Thanks so much, I really enjoy getting out with him but it was such a shame we could not see a thing at the top. Cheers Alan
Top walk Al and well done Harry!
Thanks Chris, he had still legs for the next two days but then again, after the Christmas I had, so were mine lol! Cheers Alan
Lovely upload Alan enjoyable to watch with some stunning views all the best Naomi & Mark - like 38 with a full 13 minute plus view for support
Very nice of you, always appreciate it. I hope you both are well, cheers Alan
Nice job boys in a beautiful location. Harry is growing up fast! Interesting to see this place this time of year. My greatest outdoors memories are being out in the woods with my grandfather. Thanks Alan & Harry! 🤘🏼

Thanks Jeanie, very nice of you to say that and it was a real nice day out with my grandson, despite the weather not being the best. I hope you get hiking with your grandkids too. Thanks for watching, cheers Alan
Alan way to get out with the grandson...I'd love it if my dad did something like this with my son! He will remember that time forever..Nice to have a pub at the trail head!!! Way to rock out the misty summit!! Great work guys.
Thanks very much for the great comment and taking the time to watch. I said to Harry, one day you might bring your son of grandson back up here and if you do, give me a few seconds thought at the top, one thing for certain, I will not be around then lol! Cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN that is an awesome message Alan! I know he will cherish that memory.

Thanks Mo, appreciate you watching and despite the weather, I always enjoy spending time with Harry. Hope to you see out again this year Mo mate, cheers Alan
Awesome adventure with the grandson! He'll remember that for years.
It was a brilliant day and I really enjoyed it with my grandson. Thanks for watching, cheers Alan
Wonderful hike with your grandson. Always great to get out there with the kids sharing the fresh air and the views. The colors are gorgeous! Wishing you both a beautiful day x)
Thanks very much for watching, I love getting out with my grandson, even though the weather was not the best. Cheers Alan
Wow, needed a rope right off the bat. Thats a sure thing the its going to be a goooooooood hike. You got to spend a great day with your grandson. This are the days that will live in both your memories forever. Nothing better then that. Great video.
Thanks very much, appreciate your kind words and taking the time to watch. Funny thing is, I just finished watching your Egyptian Gardens video 4 minutes ago lol! Cheers Alan
Your grandson is destined to become a future METALMAN !!!!!!
Oh, fingers crossed for that lol. Thank you so much for watching, I always appreciate it, cheers Alan
Nothing like a hike with family, I love that you take them out, including the young ones! ❤️ Oh all these Christmas puddings 😂 Wow, that's a steep hill, it is a tough climb! The stream and little waterfall are lovely. Gorgeous picture of Harry at 4:31. I remember the video you did of this hike when you swam there! I recognized it right away, even before you mentioned it! 😉 It is such a beautiful hike. When we are back in Europe, I want to hike it. The mist moves really fast! Love your grandson's face to the "Final Countdown" song. He may not even know it! LOL The view is spectacular. Will try to remember those tips, thanks Alan! Harry did awesome, big thumbs up for him 👍💪
Thanks very much for such kind words and a great comment. I was real pleased with him as he done great on not the best of days but he still enjoyed it and wants to come out aging with me, so all good. Appreciate you watching, cheers Alan
Well done Alan and Harry a great day out on Blencathra. Yes, I can still taste that METALMAN tea I made with the water from the Tarn. Liked your singIng Alan, very tuneful. Cheers ⛺️🍺
The pipes were a bit out of fettle, due to the mist Mike lol. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed Spain, cheers Alan
Awesome vlog Alan. Nice to see young Metalan hiking with grandpa.
Thanks very much for watching and your kind words. I always enjoy getting out with my grandson and pleased that he managed it as well. Cheers Alan
Amazing you took the young lad on a 3000 ft' mountain hike. Give him a few years he will have his own CZcams channel lol. You made me laugh when you were singing Its the final countdown when you almost got to the top lol. Great job to you and your grandson.
Ha ha thanks Eric but the mist had got into my pipes, so way out of tune lol. I really enjoyed the day out with him, just a shame about all the cloud at the top. Thanks for watching Eric, cheers Alan
Awesome! That looks like a spectacular area. The overcast weather made it feel kind of mystical and you still got some great views. I bet its even more fantastic in clear weather. Very nice to see your grandson out with you. Memories to last a lifetime!
