We work as a team on every editđ
What the feck is Dinkum? Here is some Dinkum gameplay as sort of a review for new players/beginners to get an idea of what the new Dinkum game is like. It plays sort of like a Stardew Valley/Animal Crossing hybrid. Lets play!
#CallMeKevin #Dinkum #Gaming - Hry
Kevin, I, too, struggle with identifying animals too. You can distinguish an alligator from a crocodile by paying attention to whether the animal sees you later or in a while.
that is hilarious, this should have more likes
Don't forget alligators are also angry according to mama because "they have all them teeth, but no tooth brush to brush them with".
Ah a fellow scientist I see
Too too too too, to too too too many.
You can also tell if itâs a crocodile or not by making it cry big tears
Kevin lights himself on fire and has a polite conversation with an old lady. What a gentleman
Kevin! Kinda dark? Nice home
Pretty hot if you ask me đ„ quite literally
Yo đ„ czcams.com/video/rdJ9bsN7JAw/video.html
My favorite part is him running next to the water while on fire
You can tell Kevin is from a place where the most dangerous animal is a cow because he'll run straight towards a croc or a cassowary. I'm also from somewhere like that so I'd probably do the same
Cassowaries are not dangerous there has been only 2 deaths, magpies are more dangerous with 3 deaths
please never visit australia or florida then :D
Hilariously cows (and horses) kill more people in Aus than our native animals do
The cows came home!
To be fair, cows can kill you too
Ya know it's amazing that instead of running straight to the river everytime he caught on fire he just ran around in circles near the fire pit instead. Truly a Kevin thing to do
Dont you see he enjoys it? Hes making sure it last as long as posible (without ending in death).
As an Aussie this game makes me feel extremely patriotic. Can confirm that we spend most of our time on fire or being eaten by crocs, but I'm very disappointed by the lack of kangaroo riding and drop bear attacks.
Drop bears probably come in later on in game. We both know how much they love to analyze targets.
The grocery prices were also incredibly accurate. $4k for some mystery meat? Absolute bargain.
@@Lokaror Very true, they're probably just waiting for the right moment to strike
Do you ride the kangaroos before or after killing them with a lance? And does their meat goes well with shark meat? Or you dont eat those, you just sell them for inflacted prizes?
@@pedrovallefin8406 I think it matters how you're going to serve it, if you're roasting it over an open flame you might want to separate the 'roo from the shark because they'll be finished at different times, if you're grilling you could have both and make yourself a nice Surf'n'Turf

A dinkum sounds like a candy my grandmother would offer me when my parents weren't around. I've been pleasantly surprised
In case you're curious, I'm pretty sure it comes from the phrase 'fair dinkum' which is basically just fair enough
@@sheerechoes I think âfair dinkumâ is more similar to âfor realâ - meaning if something is true or real itâs âfair dinkumâ. Itâs not used that much though and itâs entirely possible it could differ by region.
@@Miss_Distress â @Sheer Echoes
Dinkum was originally from the white settlers, meaning 'work', so fair dinkum is 'fair day of work for fair pay'. It was also used in the goldfields. But essentially, it just means honest, or genuine :) so yeah you're both right lol it has a lot of different ways of being said
@@itskindofemily cool! Thanks for the info.

Seconded
As a proud Australian I give Dinkum a 9/10 for realism haha. While playing this game I was almost immediately drop kicked off a cliff by a cassowary only to be summarily executed by the crocodile waiting below. Appropriate amounts of flammability. Only loses a point due to a lack of magpies being eyeball extracting psychos. Their song in game is beautiful though and I regret not placing my camp closer to where they hang out.
I love this game way more than Animal Crossing, and I love that you can tell that it was made by an Australian and not just a parody rip off. There's genuine passion in this project and I hope people continue to support the creator.
From what I understand this is basically just Australian animal crossing đ
With a mix of Stardew Valley; Farming ( Idk if AC has it ) mines apparently, health and energy.
This game is the epitome of "Mom can we get Animal Crossing?"
"We have Animal Crossing at home."
It's actually a pretty solid game it's animal crossing for PC players pretty much
yeah i just learned abt this game but from the layout design, character design, fonts, and even the plane scene, feel like they should have changed more. it's copying animal crossing too hard, inspiration is one thing but imo this is too much
@@Kedamohno Exactly, like Stardew Valley is really similar to Harvest Moon but it does enough different to be its own thing, Dinkum looks like they straight up copied assets
@@NotOnLand Animal Crossing is boring though. It was fun when I was like 12 but this does plenty different to be it's own thing. Have you even actually played it? Plus it just came out and it's in Early Access and still has more actual content and things to do than Animal Crossing, sooo...
It looks significantly better than Animal Crossing...
The crushing debt is the most like Animal Crossing. Even more so than the aesthetics. The soul crushing feeling when Fletch is like, "That'll put the town in 200k debt!" and "You have to pay off the debt before you can build more!". Early game strategy is to get a metal detector asap once John moves in. Oh, and eating replenishes energy, health, and can give you buffs later on in the game... great for when you go into the mines and have to fight enemies.
Edit: It's tedious. To get the Mines, you gotta get level 20 mining, and have mining license rank 2, build the mine, and then buy a mine pass for 25,000 every time you want to go in. It's worth it when you're higher level... until then, it's a painful experience. lol
Wait. You have to get licensed to use the mine you built and pay for the privilege to use the mine you built? Hell is an amazingly appropriate name for this place.
God awful game
Bells are based on yen/cents so you have to divide all prices in the game by 100 to get the dollar amount.
@@jamesusespivot but what's the Dink to Bell exchange rate?
Enemies in the mines? Geez, the dev of this game really did just combine all aspects of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley

