Very wonderful quick review, Spenser. I'm so happy to see more people trying out ZCAM. About a year ago, I took a chance and purchased the ZCAM E2 just to do a review (like you). I assumed I would just return it and be done with it. However, I fell head over heals in love with it. Fast forward a year later, our team now owns an F6, and S6, an E2, and we are now looking at getting the new M4 and even the E2C (for live streaming). I can't wait to see what you create! Hey, how does the s6 perform if you compare it to the f6 or the e2? I cannot find any Reviews of the s6. It would be awesome, If you could so a Video about the s6.

That's already the case depending on the camera you use, but I have it available on my fuji xt3

Nicolas Ka I’m pretty sure the Xt3 doesn’t support RAW output. You only get 10 bit out.

This was my problem exactly! I ended up going with the S6. 🤷🏽♂️ still not sure how I chose!
Stick with black magic
I obsessed over this for months. I ended up with the Pocket. The implementation of the BMRaw with Resolve is amazing, but I am in the infrastructure of Davinci. Spencer has made this harder but I'm still glad I went with the Pocket although I love almost everything about the ZCam (except Zraw... awful, noisy and useless)!
It's nice that we have options at the 'affordable' cinema production level. I try my best to stick with one company for my camera gear. As my Sony cameras are retired I've been replacing them with Blackmagic cameras. They're still the best fit for my editing workflow, and their next camera should be an updated Micro Cinema Camera that should fill a lot of the missing pieces for multi camera productions.
I've been waiting for an updated bmmcc for years. I even shot a feature on it... great lil camera!
Just ordered my F6 the other day after my positive experience with the E2. Glad to hear you're enjoying it in your first look.
What’s the difference between the two, disregarding the sensor size which can mostly be mitigated with a speed booster?
@@BillRey the F6 has more Dynamic Range, better light sensitivity, better highlight roll-off, bigger pixels, and just overall a cleaner looking image imo.
A Speedbooster only makes up some of the attributes of a larger sensor. Although the FOV will end up being more similar, a Speedbooster won't give a "full frame look". It also reduces the performance of your lenses, especially wide open because of the added optics.

YES!! I just got this camera and shot a wedding with it yesterday!!! It is absolutely Gorgeous!! I shoot on RED normally and this is right freakin up there. Some things I like alot better. Legit a MINI RED for a fraction of the price! I cant wait till ZRaw is more useable natively.
Do you use a follow focus when shooting fully manual at a wedding?

The content is always great but is there really any point going to all the effort to compare cameras or even guess at what the picture looks like if its going through CZcams compression. If you could make the footage available as a download it would be so greatly appreciated. For sure its not so important with your lighting takes but I never really understand picture critical comparisons without the hires clips being available. I understand that ultimately this is not an in depth review and maybe that's fine as at the end of the day your opinion may serve as enough.

Great video! What are your thoughts compared to the S1H? I am curious on how user friendly the operation on the camera is. It seems like those few buttons would make adjusting settings feel clunky
It’s actually the same chip as the S1H I’m part of the Z Cam user group on facebook. Z cam built this puppy out though to do more than the S1H.

The form factor of the BMPCC4K is honestly the one thing I hate. I have really come to love these boxy form factors.
Funny thing you say this but blackmagic did make a camera like this 3 years ago. The Same Exact Form Factor. It was called blackmagic design micro. They didn't want to kill other cameras so they didn't add somethings and saved them for the bmpcc 4k and 6k.

The F6 has a wider field of view, 1+ stop of DR, better Low Light and Noise, more FPS so if that all sounds good to you go for it!!!