I was up there in the summer on a super hot day and the views were amazing, you could see over the Irish Sea and from the other side, see into Scotland, unfortunately, all we got was clouds and mist on this day. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Enjoyed that Alan, great to see young Harry out in the hills.
I was so pleased that he made it to the top and enjoyed it, even though it was not the best of weather and we could not see a bloody thing on the top lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Very interesting.Thank yo so much for sharing this nice video, Alan!!!!
Was really great 😃LIKE # 58
Thank you very much for watching Patrizia, I always appreciate it, cheers Alan
What a great adventure with your grandson! Another epic hike with spectacular views! Thanks for taking us along Alan. See ya next time👍
Cheers guys and that's so much for watching. Always a special time out with my grandson and despite the poor weather, we both enjoyed it, cheers Alan
Great adventure to take your grandson! It's beautiful place there with the lake to visit and to make nice pictures! Fantastic! 👍❤
Thanks very much for watching and always a special day when I am out with my grandson, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN your grandson is lucky to have you. You must be great grandpa and very jung! 😃 👍
Thanks very much for watching and your kind words, it's always a special day to be able to take him out. Cheers Alan
What a beautiful hike. You’re a great encourager! Beautiful photography and views!!
Thank you very much for watching and it is always nice to hike with my grandson, who, despite the weather, still enjoyed the day, cheers Alan
Awesome Video! Looks like an awesome place with good company! Thanks for taking us along! Have a Blessed day!
Always special company with my grandson, so despite the weather, we had a blast. Thanks for watching guys, cheers Alan
Good walk Alan. Great to see you out with your grandson. Great views. The Tarn looks great shame about the mist. Thanks Steve.
Thanks Steve, and always enjoy going out with my grandson, makes the day even better. Cheers Alan
Oh what a great hike with the lad!!!
It looked a bit chilly out, but fantastic views 😀 looks like a challenging hike to the top
Thanks for sharing your adventure!! 🌲😀🌳 that mist made for interesting hike!
Trying to catch up on a few i seem to have missed.
Real sorry it has taken me a year to reply Dee but I have just seen this today. I hope you are well and keeping healthy over there, take care, cheers Alan
Great video, Alan. Good to see you and the youngen out together for some family bonding in the great outdoors. Bit cold for a swim, I reckon. Won't be long and the sun will be back. Bit of snow first would be nice though. All the best Alan and thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much for watching and not a cat in hells chance of a swim on that day, it was Baltic lol. Cheers Alan
Great video Alan, good to see you out with your Grandson. He did extremely well with that route. That certainly was a steep climb. Beautiful scenery and stunning photos to match. Thanks for sharing, atvb to you, Paula & Adrian👍😁
Thanks very much for watching guys and I was real chuffed with him, he did well on a tough climb, cheers Alan
Oh beautiful natural thank you ^.^
Thank you for watching my friend, very nice of you, cheers Alan
Stunning hike and great route! Great photos with you and your grandson, moments for you to remember! Thanks for sharing Alan 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching and your very kind words, despite the cloud and mist, we both had a great day, cheers Alan
Great lift for the grandson!
He really enjoyed himself, as did I. Better weather would have been a bonus but cannot have everything. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Great day out with Harry!! Showing the young 'uns how it's done Alan!! A lovely walk to start the year. Liking the 'safer path' ... More my cuppa tea, I think!! Pity the summit was a little misty... But well done!! 👍😀
First time I have done the safe path around Scales Tarn and it is a bit of a slog but 100% safer than going over Sharp Edge, which I would not have done with my grandson. Thanks for watching, cheers Alan
Shame you didn't have a clear day at the top but some lovely views as you were climbing and descending, thanks for sharing your trip mate
Take care
Roo
Thanks Roo, I appreciate you watching and yep, it's a shame we did not get some of your sun, we could have used it lol! Cheers Alan
Great video Alan! Harry did a great job on such a big hike. 3000 feet is no joke! Glad you know the best way up there - seems like it doesn't ease you into it - steep right from the start!
