Every year since I was a kid I'd play this recorded video tape, and then I discovered CZcams as a teen and has been my tradition to watch this, the blokes are the best at it 🙌 back when carols where good hahahaha
I reckon David is the best tenor in Australia, such a gifted voice, Hugh Jackman brilliant voice and Peter Cousens mighty performance
The myrhh part is the most menacing. Carries a dark foreboding. I saw a Readers Digest version when i was a kid with the myrhh part recited as a poem. It was breathtaking!
I really like the tempo - it makes the ritardi more interesting. I know these guys must be famous down in Australia (I have heard the name Hugh Jackman, anyway), so they're sort of kidding around, but they are - in spite of their lightheartedness - doing a very nice job.
Listening to this song by these three has become a Christmas tradition.

I've only just found this!! Not sure how I missed it on TV - I was probably playing at a carol's gig elsewhere. I grew up with David Hobson in Ballarat, and he was a rock/pop singer back then!! It never feels like Christmas until he has sung at one of the Carols on TV 🙂

How can Hugh look so natural in a cape...
Of the three capes, Hugh's cape is much better cut than the other two. It means that it falls in beautiful folds along the front edge, like a cape on a medieval statue. Peter's cape is heavier, regal, and not designed to do that. David's cape is much too light weight. It needs a heavy satin lining.

This has become my absolute favourite version of this song. The tempo, the intensity and richness, the excitement they bring … all other versions seem weak, dull, and dragging. This version is kings going to a major event!

This Christmas special was an example of this "sharing of voices" to proclaim the birth of Jesus Christ, Hugh Jackman's personal Lord and Savior. I was thrilled to exchange stories with Hugh between costume changes concerning the Holy Scriptures and our mutual faith, and, of course, our mutual love for shark hunting. As you know Hugh has a ravenous appetite for shark (or "sharkies" as they are called down under) and loves to hunt them on his own terms, by hand. When the Christmas special was over everyone picked up their wraps and coats, walked outside in the cold air, departed in carriages, or some in their cars, and vanished into a black night, thinking of something we knew long ago.

Reminds of a similar programme from 1988 and broadcast from London. This programme was a show stopper - there were 12 peers of the realm in the the 12 Days, and similar such actors in this one time only broadcast. The closing was a blessing given by the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.
