Everyone swears by bike body separation, but very few people even know why this makes sense. It’s because you can more quickly turn by just leaning the bike instead of your entire body. This makes a lot of sense on tight switchbacks in MTB. For faster wider corners, it doesn’t matter whether you lean your bike or your body or both.
These videos are really great and a nice departure from the usual skills and tips videos around CZcams. Keep it up guys. Loving the channel!
Right on, thanks for tuning in!
Eliot is an absolute machine 2 watch great stuff!!
Damn that's some good stuff Eliot! Hope to see you doing more of this type of content!
🤘🏼
Great video, super helpful!
Excellent biking and teaching skills.
Love the video. Glad to see two pros giving us guidance/instruction. Come on out to Greer for a session. Hit me up and I’ll be there for a little tour.
Great video with solid information!
Best tutorial I have seen!
I really think this will improve my riding.
Thanks :)
Cool video! Thanks.
This channel is LIT !!! LOVE IT
Eliot, you're really good at this; teaching and articulating subject matter coherently. Well done. Very watchable.
🙌🏻
Agreed!
Nice stufff! Thank you much!!!
Wow! it is really cool to see two pro-riders showing the rest of us how to do it! I subscribed right away, but I have a suggestion since the channel is new. I have been watching these MTB training videos for a few years now and one thing I see a lot of new training channels do is to cram too many skills into one video. Speaking for myself, I would much rather see more videos where each video is focusing on one skill at a time, with lots of side angles and slow motion along side the explanations. Cheers!
Right on, good suggestion! We'll definitely take that into account for future vids and tutorials!
We think alike, but I'm not as professional as you, LOL. how are you doing these days?
Good info. Thank you.
Where has this channel been all my life?! Keep the awesome content coming!
Hah thanks! More coming soon!
There approach of choosing your lines/path has a lot in common with motor racing on a circuit, in terms of what you wanna achieve (go fast, smooth, fun, etc.). Track-knowledge is a BIG advantage, but looking forward far enough is just as important!
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the channel!!!!!!
I’ve been watching BK’s vids for a few seasons now, and after a while it becomes obvious why sometimes the main line sometimes isn’t the best line. You can really learn a lot from watching (or riding) with great riders. I’ve found myself thinking on occasion ‘yeah, that was a BK line’ on rides, after uncorking a not obviously better line thru a series of curves. It’s fun! This is a huge part of the fun of deciphering the options when riding a trail, and is what this video is trying to impart. Great reminder to always look for alternative lines and how they might work out better (or worse). And can’t believe Elliot can brake so well with his brake backwards!
Brake backwards?
I went to the bike park yesterday. I go about 1 time a month. My riding buddy who is more advanced rode behind me. At the end of the line he said he saw a lot of areas/ lines that I made it way to difficult. The next run, he rode first, and at the sections that were knarly that I hammered through he showed me his lines. His lines were so much smoother, and faster. That was a big help to have a more advanced rider watching me ride to help with line choice and body position.
Typically squaring a corner off in a series of Corners is the best approach. Trying to get most of the braking done before Corner entry as well. Although Trail braking into the corner to the Apex is efficient but hard to master.
Great video! Super informational, can't wait to get out there on my local trails and put this stuff into practice! Cheers!
🙌🏼
excellent video. as others have said, this is a step above the usual youtube bike tips. Getting deep but keeping it simple at the same time.
Right on, thanks for the feedback!
Wow!!!! Thank you for the video. Great instruction with sick audio and visual examples. Stoked !
Right on, glad you're liking it!
Decent riding style Eliot!
This video is wild! How can somebody so nice and calm be such a maniac on a bike😂
So glad I found you channel! Super helpful and great production quality! Up 70 subscribers since this afternoon!
Thanks for the good feedback!
great video, would love to hear more pro racing tips!
Just found these (YT showed you to me) and loving this for MTB. It’s better for those with some skills. And I like that. Just a little tip/question: is the editor as good on a bike as you guys? Some of the cuts actually missed out the key moments (not all, agreed). Having said that, all the edits looked great, but maybe that’s only partly a priority? Anyway, great job and more please when you two are together. And Elliot as lead is perfect bringing his DH and RB experience, so sometimes you’ll have somebody else with him. But BK’s attitude has real value: he said it how it is, a good coach (no surprise given his roles at Pivot!).
Brake bias needed to be corrected. Rear wheel lock is not desired in the apporach! Learn the fine art of the front brake. While it can get you in trouble, done properly, it will keep trouble at bay. Getting the front tire to plant during braking is key. If you get it planted, you can ditch more speed in a shorter distance and never lock the rear since it does little work. Ditch speed as needed.
Great video! I am coming from years of motocross and MTB seems to require a little more body movement maybe.
This vidéo is awesome ! I have learn à lot of think thanks you 🤘
Awesome, glad to hear it!
Wow i Love those Videos. Eliot You are such a shreder😁👌 thanks Guys for the quality content! I learned a lot from it.
One thing I have learned when choosing a line. When you are a beginner you need to select a safe line. But when you are more experienced I say, "Pick your line, then ride it anyway". Because some times you will be thrown off your line, but don't panic. Just ride it.