Thanks Josh, I really enjoyed the day out with Harry, despite not having the best of weather. Thanks very much for watching buddy, cheers Alan
Awesome hike, absolutely beautiful location! Memories that your grandson will always treasure throughout his life. Great video brother!
Special day indeed, just a shame the forcasted clear, sunny summit did not materialize. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, cheers Alan
Wow that first stage up from the pub - phew 😅 what a great way to start 2019 with your grandson 👍🏔 thanks for showing us the way - definitely on my list next time I visit the lakes. ATB Mark.
Thanks for watching Mark and the first bit is real steep, so that hosepipe is a lifesaver, as well as real good fun. Cheers Alan
Fantastic to see Harry Metalman, he did so well! Shame about the cloud at the top :(
Forcast said clear and sunny at the top, maybe I should have added another tip - do not trust the forcast lol. Thanks very much for watching guys, cheers Alan
great to do blencathra with your grandson alan some sensible tips there and shame about the cloud especially for harry on the summit cheers nigel
Thanks Nigel, I was gutted for him as on a clear day, the summit view is amazing. Thanks for watching Nigel, cheers Alan
This was great, I wish my grandson was keener, I will though have to try again with him... A lovely day out, your grandson looks a fine lad and what it is to have young legs... ;)
He legs were real tired for a couple of days afterwards but I would still swap them for mine anyday lol. Thanks very much for watching, always appreciate it, cheers Alan
Good safe walk and good directions . I'm planning to do the same walk in the spring this year so it was good to see this video.
I hope you get the same sort of day we got, it was a belter, cheers Alan
No it doesn't look the same on film. I gotta say Alan the start looked like a cruise from my sofa. It was an enjoyable watch. Your grandson looked chuffed with himself and why not indeed it's a canny mountain. Good memories and stories there - what do they say in Wales? Mist thick as fleece. Good going. Mark
Thanks Mark, we both really enjoyed it and both we're stiff the next day, I blame an overindulgence Christmas to be fair lol. Thanks for watching Mark, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN I could tell you did = it shone through. A pleasure to watch.
You take beautiful shots and film footage. Some of those pics would make excellent post cards! Love the flowing stream as well as the rolling fog kissing the earth! That's a handsome young man. What a nice hike! ATB, Joy Ford
It was a real fun day Joy, despite the weather. Mind you, we were both tired the next day, hard to say who was walking the funniest lol. Thanks so much for watching Joy, cheers Alan
you have a lot of courage, thanks for sharing.
I love getting out with my grandson, always a good day, no matter what the weather. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, cheers Alan
I really enjoy your adventure video Alan. The landscape is always amazing...
Thank you for watching and I always appreciate your comments, cheers Alan
Had the title not indicated otherwise I'd have said Son not Grandson - Great video Alan :)
Thanks very much for your kind words and despite the weather, we both had a great time. Appreciate your warching, cheers Alan
Awesome video, seems like you had a great time, take care
Thanks very much for watching, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Looked like you both had a great day, pity about the clouds & mist on the top. You will have to take your Grandson up again so he can see the views from the summit. Cheers. Eddie.
Thanks Eddie and I was pleased that the mist and cloud did not put him off, so I will be back out with him but on a better day. Thanks for watching and I hope you and Carol have a brilliant New Year, hopefully, see you soon, cheers Alan
Thanks Alan, Best Wishes to you and your family for 2019. Hope the year brings plenty of good hiking and hope to catch up with you soon. Cheers. Eddie.
Happy New Year to you and yours! More and more epic shots well done! Always good to see the pub from above. Young lad did great my son loves to hike but as he progresses into teenage years it's harder and harder to get him to hang with me. Keep up the good work my friend cheers Nathan
Oh, been through the same with my both my son's Nathan but they do change back, once they get out of them awful teenage years. Appreciate you watching buddy, cheers Alan
Great vid and thanks for the tips not done blencathra yet. Well done young man that’s a big hill.... well done to ya grandson too😜 really enjoyed it and great seeing youngsters having an adventure and making memories.