I prefer the skin colors, texture and roll off on the URSA on that side by side. The ZCam while okay seemed more washed out . Could be from the different lenses, but it's hard to say for sure.
As always nice looking video. I'm going to use the F6 later this year for a very low budget horror feature (UK). The production offered 2 cameras F6 or Ursa mini pro G2. I'm leaning to the F6 because of its compact size that can go on a Zhiyun crane, or hand held, very easily, sony npf friendly (I have lots) so shooting into the late of night won't be an issue. I will deffinatly watch your other F6 vids....NOW
Love the look ypu was able to pull with this. Seems like pretty nice camera.
I can’t link it here but there is a guy on a sigma fp group that found a dynamic range hack. He found that you get up to 3 extra stops. I don’t know color correction but it looks legit. It’s some magic and I don’t know the down sides other than you get that latitude in post and not in cam. But I’ve seen it and it works.

I would really like a video on an in depth look at the color science if the z cam. It’s the only thing that would make me hesitant to get it. I love the form factor. It’s much better than the bmpcc

wouldn't the bmpcc 6k have been a better comparison considering image quality, native iso, and size?
The ursa has 15 stops DR plus it’s sensor is larger than that of the pocket 6k. It’s over all image is more robust than the pocket 6k. The 6k just has higher resolution.

This makes sci-fi shorts look fun.
A common problem with the ZCam seems to be color and depth. There's something a bit "flat" about how the highlights roll off and the color depth too. Might just be something you can correct in post when pushing the grade more. If you look at 5:14, the Ursa seems more three dimensional if you get me. Still a promising camera and system so I'm sure they'll go much further with their future cameras. For me, I'll stick to the Ursa for my work.
I mainly want to swap because the current price drop is awesome and the fact I can natively slap on my Canon lenses and not worry about that lame halo effect metabones does with their speedboosters. Selling the pocket4k is getting harder everyday lol
6K full frame sensor RAW (even if not supported YET by resolve) under $4K... Imagine the market in the next 5 years when BM and Zcam will start challenging each other for best low cost cinema cam's. I'd be shitting my pants right now if i was Red or Arri...or Phantom with the promising Chronos 2.1. What a time to be alive !

The blacks in the ZCAM appear to be more accurate. 5:19. Quick question. Does the ZCAM have a built in IRND filter?
The IR Pollution on the URSA is terrible in the side by side. Your shirt is actually black on the Z Cam.

Ive had a z cam for about 8 months. Its great for the price but i think Kinslow is still working some kinks in the cheaper models. Ive heard the f6 is solid. I thought I'd like the form factor but i honestly dont. just my opinion, great review

Hmm. I still think the Sigma FP is the best value for money right now. The new firmware is almost ready too. The problems with footage workflow mentioned here just seem like a pain in the butt - unless it can be improved with firmware going forward.

very nice video. how do you like the mount with the FD lenses? there are custom mounts by zcam that can slide in ND filters but they are only for EF lenses :( if only they made that using a mirrorless mount so you still have all the options... it would actually be my dream cam. (or i would have to convert my FD glass to EF)

Anyone knows exaclty why even with a great camera like maybe s1h or bmpcc you cant get that cinematic creamy motion like Arris camera for example? because you can match pretty much color sciece, but still you have a videoish motion in thats cameras. i need a scientific answer please
Using cfexpress card, it is estimated to be able to shoot 6K100FPS.
I don't think we've seen that good an image come from that small a camera before. I wonder if it'll see use on high-end productions as an action cam, like how they used the Canon 5DII on Iron Man 2.

I was wondering the same, but actually yes. Even if you wanted to shoot in s35 the F6 is the better camera. Larger photosites, more dynamic range, higher framerates, and the option to shoot larger formats.
They defiantly make some great cams. Look closely at the image there can be artifacts in different modes and I’m not quite sure why...

Both the sample footage and your talking video was exposed/graded way too low IMHO. I know it's a trend these days to grade low, but it's not a good look.
Would love to see log/downloadable files. Extended video lut is garbage.
It probably looked different on his monitor, before CZcams. Common problem!

Not a good look according to who? His color grade is part of his look/art! There are no rules lol let’s see your color grade!
@@DollyRanch This. It's a given that you need to overexpose Z-Log footage. For my E2C, sometimes as much as two stops. Never worry about overexposing cause the ceiling is higher than you'd expect.