I love that Kevin's videos are getting longer and longer , I remember when they were just 8-12 minutes now we get blessed with 20 minutes of an Irish fellow just having a good time playing obscure games
I like how Kevin's town is between 2 rivers yet every time he catches on fire he runs around on land
i love the use of stardew music!! also that demented bird is a cassowary and it's bloody terrifying in real life
I'm not going crazy and Animal Crossing music WAS used in the first half!
Oh, is it not that Kevin added the music in himself? Cuz that's what I thought! We also have some Banjo-Kazooie / Banjo-Tooie music in there! :D
I was so proud to see it, then a kangaroo after the shark and croc and I was like oi, hang on, this is just Australia
@@alexandrialeonora6542 I heard pokemon also.
I felt personally called out when he said "I know a lot of you are just on your phones and listening to me in the background"
The concept of an Australian-themed Animal Crossing is a strange one. But it's good to see how Kevin would react if he were to come here!
He would get constantly on fire and tricked by an old lady to go in extreme debt?
@@pedrovallefin8406 He'd probably need to find the old lady but our sun will take care of the "on fire" part.

"I don't wanna be stuck here, in Hell" sounds like a game for Kevin and Jim Pickens

First the "papers please" soundtrack when you showed the place that looked like soviet Russia
And then the chill pokemon music!
Truly a musical genius.
Are you sure it was Pokemon? It sounded like Animal Crossing.
Yes, I heard some Animal Crossing music thrown in there, not sure from what version.
@@auqustfire Yes there's pokemon hoenn music, starts around 17:30 in. it's route 101 iirc
And Stardew Valley music too. A very good soundtrack indeed

That ostrich looking bird with the crest is called a Cassowary and yes they are very territorial and aggressive
I just look them up, theyre beatiful. Like a cross between a turkey and a nandu.
@@pedrovallefin8406 yeah! extremely violent though, they'll gladly rip your organs out and then go chill
The fecking email with AppNana, nice throwback Kevin!
Kevin may not know what a Cassowary is but accurately identifies that it is dangerous with demon eyes. The one in game, no matter how demonic, is still cuter than the real life birds.
We all really appreciate your videos, Kevin. As a present, we've gotten you a brand new store for you to manage! It'll be just like old times, retail hasn't changed a bit :) Just make sure to gather the raw materials, construct it by hand, and pay us 45,000 kevcoins to cover the deed. No need to thank us, you ARE welcome :D
What country is kevcoin the coin of? Did Kevin finally started his own country and nobody told me? Or did we (i include myself cause nobody else included me) started a country in his honor especifically just for Kevin to put his new retail store in?
@@pedrovallefin8406 There's no country per se. Do you know the charity "Doctors without Borders"? It's like that, except it's "Cultists without Borders", and instead of being a charity, it's an underground movement seeking to spread the word of Glashnok and teach the ways of Jim Pickens.
It's funded by Permanent Resident Painters located in basements throughout the world (which I guess makes it a literal "underground" movement). They may be poorly fed, live in harsh conditions, and not truly understand what life is like on the surface world, but they produce massive amounts of the kevcoin cryptocurrency by selling their paintings. The front of the coin has Kevin's face on it, and the back has the beautiful face of Grognak the Destroyer Attorney At Law Esquire M.D.
The shark didn't attack you, it was self defense. Some crazy person was running around screaming bug and hitting things. I would be afraid too đđ
The AppNana text was a really nice touch! I love little easter eggs like these.
As an australian, this pretty accurately represents the australian experience.
That said, lighting oneself on fire and finding the occasional ground-meat is much more likely in inner brisbane
Kevin: jumps in the shark-infested water apropos of nothing
Also Kevin: ignores the water entirely while running around on fire

For an indie game that might take inspiration from Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, it was well-worth the $20 my hubby spent on me.đ„°
Anyone who claims to have taken inspiration from Stardew Valley is presumably oblivious to it being a Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons rip-off.
@@SotiCoto fr lmao
@@SotiCoto I'm aware of Harvest Moon, but I never played it growing up. Also, I'm not comparing Dinkum to Stardew Valley in terms of "Oh this individual copied this game". No, inspiration can comes from anywhere including existing/popular IPS. Dinkum reminds me of Stardew Valley thanks to the use of in-game time, the health/energy meters, the dungeon crawler in the mineshaft, etc. Besides, the creator John Benton wanted to create his own simulator/adventure game based on his home country of Australia and I think it's very sweet and wholesome he used the land the foundation for an AC meets Stardew game.
@@SotiCoto That's a silly hot take. If they based it on Stardew Valley then they based it on Stardew Valley, not the games it is inspired by.
Though I suspect you may have a bit of a biased perspective, considering you chose the phrase "rip-off" to describe it rather than something not unreasonably harsh.
â@@nobledamask: Biased, sure. A perfectly reasonable bias though. I mean would you prefer I used the term "plagiarism"? Stardew Valley was just made to capitalise on the fact that the Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons games are relatively unpublicised outside of Japan. It is making a mint off someone else's idea, copied right down to the silly shit like the mine.