I was over the moon with him, as it was not the best of days and it is a bit of a slog in places. Blencathra on the right day, is defiantly worth doing. Appreciate you watching buddy, cheers Alan
That’s a great route up Alan, the hosepipe must be new, don’t remember it the last time I went up that way. Young Metalman did well, wish I had his energy Lol! Some excellent tips there also. Have a great weekend. Cheers Anthony 👍
I first saw it about 18 months ago Anthony but it is a massive help, up and down at that very steep start. Appreciate you watching buddy, cheers Alan
Another great video Alan and congratulations Harry! What a handsome lad and great job on the hike. Brilliant views, but a bummer about the fog at the top. I've been a bit quiet recently with everything going on in life and just got back from Germany and the UK. Only was able to do one hike in the Peak District (Dovedale Stepping Stones all the way to Thors Cave) but the flu caught up with both of us over the holidays. Looking forward to catching up with your channel and wish you, Mrs. Metalman and your family a happy and healthy 2019 and lots of great hikes! Cheers :)
Thanks so much for your good wishes and kind words but getting the flu sucks, I hope you are OK now. Never been to Thors Cave but seen a video before, so hopefully you will be posting something soon. Funny enough, I looked on your site this morning, as I though you had not posted for a while. I really enjoyed going out with Harry, just wish there was a view for him when we got to the top, as you can see right into Scotland from there on a clear day. Thank you so much for watching and a very Happy 2019 to you too, cheers Alan
Fantastic Alan brilliant to get out and blow the cobwebs off especially sharing it with close family. Looks an awesome walk up although brutal at the beginning lol. Mind you I bet yous slept that night and certainly beats them being on Fortnight. Anyways thanks fir Sharing and all the best for 2019 mate. Take care Steve
Thanks a lot Steve and you are so right, we were both knackered the next two days, first hike for both of us, after a very indulgent Christmas lol. Cheers Alan
Well Alan your grandson took that in his stride...made it look easy 😆.Its always a nice walk up to Scales Tarn and the walk to the summit from there. A real shame about the mist on the top.Blencathra is one of those fells which doesnt have an easy warm up..it gets steep straight away..Good day out though.ATB Mark.
Thanks Mark and yeah it gets the blood pumping right at the offset lol. Thanks very much for watching buddy, cheers Alan
Brings back memories of me walking in the mountains with my grandad, great memories and why I love the outdoors so much, beautiful scenery and walk, always guaranteed amazing scenery in your videos and awesome walks, don't blame you for not going for a dip this time , looked a great day, all the best 👍
Thanks Gaz, despite the weather we both really enjoyed it but defo no swimming this time around lol! Thanks for watching, cheers Alan
Beautiful area buddy looks class man
It's one of my favourites and just over an hour from home, so not too far to travel. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Will definitely try that route next time I climb Blencathra, not done Sharp edge yet but on my list. Well done Harry, nice achievement. ATB
I was real pleased with him Jim, as it was not the best of days and we could not see a thing at the summit but he still enjoyed himself. Thanks for watching Jim, cheers Alan
Nice way up alan still a good slog up like good on the young metalman too i migjt have a wonder up this way with the bike cheers for this one mate
The forecast said full sun on the summit, when we got there you could not see your hand in front of you. My grandson did a good job that day as it was cold and funny enough he has not been back out with me since lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Nice one!
Thanks for watching Paul, I think this was my last video before I got my GoPro Hero 7 Black, not that it would have mattered much in those conditions mind, you could not see your hand in front of your face at the top lol! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Excellent job! It would take me two days getting up that. The two of you and others I have watched climb this make it look easy. Actually I think going down would be worse for me.
Thanks for watching and to be honest Max, I always feel it more coming down, although the hoespipe made it a lot easier. Cheers Alan
Hey Al.... great climb... what a beautiful place...wish I could lose weight and get up the hills...the views are stunning...well done both...atb Lee
Thanks Lee and losing weight is tough mate, I want to lose over a stone, so been going to the gym 4 times a week for the last 4 months and always swim afterwards. I now weigh 5 lbs more than I did before I started 😠. Aw well, thanks very much for watching buddy, cheers Alan
Alan, we made it back to the Lake District and tomorrow we are going to do this hike following your safe route! Will let you know how we get on! Regards, Ashley
Oh nice one, I hope the good weather holds for you, cheers Alan
Alan METALMAN - Hiking & Outdoors We did it! Up the hose pipe and up to Scales Tarn and to the top for more marvellous views. A bit windy at the top but another glorious day. Didn't come down your route though, walked over the top and came down the other side of the river Glendermackin avoiding the hose pipe. A cracking good walk!
