    Having just retired, I broke out my old X-wing game to pass some time during recent bad weather but had forgotten much of the gameplay. Thanks for this great, comprehensive video - now up to speed and playing solo for the time being, until I find someone local to have some games with. 5 year old video but still a great resource - thanks again.

    This was crazy helpful. Tried to play with a buddy who had never played (I hadnt either), and we were so confused. But THIS is exactly what i needed for us to play by the rules and not by "House Rules"

    Excellent tutorial. Clear, concise and informative, just how the manufacturers should produce their ' how to play's videos. One minor observation/clarification: @ 22:50ish your explanation of how a defender may 'spend' an evade token, does not enable a 're-roll' but may be used to cancel one hit from the attacker. See page 8 of Rules of Play, Evade section, second paragraph. Thanks again for this very professional production.

    @Knightmare_69 Před 6 lety

    Great job. A bunch of friends and I just started on X-Wing and I like you tutorials very much.
    I'd like to add some clarifications, because those things get confused quite often. You addressed those points in the video, too, although without the clarification, so I'll just throw that in ;)
    Focus token: it changes ALL focus results to hits or evades (not one; that was irrelevant in your tutorial, because the TIE only rolled one focus result)
    Evade token: it adds one evade RESULT to one defense-roll (not an evade dice), as correctly explained in the mission I example.
    Determination: it nullifies ALL damage cards with the pilot trait. It is not discarded after removing one effect, that's why it is so expensive.
    Whoever rated this video "down"???

    Hey Ben. Fantastic tutorial. Most comprehensive out there. Do you plan to make an updated one of XWing 2.0 coming out in September? Some rules will certainly differ but a good part of this video will still be reusable. Looking forward to that update. Be well, thanks again and take care.

    Once again , excellent job sir. you are by far one of the best (how to play) reviewers on youtube. would you be able to do a "how to play" for MB SHOGUN or Conquest of the Empire ? thanks for all the hard work

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  Před 7 lety +1

      The short answer is absolutely! Shogun aka Samurai Swords aka Ikusa is on deck and currently in development. I'm probably about 25% done with this one. I own Conquest of the Empire, the MB Gamemaster version and also a copy of the re-release by Eagle games. Same story for Fortress America. My goal is to finish the Game master series by the end of this year.
      The next tutorial looks like it will be Axis & Allies: Guadalcanal to finish off the A&A campaign series. I always have 4 or 5 tutorials in various states of completion. I flip between them to keep from getting burned out on one game. This is also good if I get stuck on how to teach an element of one game, I can switch to another game and stay productive while I mull over how to fix the one I'm stuck on.

    Good stuff! I don't know if you ever used TTS but i made a little Heroes of Normandie mod with the PnP Demo version and i put your video on the table for whoever opens the mod, so expect some views there, great rules explanation. Aside from that you are the first who showed me any sense in the heavier chits wargames that i only heard old grognards jerk off without giving you a clue how it works *cough cough the chief cough*, so thanks for that mate, specially Conflict of Heroes which i found to be the best introductory chits wargame so far for a complete solo noob like me. Cheers!
    Edit: TTS = Tabletop Simulator

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  Před 7 lety +1

      I've used Table Top Simulator a bit. It's really cool, If I just had more time in my day to play more games. Good luck with your mod. Appreciate the link! The Chief and his crew are good guys, they're videos just aren't always intended for beginners. I enjoy listening to them, but I can understand why people get frustrated when they're interested in a game and just want to know how to play. Appreciate the kind feedback on COH. I need to get back to this series and finish my Guadalcanal tutorial!

    • @kylewhite2985
      @kylewhite2985 Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the response, yeah I really sounded like i was dissing them but i like the guys at Dice Tower and The Chief and crew you worded it better, they talk from wargamer to wargamer, well with time i'm sure i'll be able to appreciate their content more and more knowing the references and games like i do now with Tom and Dice Tower on Board Games in general. And i sure understand that TTS has a niche, for me especially it allows me to play games that are totally inaccessible in my country and that if i had hard copies of them it sure would be different. Anyway, keep up the good work!

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  Před 7 lety +1

      No worries, Kyle. I totally get it. Digital gaming, whether it's TTS or other software, is great because you can link up with folks all over the world like they're next door. I wouldn't have it any other way.

    Who goes first if both pilot skills are the same?

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  Před 6 lety

      From the SW Miniatures Wiki:
      One player always has INITIATIVE, a distinction used to resolve timing conflicts. During setup, the player with lowest squad point total chooses who has initiative. If both players have the same squad total, one player rolls one red die. On a hit or critical result, the player who rolled the die chooses who has initiative. On a focus or blank result, his opponent chooses who has initiative. The player with initiative places the initiative token next to his cards.
      During the Activation phase, if both players have ships with the same pilot skill, all of those ships belonging to the player with initiative activate first.
      During the Combat phase, if both players have ships with the same pilot skill, all of those ships belonging to the player with initiative resolves the phase first.
      If both players have effects that resolve at the same time, the player with initiative resolves all of his effects first.