We think alike, but I'm not as professional as you, LOL. how are you doing these days?
tight Helm-Strap should be the first thing you teach each rider
Pretty cool video.
dude this is so helpful. thank you from your new sub!
Right on, thanks! Welcome.
Just discovered this channel, very nice. I’ve seen Eliot commenting on red bull and really like his demeanour. Plus excellent advice too, I’ve subscribed obviously…
Thanks Eliot that was brilliant
🙏🏼
If Eliot is on a bike or commenting on riding, I'm watching! Keep the content coming, i just subscribed!
Sounds good! We’ll keep pumping them out
Good teaching
👌🏽
Very good knowleadge🔥
🙌🏻
🤘🏾 yAAAh man
Awesome videos! Please add chapters though. They'd help a lot.
Thanks, good suggestion will do!
Dang, this was really informative. I can't figure out braking points at all I hope these tips will help, also the braking and suspension collation was a "oh shit, yeah that makes sense" moment.
Right on, glad to hear it!
EXCELLENT CONTENT (Elliot can you do your helmet up tho)
At my advance age right now, I'll go for the fun line as oppose to the fastest line regardless I ride an enduro bike. working out the suspension stroke worth the money.
Great content 💪
Thanks, glad you’re liking it!
Pleasure
JUST SUBSCRIBED!!!👍👍👍👍
🙌🏼
The strap of your helmet triggered me quite hard. 😂
Besides that, nice vid. Keep going. 😊
Picked a beginner out of a rock garden last month with a serious knock on the side of his head. His helmet was high quality but hanging around his neck. He’d been wearing the strap way too loose because he was copying his “CZcams Hero”. With the chinstrap really loose you may “look cool” but you may as well take the helmet off. Just wear them properly, nothing cool about getting avoidable injuries.
I rode those trails last June. There's some fun jump lines there! Great tips btw.
Yeah super fun spot so close to LA. Thanks!
What trails were those?
@@tomfitz3324 up in the hills behind San Clemente
This is super understandable thank you. Is the part of the flow where your back tyre breaks traction and does a flick eg 9:23 a technique or simply a function of going fast and changing direction quickly?
Its called Scandinavian flick I think
Every mtb trainer is going to teach you these, if you’re looking to advance a hobby riding, this is what you need to know.
Sir
I am also from village.
I am very confused about selection of cycle for mountain ride.
Please suggect me which cycle cam I purchase.
Hoping you will get my message.
What about scott aspect 940?
Könntest du bitte ein Video darüber machen wie man seinen Helm richtig anzieht?
Module 3 in the full course addresses helmets if you'd like to check it out www.crux.academy/course/downhill-enduro-mountain-biking-with-eliot-jackson-special-guest-bernard-kerr
Mate where i can buy this sunglasses😊
Friend, you fly on the bike, like you flow. I'm new to this and I don't know who you are, but I'm sure a known rider in the world. Thanks for the explanation . A note : I loved your glasses , what brand and model are they ? Saludos desde España😊
I believe 100%
What helmet is that?
It’s so crazy how riders will always do breaking in the wrong places. So many times I find I have finished my breaking by the time I’ve hit the breaking bumps so I will try to shoot wide or dive in low of the breaking bumps
Awesome advice. Love ot. Where is this trail?
It's a few different trails outside of Laguna, CA
@@cruxacademybike figured. Looks familiar. Love your content. Keep it up.
Love the bike design czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube. All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.
I wpud suggest keep the helment a bit tighter
Hey Elliot what is the brand of your helmet? Thanks
I think 100%
Thanks Man !
This rider is much better than I am. I don’t agree with riding over the grass because it makes a better line. Obviously I’ve gone too fast and ridden off trail by accident but I always plan to stay on the actual trail. Otherwise the trail just gets widened. When I rode in Fruita, CO a long time ago there was a local etiquette to keep on the trail which I thought was cool.
If you are racing I guess that’s one thing, but on trails that don’t necessarily have guaranteed maintenance, it can damage the trails.
No way you've only got 1k subscribers
You're early!
Getting off the brakes earlier!
Wow there's no way I'll be able to do any of that. I'm 67 I probably shouldn't even be watching this video LOL

Why doesn’t Rapha make MTB gloves????
"it isn't a downhill bike" challenge accepted
can't stop staring at those extra loose helmet straps 👀
Haha I know, we made fun of him for that too
Mean video
1st and only Skill: Go for a ride and find out.
BK on the Ferrari. Must have been filmed a while ago.
2022 👌🏽
Don't take this the wrong way but it's kinda funny that the guy on this video giving pro tips is wearing the strap from his helmet waaaaay to loose...
Bro can you give me a bike cause in our contry we don't have these type of bikes
All I can concentrate on is your helmet strap dude.
I’m not trying to be racist or anything but he’s the first black guy that I’ve seen on CZcams mountain biking because it’s usually white or Asian so I didn’t really think about it much until now
Yeah there needs to be more diverse representation in mountain biking media for sure!
I’m a pro beginner rider and I can absolutely tell you that none of this matters when riding
