Mountain Biking a Classic Lake District Route | The Borrowdale Bash

  • In this video I ride an absolute classic route in The Lake District, know as The Borrowdale Bash. Starting in Keswick, the ride takes you to more than a handful of picturesque locations, including Ashness Bridge, Surprise View, Honister Pass, and Castle Crag. Following a mixture of narrow roads, technical climbs, and bone shaking descents, this route gives you a real taste of what Lakes riding is all about. With the route being fairly low level, it's a nice accessible one for a wide variety of riders with different skill levels. I hope you enjoy the video!
    It's been a really long time since I've been able to post a video as I've had to replace my laptop, but I'd like to say a huge thanks to everyone who has stuck around despite there being no new content. Now that I'm able to edit again, I'm really hoping that we can get back into the swing of things and have plenty of great videos to share over the remainder of the year!

    Rad Dad. I presume the descents when we couldn't see him were when he'd smoked off and you were playing catchup? 😉
    I'm heading to my 'local' track on Sunday for the first time this year. It's the Highland Wildcat trails up Ben Bhraggie in Golspie. Have you been that far north? It's a fun ride. Not many downhill runs near me as I'm right on the north coast near Thurso. Grew up riding lake district trails in the 90's on a full rigid mtb, v brakes and all. You had to pick a good line when it was wet because you couldn't slow down 😂

      I've been up that way years back but never with the bike, keen to either this year or next though, just got some finishing touches to do to my little camper conversion then I'm hoping for some decent road trips!
      My dad still has his Tushingham B.52 that he was riding when he first got into mountain biking in the lakes. Always thought it would be a laugh to try and ride that some time but I'm not sure I'd make it back in one piece 😂

    • @DistrictMountainBiker
      @DistrictMountainBiker  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks! It took us 3 hours of moving time but I was also stopping a lot to film/get the camera set up etc so that added a good hour or so on top. I'd say roughly 4 hours gives you a lot of time to stop, check out the scenery and have some lunch 👍 It's possible to do it in much less time but I'm also lacking fitness at the minute haha

  • @esavirtanen6418
    @esavirtanen6418 Před 10 měsíci

    Amazing ride. Would this kind of route be too much for a HT XC bike? I'm quite new to mtbiking, or would a FS be "needed"?

    • @DistrictMountainBiker
      @DistrictMountainBiker  Před 10 měsíci

      I’d probably always opt for the full sus as it’s more forgiving on the technical sections. It depends on your style of riding but the rocky descents are the parts I enjoy the most and I don’t feel I’d be able to ride them at the same level on a HT. I know people who do ride it on HTs though so it’s definitely doable, and with the opportunity for a cafe stop and some great views it’s a nice day out even if you take your time. What’s more important than the suspension though is a decent set of tyres as it’s an easy route to get pinch flats which are never fun haha.