Stand sure Evava. Things will always change and with that they can always get better. I've had a pretty terrible year all round but through watching someone as nice/evil as Kevin he's helped me realise something, that even when things go completely wrong and seem to be a complete disaster that trying to just laugh about it is often the best thing to do. make it into something to laugh about and just get on with whatever else we have going on instead of making it bigger than it has to be and getting worked up about it. As an Aussie I can confirm this is Australia and hell is an accurate name
You should be afraid of that bird, Kevin.
Itâs called a cassowary and it is a 6ft tall Jurassic bird with extreme territorial issues. It was actually the one animal that Steve Irwin was actually afraid of.
"It's 15 minutes into the day, and I'm already fed up."
Kevin being extremely relatable, as always.
I love how Kevin did not once think to jump in the water when he was on fire.
I was very surprised when Alola Route 1 music started playing followed by Hoenn Route 101. Didn't expect two Pokemon songs, especially from two different gens back to back.
No context here, just started the video, but "Dinkum" is an Aussie word, never used alone, it goes with "fair" ie: "fair dinkum" meaning "genuinely". Fair dinkum true blue = genuinely Australian. Or you can use it as a question if someone says something you can reply "fair dinkum?".
So having watched the video now i see why it's just called dinkum. It's an Aussie themed rip off and there's nothing fair about it đ€Ł
That sounds made up, like all aussie words do. Therefore I believe you.
@@madeniquevanwyk Technically all words are made up
Itâs called dinkum bc itâs made by Aussies
Dinkum was originally used as a slang for work and fair dinkum was like honest work for honest pay, and this kind if work would have fit, not so sure about the monetary parts though lol
Theres nothing fair about animal crossing either, so its a prety exact rip-off. Maybe thats the genuine part? Like, its the one genuinely good rip-off?
"I don't know why it has to be a particular type of wood, style I guess"
Kevin you obviously don't know much about scythes
Kevin managing to light himself on fire on multiple times is both impressive and concerning.
You must be new here. LOL
"Managing"? Its obviously on purposse. The poor man has an adicction to being light on fire, as bad or worse that his other adictions (gambilng, crime, emigrating, politics, pissing himself, eating forniture, suffering). He has somehow managed to stay alive this time, but whats really concerning its that you just know hes gonna keep getting light on fire, in this game or in others.
6:00 Itâs a Cassowary and theyâre native to the tropical forests of New Guinea, Aru Islands, and northeastern Australia. Their attacks can be deadly if they want them to be.
You know it's gonna be a classic Kevin video when you're dying from laughter one minute in
Ay big thanks bro
Def inspired by animal crossing. John and Fletch are Dinkum's version of Tom Nook.
You would think separating him in two character would make them less hateable than he is, but theyre somehow worse. Like having two of him scamming you together.
12:50 ok Kevin you didn't need to just murder us there đ felt so called out as I was multitasking with this video in the background. This is actually the second time watching it, and I was too spaced out this morning watching it the first time so I completely missed this call-out đ

I've been playing this a lot recently, glad to see other youtubers picking it up.
I've been obsessed with this game lol
Is it worth the $20 price tag? It seems like it, but I've been spurned by indie games before. It looks like a lot of fun but so have a lot of games I've tried.
@@auqustfire I've played for 60 hours and there's still things I haven't done lol. Most definitely worth it
@@auqustfire Its basically Animal Crossing meets Stardew Valley. Its still in the early stages and the creator is taking in feedback for updates. I would say at this stage in the game its well worth it. It was also just updated like 3 days ago as well.
@@auqustfire I think it is but it's also totally valid to wait for a sale. You spend how much to go see a two hour movie in cinema? It's pretty fleshed out already, how much would you spend on animal crossing? I got 20 hours after only a week or so of release and I only stopped playing because I was waiting for a pause function to be implemented (and it has been). I fully expect this to be a game where I get 100 or so hours (or more who knows) so for me it's worth that pricetag.
Right now the creator is being very active with taking on feedback and updates are frequent. Obviously this isn't the same for all indie games, but as it is Dinkum is fairly solid and enjoyable as it is IF you enjoy this kind of gameplay. If you need an endgame, maybe not.
Flake is the word for shark meat. When you get fish and chips in Australia, if they don't name the fish (eg. Barramundi) then it's most likely flake.
I had to watch this solely for the fact the game is called Dinkum, as an Australian. I can't imagine Kevin travelling out of Europe without it being comparable to either Mr. Bean's Holiday, or The Terminal -- it'll be one extreme or the other.
