- Bilirubin is a key part of liver function tests (LFTs). Watch as medical laboratory scientist Dr. Kyle Riding shares insight about the role of bilirubin and what elevated levels can signal in laboratory tests.
I saw my doctor because I get pain on the right side of my abdomen. I took a blood test that indicated high bilirubin. I have to go for imaging next week to try and narrow down the cause. Crossing my fingers. I've been a moderate drinker for years, so maybe I'm paying for it now. I have trouble sleeping too, though that could be because I'm into intermittent fasting. Thanks for this video. It explains it a bit better. Pray for me all!

Can your Bilirubin be higher then normal when detoxing from opioids like Suboxone? I’ve had my labs done every 3 months it allow
At always normal! Well I’ve been detoxing for 7 days and went and had blood work done my level was 3.4 now and he said he was sending me to a gastrologist because it could be liver disease! But just weird this only happed the week I’ve been having withdrawals like mild fever , diarrhea from the opioid withdrawal…

I was told when I was around 18 that my Bilirubin was high due to Gilbert's syndrome, and that there were no health implications. I do have some other strange issues like very low HDL and very high triglycerides, which make me wonder about liver dysfunction

My total is at 1.0 and I heard more than 1.2 is a problem.. 15 years ago I had a gallbladder inflammation and an enlarged spleen that I never knew of until now, could it mean I still have that going on? 🤔 I realized it isn’t from the red blood cell issues since my CBC didn’t come back with anemia so it must be from the direct one

I’m 27 and I did a recent medical check due to a sudden severe acne breakout on my face and I have elevated indirect Bilirubin (22.10) and direct bilirubin (4.4)
Since 2011 when I can find some med records I've had elevated levels anywhere from 2-4 bilirubin it's been up and down and I'm just realizing it now they still don't say anything to me about it but I've noticed it has been elevated for years. Trying to figure out if it's bad. I'm 32 now. Perhaps if hemoglobin which is sugar and carbs causing it maybe eliminating most of it is a fix. I'm currently on high fat low carb diet non processed whole.

Great video, but I believe you're mistaken about the assumption that high indirect (pre-liver processed) billiurbin level means there is no problem with the liver. You'll also see this in Gilbert Syndrome.

My bilirubin is 2.6 and I’m scared any advise anyone I am 30 yrs old and waiting for a ultrasound but been a nervous wreck since I got the call
Do you have high ALT or AST?
@@andrewm6087 alt and ast are normal my ast is 16 and alt 18 it just under bilirubin it’s 2.6 last year it was 2.0 around aug but my dr never called me until this recent blood test from last week she said everything is normal except bilirubin
@@user-yu3ry4ye2mif direct bilirubin is high then it is a problem with the liver..
If indirect bilirubin is high then it means that your red blood cells are getting destroyed too fast than the liver can clear. It could be a sign of haemolytic anaemia or sickle cell disease
