and adolf was so lame during it too. He kept shooting people on the other side during it and ended the truce for his specific group. It’s always got to be that one fucking guy who ruins everything.
@@deucesommerfeld1248 The Christmas Truce was amazing, but I also have a soft spot for that time when a meteorite struck the battlefield right between the Roman and Pontic armies during the third Mithridatic war. The two armies were about to fight and there was a massive explosion between the two of them when the meteorite struck. Both armies just turned around and left. The gods clearly didn't want them to fight!

I can absolutely confirm that I was only doing it because my wife came to Afghanistan and caught me hanging out with the “enemy” drinking beers.
Yes, it is worth hundreds of thousands of lives to avoid getting in trouble with the wife.

Funny story. My great great uncle, a German army captain was caputred by the Americans in France during the Battle of the Bulge. He expected to be given bad treatment as he was a captain in the 5th panzer division. He and a couple of Fallschirmjager, and a few infantrymen surrendered to Americans, as the rest retreated. They gave them beers and talked to them about family back home. Realizing almost everyone they captured could speak English, they shared stories before being processed and put into prisoner camps. They learned songs from the Americans and they also taught the Americans some songs like auf kreta bei sturm und bei regen, and panzerlied. They then had a group prayer about the safety of their family and fellow soldiers before being sent in a half track to be processed. He said he then realized that these weren't bad men, but just men caught in a crossfire of war. He first began officer-training mainly to(not making this up) to get a better chance with girls. He wasn't bad looking or anything, but he wanted to impress a specific girl into dating him, since officers had a better chance with girls. BUT, she married a common corporal, which pissed him off, but didn't piss him off enough to quit officer school. He genuinely thought what Germany was doing was right, and that it was his duty to reunite the German people into one brotherhood. It was only after the war he learned about the fates of his Jewish neighbors who disappeared when he came back for leave.

I wasn't a combat vet, but knowing their sense of humor, most would likely get a few chuckles out of this. Depends on what exactly they'd seen and how well their minds coped with what they'd seen, though, that varies from person to person.
I had some chuckles then it went for another 4 minutes
