Valter Portugal can you explain please what you mean when you say that they had terrible live performances? Are you talking about the stage appearance? Because the vocals sounded great. For example Israel had a huge problem with the vocals on stage but I can't say the same for Greece.
Gotta say, this year is the Fall of the Titans--Azerbaijan, Romania, and Russia are out for the very first time, Greece and Armenia are other heavy players out on their second non-qualification. Belgium and Poland's comeback momentum has been stalled. The Underdogs have really risen this year--Albania, Ireland, Lithuania, Slovenia, Finland, Estonia.

Patrick Fielding the vocals were good but song was average.
I liked the song, but the performance was very strangely staged. They should have skipped the silly box of screens, the weirdly dressed dancer inside it, and instead have dancers on stage, to help energize certain sections of the song, where more visual energy and vitality was required. Alone she remained too static, and the dress she was wearing - and how she had arranged her hair - didn`t help bring life to that entry either. Compared to the energy the dancers and choreography brought to the entry from Cyprus, the atmosphere and story telling aspect the decor, lighting, camera angles, costumes and dancers and choreography gave the Irish entry, the precision and story telling aspect of the Moldovan entry, how well the set, costumes and choreography elevated the Swedish entry, Malta`s entry came across as quite a mess in comparison. It was neither arty enough to be a piece of art in it`s own right, and too boring and complicated to appeal to the general viewer.
Tvjunkieful12 this was a song about mental as the singer was a victim herself so she wanted it to feel more realistic the music video for the song is also in this style
Joel Chircop Maybe she felt that way. But the thing is, it is not her intentions which are important, but how the whole number comes across to the viewers. When they have 18 songs to choose from, and have to pay for every single vote, they are likely to vote for either one or a few songs. Therefore entries have to be as perfect as is possible. Everything from staying in tune, to costumes, lighting, camera angles and a stage appearance which both appeals to the audience and matches the song has to be in place. Malta`s entry, in my opinion, didn`t succeed in regard to the latter. I also think a fast paced and up beat song like this does not fit lyrics about mental problems very well. I think Animals, since it was repeated so often, also would have been a better title, since that could have triggered viewers` minds to hearing the refrain when reading the title.
As a more straight forward, fast paced and up beat, pop song, I think this entry could have worked, had it had a little more help on stage to connect to viewers. But that is my personal opinion - we will never know for sure.
Malta's song "was average?" Are you kidding me? Malta had a more than average song with great meaning. Average is Denmark, Sweden, and Especially Norway. Sweden is repetitive of last year, and Norway was horrible. Remove one of those and replace it with Malta.

Faruxy Furue because their broadcaster is a part of the EBU for more than 30 years, and that means that they've broadcasted the Eurovision Song Contest for a long time! That's why they decided to add Australia as a participant!
