Contra: Operation Galuga is the most Contra game I've played in years. It delivers that run-and-gun arcade challenge that's been missing from gaming and doesn't try to over-deliver or be something it's not. Great stage design and action remain at the forefront of each level, which just means a fun time for all who play. Sure, something could be said about the story or missing options, but playing Contra: Operation Galuga felt like hanging out with an old friend that I hadn't seen in a while. It was more familiar than new, but that's the best thing that has happened to this series in years.

The difference between Laser, and regular Machine gun is the Laser ricochets to the nearest enemy. Really good for a lot of enemies. Oh and of course the overloads all are completely different

Contra is Metal Slug daddy. Contra is what inspired Metal Slug. Not an hater of MS because my favorite are MS, MSX, MS3 and MS6

You can barley get hamburger for $30 these days. I'd say it's worth it.

X men is back, contra is back to their roots. 90s kids are eating good lately.
Had a lot of fun with the demo, replayed it a few times just for fun. I liked Blazing Chrome and Valfaris, but nice to have a proper Contra back.
Blazing Chrome was alright. I just wish the pick-ups in that game weren’t random.
Got my physical copy today. I had a blast already. It could look a bit more detailed here and there, but otherwise there's a good overview about the level and the bullets. This game totally nails it, true to its Nintendo roots and offers new mechanics.
The content is also nice, I love it. ❤
Can’t wait to play the full game. I loved playing the demo. I grew up in the 80s playing the original Contra games

I love Way Forward's Shantae series and by the looks of this review, I'm quite keen on other brands trusting Way Forward with popular side scrolling franchises. They deliver what gamers want.

Think I'll pick this up. This reminds me almost exactly of the hidden gem Hard Corps on the PS3. I don't even think you can get it anymore on the Playstation Store sadly :(.
I play the 360 version on the Series S and it completely reduces the load times. Still goes on sale too. Highly recommend
I tried the demo and loved it in single player. However, in multiplayer, it's pretty hard to see the enemies' bullets compared to yours and your friends.
Still a really fun game though. I might get the full version. :)
For me Shattered Soldier was the last great Contra. And the Graphics were better than this.

I didn’t like shattered soldier compared to this. I literally can’t put this down. Not many video games do that to me these days. I’ve beaten Galuga like 24 times already lol. Shattered Soldier didn’t feel like Contra to me as much as the NES/Genesis/SNES games did. This one feels like straight up contra 5 to me, even if it’s basically just a retelling of contra 1. Phenomenal game with crazy replay value

Blazing Chrome is Contra
Blazing Chrome is Contra Hard Corps, which is that one unorthodox Contra title from the Sega Genesis. I'm glad Galuga kept truer to the Nintendo entries. Feels more genuine and balanced.
I liked that game a lot. Konami should hire them to make a contra.

Retro sequels/remakes always have that problem--how much should be changed before the game is too different from what made it a classic originally? The developers here chose the side of caution, and I'm okay with that.
I tried it on switch and hated it, then found it was locked at 30 fps. Tried on PC at 60 and felt better, but not good enough. Had a very mobile game feel to the design and didnt feel very hard. I would have rather had the ps3 hardcorps rising ported. That was freaking awesome and still locked on a dead system :(

Is this one of those games that is harder playing solo or do they increase enemies/bullets when more than one person plays? Because I found the demo kinda hard by myself. But would probably be easy if nothing is changed when playing 2,3, or 4 players.
Got this for Switch. Even on a platform as weak aa Switch, this game is incredible.
Also the greatest Contra to ever bless a system is on the O.G. NES/ CONTRA 1 😎🎮💯🔥🔥 it's also one of theee best video games on the planet.
Prefer Super C on Nes, easily as good as the arcade version.

This game nothing feels like a contra after an half an hour....atleast they used same type of enemies and obstacles from retro...😂😢
Better play Blazing Chrome if you want a "Contra experience"( a much better and also cheaper option)

@@painkiller47pkit's a little overpriced. But you can make that money in about 2 hours. The economy is not that bad. This is like buying a full tank of gas, or a nice meal. What exactly would you spend it on instead? A couple packs of smokes?
The way you pronounced Galuga changed a bit in the video. I was listening in the background initially, and i thought it was related to Galaga - the old space invadery game. Looks like maybe it should be gah-LOO-guh? Rather than goo-LAH-guh. Or maybe they really are making a reference to Galaga, just spelled differently?

The amount of lives you can earn past 100 is crazy and awesome really bad part though they reset all of the lives that you got but not from dying you save my game but this does nothing at all for lives you earn overtime.

This game's performance is as crazy as it's choices that we're made just two perks in game does not help movement in laying down and jumping loosing weapon 2 through one life bar being taken extra people and music only through arcade not good direction.
Any word on the Ps4 and switch version being fixed? Those versions had noticeable lag and 30 fps.
They'll probably patch it with time. I've got the PS5 version pre-ordered from LRG and will probably pick up the Switch version as well as nothing beats portability.

You can get through a deathless run…maybe 2 hours? But the stages are pretty long.

Nope... runs at an unstable 30fps! Pretty F'in pathetic. I'm waiting until I can buy one of the handheld PC's before getting this game (i.e the Ally, Steamdeck or Legion go). You couldn't pay me to play the Switch ver of this game... because this game, and other 2D run'in gun games like it, are practically required (imo) to run at a solid 60fps due to the precision & accuracy needed to be able to get the most out of the game.
Somewhat, yes. They released an update recently, and it smoothed out a few of the kinks.
FYI "corps" is pronounced "core."
Been checking out a few reviews for this game. I'm a bit surprised how common that mistake is made in videos, and how many people don't know in the comments lol. I guess it's not well known.

Seriously, after Shattered Soldier and Neo ruined the series' lore by revealing the aliens were actually trying to recover a lost artifact and that the government was behind everything and even going as far as to make Lance Bean and Lucia into antagonists, and after the shit show that was Rogue Corps, a complete, 100% reboot of the franchise is just the right thing we needed.

Sorry, what do you mean by "Please someone do an emulation of that"? Maybe i don't understand your statement or maybe you are not aware that Alien Wars can already be played officially on Playstation,Switch,Xbox and PC.
It's on the Contra Anniversary Collection. It's done by M2 so the emulation is pretty good. All the other 8-bit and 16-bit Contra games are in that collection as well. So 'someone already did an emulation of that'.

Get the Xbox or PS5 version. Switch version runs well, but just can't compare. You can look up Mike Matei's video. He did a video playing both Swtich and PS5. You can see how much shaper and more vibrant PS5 version is. Much more details. Smooth 60 fps as opposed to 30.

Contra Rouge corp isn't that bad. Same with Neo Contra, Legacy of War ect. The series needed some adaption for its time revisiting them today you will find a new appreciation.

I'll stick with the originals. The plain graphics look terrible and not enough impact on the explosions. The demo I played made it feel like a mobile game.

I'd have definitely preferred something more Contra 3/Hard Corps inspired personally. What they've gone for isn't bad as such, just bland and safe.
Sterile and bland are completely subjective and mean something different to everyone. Why do you need a review to personally tell you the graphics look bland when you can literally see the graphics, and they appear bland to you? That's a big weird if you ask me.

Wayforward built their success on a half naked jeenie. I have noticed all their new games now are all westernized. I will not support a company that turned their back on what made them popular. The guys are jacked and half naked. While the main lady has a very well placed tactical vest that makes no sense. You could argue logic, but the guys are half naked, they are not practical at all.
