  • After checking out Whinlatter Forest (check this out as well if you want to plan a banger of a weekend) we headed for a true Lakes Classic. We teamed up with Joe Flanagan who runs Flow Mountain Bike Coaching in the lakes. We would always recommend heading out with a guide or someone with experience away from the trail centres.
    This was a long day out with a serious elevation gain and some hike-a-bike. We had the most incredible day with the sun making an appearance for most of the day. Both PCJ and Liam who joined us share their tales of suffering and challenges on this loop in the past. It’s remote and exposed. We even got a bit of snow towards the end which just shows how quickly conditions can change.

      Definitely not 😂 you might need to hit the gym and get seriously strong if you were going to attempt that.

    Quality video, it does the ride justice! 👏 What time of year was this to get snow?

      Hey Paul, we went for this ride in the middle of April, when it was supposed to be getting warm, but Mother Nature had decided otherwise. It was so cold when you weren't in the sunshine.

    Don't suppose you have a komoot or a garmin gpx do you, strava routes are only available if you have a paid sub

    Greta vid. Can I just ask how much full on hike-a-bike there was as I have a very heavy e MTB & can't really get it up & over onto my shoulders so usually end up pushing it up the tech steep stuff. Just not sure this would be possible on this route. What do you reckon? Cheers, Neil

      @TheContourCollective  Před 2 lety +1

      There’s a good amount of hike a bike on this loop and would be hard on an ebike. You’d probably best to ride this on an analogue bike, especially as it get quite remote and you wouldn’t want to be caught out without battery. Ebikes, personally, are best for trail centres and rides with good escape routes in case of issues.

      @@TheContourCollective thanks for the tip. FYI I’ve done a fair few mountain days out, so don’t necessarily agree that eMTBs best for trail centres. I guess it all depends on your experience & abilities. I have a 750w/h battery for the very reason (big range) & on v long rides I’ve carried the charger & popped into a pub or cafe & topped up. I usually ride alone so lugging the bike up & over onto my shoulders is a hard one for me. Might have to go on my old, normal MTB for the 4 passes, last biggie I did was High street, which was tough but manageable. Cheers

      @@neilbower123 Where there's a chance to charge the battery then that's brilliant however the rides I was meaning are those remote mountain adventures where you're out for 6+ hours without access to pubs/cafes and charging point. I'd say this ride is on the edge of being suitable for an ebike but if you kept it on eco, felt strong then you may manage it. The two hikes are quite arduous. I felt it would be best suited to an analogue bike though. Have a great ride if you get out there, you won't be disappointed!

      @@neilbower123 check out EMBN they did it with ebikes and a couple of other have too. I reckon you could get away with it. Keep it in eco as much as possible Im getting around 25 mile of non stop climbing ad decent On trail.

    Is this the best direction to do the loop in your opinion? Looking for a recommendation with least painful hike-a-bike way as I have a heavy eMTB

      Anti-Clockwise is the route we went. Some tough hike a bikes, especially with a ebike. Enjoy!
