Ahhh you legend, was looking for a way of fitting a fan on a 3rd floor bathroom without going outside. Never heard of those fans like yourself. Great videos, really helpful for a sparky in training, cheers 👍.
Another great vid. Plenty of comments on here which shows it is all worthwhile. Brave to show the electrical industry as it really is in London with lots of problems lurking and solutions having to be found to suit customers modern lives
That type of xpelair fan does have a switch on it by the circuit board to select time delay on/off, they have a faster speed when the pull cord on the fan is operated as well, 2 speeds
16:16, is there a neutral left out on purpose? Might be truck of the camera but looks out which may have a logical explanation but should it not be made a bit more safe ?
Would of been easier/safer to sort a temporary socket if you're concerned about the fridge 👀 state of that DB and the tails 👀 and you can't just cut out a CPC its not just there for the equipment on the end its there to protect the cable in the wall etc
Even though the fan doesnt require an earth you should still connect the earth at the mains end to protect anybody that may by accident cut into that cable and the cpc within that cable could save that person getting an electric shock?
The fan supply cable earth/neutral fault was previously detected by the rcd facility within the new rcbo, therefore the disconnecting the earth cpc at the supply end (already earthed switch box) eliminates the fault previously detected by the rcbo. The cut off earth conductor within the grey sheathed cable will still be still 'shorted' to neutral - disconected but insulated, thus a neutral by 'fortuitous' contact.
Hi delroy love your vids..your old school like me. The only two things I'm pulling on this job. 1 no SPD put on your new 18th board and 2 that cable running to the fan needs to be earthed regardless of the fan not having one as cable still needs the CPC connected for protection. I personally would have used a 12v fan and put a transformer outside somewhere where it's switched on. Then least that cable to the fan would have only been 12 v. Cheers Steve
There's no requirement for an SPD - it's only a recommendation. In many circumstances, there is no need anyway depending on the supply type, characteristics and transformer location.
@@sdgelectronics true.. not sure what the supply type was without watching the video again. But for the price of SPD now days it's worth just putting one in.
@@eastwayelectrical I was saying cutting the earth out is not the solution ok the circuit is rcd protected but that cable buried in the wall has no earth
@@jamesdyas542 I agree mate somebody else came up with a good suggestion and that was fitting a humidstat fan and using the switch wire for a earth cable that was a very good idea
dean m I’d say the cables damaged and it needs repairing or preferably replacing. I’d just disconnect it at the switch and tell the customer that. Probably a nail in it and you could insulation and continuity test it but will it be the same in 6 months time? No way that can be guaranteed.
You can cut the seal and temporarily remove the top hub of those smart meters. It'll reconnect when you put it back. Just an easy way to get more space if you really need it.
Isn't removing anti tamper seals on meters illegal? I mean I don't know in the UK but in my country clearly is, since the seals are used by the electric company to certify that the user has not tapered with the meter, for example to make it measure less energy and thus steal electricity. I also think that new smart meters have anti tamper technologies that send an alarm to the electric company if you try to tamper with them.
@@user-yw6qb9tt7t can you go into detail as to how this installation is acceptable please? Or how cutting the earth out of a cable complies to bs7671? Thanks
Interesting fault I think I would come up to the same conclusion although I'm just a commenter on CZcams. I might make a note of it at the fan and in the Box bad ground or something.
How many times do you call a consumer unit a consumer unit to a client and they haven't the foggiest what you're talking about, over the years he's probably just called it a fuse board so his clients understand and its just stuck. What's the problem??

Great videos thanks very much..
Delroy, I always enjoy CZcams videos 🍻
Good vid! I've seen a vent similar to that one but the rubber seal fits flush to the outside wall
That type of xpelair fan does have a switch on it by the circuit board to select time delay on/off, they have a faster speed when the pull cord on the fan is operated as well, 2 speeds
Good job and video
Enjoyed that and learned about that outside vent, I’ve never seen one before good stuff 👍
That fan is a 4 speed with a pull cord & humidistat, which would be why it doesn’t always come on straight away, like you said in the last vid.
I was going to suggest a push through duct anyway, glad you sorted it

Neat job mate but how is the meter installed going to remove the neautal cover on the cut out
6:02 tails single insulated what are they from ? Maybe SWA offcuts ? It looks like they only 16mm but main fuse is 100A so the tails should be 25mm.

Bonjour Del ...should'nt the flange on the tube outside be up against the wall and glued water tight.... maybe I didn't see it well
What protection has the fan cable got now the earth has been cut out in the event of a fault? None. LV fan would of been better.
Was level extra? Or is it just bad camera work?
cutting the earth out now means the cable buried in the wall is not earthed definately not the right solution del
