    I have bought 3 of them. I used my first one as my main mower for my first year in business. When it bit the dust I bought the next one and made that one my parts mower. Now I have done the same thing with my last one. For the price on these mowers you can’t beat them, yet. No one has come close to the efficiency of the toro time master. Some have tried, many have failed.

    Good video.
    My 2015 Toro Timemaster failed last month with no drive to the right hand wheel.
    This was after nearly 7 years of home use. Around 45 minutes per week, something like 800 miles.
    Running the wheels down ditches / border edges puts a lot of lateral load on the transmission.
    I removed the transmission.
    I stripped the transmission down and found the problem not to be gears or halfshaft problems, but a split in half halfshaft retaining bush that doubles as an oil circulation paddle (the transmission housing is half full of 20-50 or 15-40 oil).
    This 2 bit bush was made of plastic and clearly the weak link. No parts are available for the transmission internals, in the UK anyway!
    It holds the halfshaft in with a little cross pin that the paddle / bush is pushed onto, in production.
    Split in two it allowed the halfshaft / inner drive transfer wheel to float away enough not to get any drive from the crown wheel when the cable pulled the actuator lever.
    I've made a brass bush (have lathe will turn) and machined out the paddle so it fits over the brass bush. A stainless steel bolt through the paddle halves and bush / halfshaft keeps it all in place. Now all is in place it works just as it should.
    Pulls like a train again.
    The worst part was cleaning all the silicone gasket sealant they'd used when assembling.
    I used an automotive Silicone gasket sealant - works fine.
    The other halfshaft has a similar bush / oil paddle but is in great condition!
    Perhaps I had a odd faulty moulded plastic bush?
    Seems not though as so many people have the problems.
    It's common for companies to have epidemic failures on some parts. Once reported back they update and fix.
    There is nothing on the internet about stripping / repairing these transmissions. You are expected to pay the $150 + tax or £181 for a whole new transmission!
    I reckon the updated transmissions of the newer ones would be an upgrade to these bushes!
    I'm making a little video about the steps and what I did to repair it. Will post up soon.
    Regards,
    Steve

    Using this for my house has been great. 30" cut makes it such a quick task. It's not a commercial grade mower however particularly with the pulleys.

  • @nathangant7636
    @nathangant7636 Před 3 lety

    The Timemaster 30 has worked very well for me after a year and half, using it on multiple lawns. You can expect to replace cables, pulleys, and belts. Spindles are sealed and have no grease fittings. Most moving parts are relatively cheap to replace. Keep an extra pulley kit on hand, they do tend to wear out and one bad pulley bearing will shut down the mower.
    It's important to pay attention to any excess vibrations.
    I've had several cracked blades on my Toro Timemaster 30. Unusual vibration could mean one of the blades may be starting to crack from stress. Hairline cracks may be almost invisible to naked eye but will produce considerable vibration when synchro belt is engaged and blades are turning. Once you know your mower, you should be able to detect vibrations if you're paying attention. I think these Toro blades are problematic but they could redesign the blades to increase the elasticity of the carbon steel and reduce brittleness all of which is contributing to the cracked and broken blades.
    I'm happy with my Timemaster going on almost 2 years with work in multiple accounts. As stated above, all cables, pulleys and belts have been replaced. All in all, it's a heavy beast and can do commercial work but be prepared for downtimes for periodic maintenance. Everything can be DIY if you have mechanical ability. But don't put off the essential inspections and regular maintenance. Pay attention to vibrations which means something is out of balance.
    I've actually heard of one roadside fatality from a commercial pull-behind rotary mower breaking off one of its blades and hitting a passerby in the head and killing him. Freak accident in that case.

    I see a lot of comments in here of people purchasing multiple toros over the course of a few years because they are “cheap”. It’s too early to tell, but if the FW15 winds up being as long lasting and reliable as they appear, the $3k price tag starts to look like a deal compared to replacing timemasters every few years.

  • @rbljackson
    @rbljackson Před 5 lety +1

    Johny, I cant speak for the Timemaster, but I have 2 Exmark Commercial 30's. They have held up pretty well and we use them a lot. Not sure of the hours, but they are our primary mowers. I keep the following extra parts: transmission, a set of 2 anodized pulleys for the spindle belt, one splined belt for the spindle, 1 blade engagement belt, 1 transmission belt, and that idler pulley that engages the blades. I Love the 30's with the exception of the trans issues. When blade speed starts to bog, its usually because there is build of of grass and dirt under the spindle cover area, or the belt needs replaced. The decks do build up a lot in the spring and will clump in wet conditions, BUT....they are a GREAT MACHINE overall. MUCH faster than 21's!! I agree with you. The 30 can mulch, bag or side discharge, and you can switch quickly!!

    Great mower on my second one. Toro just put a lot of cheap parts on it. Only problems I had with them are self propelled cable and blade cable will brake but no problem with transmission. And I use them commercially. Turfmaster is too heavy and way over price.

    Nice job. I have a first gen with 100-150 hours. The gas cap is a POS and Toro wants a fortune for a replacement, so I added a thicker O-ring to stop the leaks. Only other repair was a replacement blade brake cable. Overall, I'm content, but I'm eager to try a second gen for the extra hp.

    We use these commercially, theyre fantastic. They have replaces 21" trim mowers almost totally for us. Mulch great, discharge when needed. Time saved...tons. Quirks to get used to but worth the learning curve. Ours are 2014 model years. I updated the belt cable tensioner and gearbox. We go through one front adjustment plate per season, and some cable'belts at about the same rate as any other machine with lighter duty cables.

      @@JohnnyMow Thanks Johnny. I have the Stihl BR800 and Echo PB8010. I wanted to add a small handheld blower because sometimes during fall clean ups, I need to clean corners of yards, under shrubs, and the eavestrough on roofs. The big backpacks can't get in there. I have been looking at the Echo PB2620 X series and the Stihl SH86. The echo currently can't be converted to a vac but is cheaper than the Stihl SH86 by $90. I was just wondering if it is worth it to get the vac or simply stick to the smaller handheld and pick up the blown debris.

      @@F.D.Matrix the turf master hdx has updated to a big transmission but the regular turf master has the same tranny just heavier build. I would never own the turf master can’t fold up the handles and it’s very heavy. Very satisfied with the timemaster