Great stuff, I love Sharp Edge but found Foul Crag more scary because of how steep it was.
I think a lot of people get a shock when they get over Sharp Edge, as they think 'phewee, it's over' but they still got the climb up, which looks nothing, untill you are at the base of it lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Welldone. Happy new year. Ive had internet bother.cstching up..
Cheers and Happy New Year to you Shaun, hope to see you out in the hills in 2019 buddy, cheers Alan
Great vid on my way up tomorrow morning
Have fun and I hope you have a clear view too, as it is superb. Shame we could not see a thing, especially for my grandson as it was his first climb up there and it was freezing. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, very good of you and very much appreciate. Have a great day tomorrow, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN not a problem it was a great vid 👍
Nice job teaching the next generation, as always I really like your family approach to enjoying the outdoors. Thanks for sharing more gorgeous views. I am curious, how many daylight hours do you get there anouts this time of year?
We got there at first light, which was 08.00 and it was dark at 16.00. We were forcasted a clear sunny day, still waiting of that to happen lol. Thank you so much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, this is a nice and pretty cold tour. But you can do it as you are made of metal. I like this wide and spartan area. Stay healthy! Many Greetings, Hermann
PS: No snow yet? We are having so much snow in Bavaria that we cannot cope with it anymore.
We normally have a lot of snow by now but nothing major this year yet. It will come eventually but I am happy to wait as long as possible lol. Thanks for watching, cheers Alan
Another great vid Alan, shame about the views, young in did well. Keep it up 👍
Thanks for watching and your very kind words, it was a real good day out with him, shame about the clouds and mist but you cannot have everything. Cheers Alan
what a climbing with this little boy !!. anyways looking for more videos. your new sub and friend, lets stay connected.
Thank you very much for watching and I always enjoy climbing with my son/grandson. Cheers Alan
Tough climb Alan, the boy did good........a real shame about the views on top(maybe better luck next time)...ATB,Stu.
Yeah it was a shame Stu but pleased that he still enjoyed the day and up for coming out again. Appreciate you watching buddy, cheers Alan
Great stuff Alan and well done Harry, aka METALMAN junior. Did he tell you off for the fist pump? Free parking in the Lakes? That's hard to come by. Blencathra very much on my radar on the next visit.
Cheers
Robin
Nothing I like better that a free park Robin lol and Blencathera (on a clear day) is brilliant, one of my favorites. In good conditions, Sharp Edge is brilliant as well, just a bit much for Harry at his age yet. Thanks for watching Robin, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN yeah Sharp Edge would be my choice route in the right conditions. Has he got a genuine interest in the outdoors? Always good to get kids away from phones, games consoles etc.
@@WalkWithWallace- He has been out with me three times climbing in the Lakes and always enjoyed it, so hopefully more to come from him. Like I say, Sharp Edge is really exhilarating just pick the conditions. Look for ward to seeing your video of it Robin, oh and maybe a wee dip in Scales Tarn afterwards!
@@AlanMETALMAN good stuff Alan. I'll only go in for a dip if I get conditions like you did. Says me that was in the North Sea the other week. 😄
@@WalkWithWallace- Bloody hell, I would not go in there in mid summer, it's always bloody freezing lol!
Hi,I’m doing this route in 2 weeks,is there another way to join the same path without using the hosepipe of doom ? 😂Thx Rich
Yes, as soon as you climb over the stile, just before the hosepipe, there is a path to the right, which will take you up. The hosepipe is just a more direct route up and a bit faster. Good luck and thank you very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN thx for the heads up,the Mrs wouldn’t be too pleased if she had to deal with that within 5mins of getting he boots on,divorce proceedings avoided 😂
@@decker1130 - defo do not want that 😁
Al...... Have you heard anything from Mike? I've noticed all his videos have been removed? I've emailed him to check he's okay.
I agree all his videos have been taken down, I wounder why, hope he is ok lovely man and great content. Mcm if you hear anything please let me know. Thanks Mike.
Sorry Chris, just seen this now but funny, I was just thinking the same, until he commented on this video. Still, I think I may drop him a mail as well, normally would have posted something by now.
