s just a classic Seiko colorway.
Actually, Seiko did originally list the watch as being a 'Pogue', in both the title and the description, though subsequently removed all references to the name...
Wow I may have to get one although I vowed to never purchase another seiko ever 😂
Mines on order 😅
sick serial number @4:04
I've got the panda and adore it. This pogue just ain't working
Seiko never called this a Pogue watch. The internet did.
They didn’t have to.
And for space?
Maybe it should be made with 2 sub dials by removing the 24 hour display. Dial will be less cluttered.
It's a shame the solar sub dials couldn't be a similar colour to the dial.
Price?
I own 4 watches, two casio duro's and two seiko 5's so I am not really a fan boy or watch enthusiast, and I think the old version looks way better.
why solar again??? i want a speedtimer in 41 mm in automatic. under 1500 euros. please
has seiko no automatic chrono in the lower range? the original was an automatic, too.
Thank you!!!
Finally some reason concerning the price of an automatic Seiko chronograph!!!
If the Pitzmann 3 can cost less than $1500, then Seiko can too.
@@Swiss_Army_Knife1780You do know that Pitzman is in red on every sold watch, just iconic 8r 46 costs more than 850$.
@@Swiss_Army_Knife1780 yes but i am a customer too. and i wait for it;) 2500 3000 for a seiko chrono would be too much for me. but seiko is a manufacture company. this must he possible. i don't really lije three arm watches...
If they have its gonna be at least 18mm thicc. :D
@@deskdiverdanny
The Pitzmann 3 is 13.5 mm thick.
I own one.
Should I get one? Hmmmm
I think it's cool. Can't understand all the negativity here.
Would have been nice if they’d sent you one with a working movement…
Why cant seiko make affordable automatic chronographs anymore?
Maybe the original design got lost? They'd have to do an Omega, and completely rebuild one from scratch.
Because they are expensive to make. Only a very few chronographs still exist. Pretty much all mass produced chrono's are based on the valjoux or the breitling b01. The rest uses a normal movement with a Dubois Depraz chrono add-on, making the movement very thick and hard to service. It's not gonna happen at Seiko.
@@keesketsers5866 if Omega can do it with the 321, trust me Seiko can.
Calling this watch "The Pague" is just a lie. Call a Spade a Spade. It's a SPEED TIMER.😏
Good job nobody is calling it the “Pague” then 🤣😂🤣
@@simong6855 You're welcome.
It's a maverick painted like a Mustang!
I actually like the design better but this is definitely not a recreation of the original.
They at least should of made it automatic, if seiko would of done that they'd have one awesome watch on there hands .
If only it had a minute and an hour counter, or a 1/10 second counter and a minute counter like the awesome Seikos from the 80's. If the 24 hour dial could be independently set it could act as a GMT dial. The unadjustable 24 hour dial that runs in lockstep with the hour hand is useless. I can tell if it is am or pm without help from a watch.
It really feels Seiko is being extra lazy lately, i'm a fan of the Pogue but that just a Speedtimer re-skinned.
Why only $5,000?
maybe an jubilee bracelet will go bettet look
Are they going to bring this to the 39mm case, too?
Curious about that too
If the original astronaut watch was from Rolex the price would have gone through the roof, insted it went dow the drain
I dunno...a 70 dollar watch that sold for 5k is pretty good, no?
I guess Solar is nice, but i wish they would have made it automatic like the original. The "purist' wont be happy. LOL!
Solar? What blasphemy is this? Seiko needed to make this an automatic. Besides that, I'm into the styling on it. Story time: my first wrist watch ever was a cheap Seiko solar model chrono, I think about 300 dollars (long time ago). After not charging for a long time, I couldn't revive it. Put me off solar forever.
Did you attempt to service it before tossing? All watches require servicing eventually. Guessing the capacitor needed replacement.
@@LimitedWardmost likely the point of failure, yeah. I had it five years at the very most.
It appears to be broken
its a media watch. Very often they are blocked movements.
This is a compleately unnecessary watch, a caricature of the original I would say
Not too bad but i prefer my original 6139 pogue ! Maybe the next ! They can do it. Here it's just a try !
What an absolute embarrassment to the original.
Agreed.
Would you honestly have expected a 1:1 recreation?!
@@redletterl78 uh yes pretty damn close actually..Look at the recreation of the Seiko navigator GMT...Thing is nearly bang on and absolutely sick! ..So yes- I expect that..
yeah, basically. 😊
Willing to bet Pogue would have opted for a solar Chrono if they existed back then.
Great watch for children
So I guess you have already ordered yours ?
@@r7coo I already have a panda version of this watch.
Pitzman builds a chrono with a Seiko 8R48, column wheel, vertical clutch. ($1500 retail!) Seiko gives us another bastard child. Corporate dweebs slap a gold dial on an existing model and say "goodn'uff". I want a modern re-release of the Pogue. Comparing this to the 6139 Pogue is sad. What a joke...I'm sure they'll sell a lot of them.
Too much vocal fry! Unlistenable. Adios.
Too big
What? It's a normal size.
Meh
I’ve just had one delivered, so looks like I’m the first on here to comment with one actually in my hand, had a Quick Look and it’s being returned. Noooooo waaaaay is this watch worth £600 it’s a £150 watch at best. Looks like any of the cheap Seiko watches they sell in crappy low end high street stores in the UK. The date window is minute and not even framed, the case is cheap looking, no proper finished surfaces just cheap shiny rubbish , the clasp is poor with hardly any micro adjustment, I can guarantee if you buy one you will look at it and instantly regret it and realise it’s a cheap cheap crappy watch for the money. I’m done with Seiko, they are playing on the cult status some of their past success stories and ripping us off with cheap finished, average offerings, at three times their worth. The Orient Mako chronographs are way way better value than these and a third of the price.
It is a disgrace to the 6139! But i would still get one lol
