If you watched this video after watching it from Netflix, give me a thumbs up. You are not alone! I love this song and I even watched the latest version with the new generation of artists.
It’s great. And encouraging to see a room of superstars being insecure in each other’s presence; everyone has idols, everyone feels less-than next to someone. Just be you.
Favorite part for sure was learning that Stevie Wonder showed Dylan what to sing by singing it impersonating Dylan’s own voice. In the nearly dropping the ball category, Al Jarreau sure jumped the gun tying one on. You can see his eyes looking misty and distant even in the choruses, which were done before the solos! You can see in the video that unlike most soloists, there’s a slight jump cut where they must have had to edit his solo parts from multiple takes, thus his head movement doesn’t match in the edit. (My guess is the poor guy was probably about to lose his shit in a room with all those soul giants. Can’t say I blame him, just imagine.)
Whoelse is here after seeing the Netflix documentary. The greatest night in Pop? Edit- Wow! So much likes, it's great to see many people loved the documentary the same way I did. I doubt if such an iconic moment can ever be created in the world again.

Also, Lionel Richie deserves a hugeeee standing ovation for his role here. Hosted the AMAs, won prizes, went to the studio, kept solving problems, made everyone feel at ease, made them laugh, kept guiding people, SANGGGG, and stayed until the very end (and of course he co wrote the song!!!!). That man did A LOTTTT and we do not appreciate that enough.
Lionel looks like that classmate in high school who made sure the other classmate was able to copy the answer. He is such a nice person to everybody the way he looks out for them. Bruce (I love him a lot!), Lionel, Michael, Steve Perry (just because he is my all-time favorite), and Kenny Rogers (makes me cry watching the documentary) are in my top 5!
I cried watching the Netflix documentary. What came across is the humanity and humility of these incredible artists who came together and created something special. Amazing! ✨
That’s the way the world “used” to be. Things change; and not always for the better. This song brought us back together for a moment, but then is was back to the same ole things…
This song is the soul of the 80's. So happy I grew up in that time. Was 15 when it came out, now 53, and it's still one of the best things music has ever done.
I watched the documentary on Netflix yesterday and found this music video for the first time in a long time. They say nothing lasts forever, but this song will last forever, and so will the hearts of so many of the musicians here.
Let me get this right. Lionel Richie wrote this song with Michael Jackson, hosted the American Music Awards that night, (where he won multiple awards), and then brought all of these amazing artists together to record this song? In the same night? Are you freaking kidding me?? This answers the question as to who the hardest working man in showbusiness is. Much respect Lionel Richie! And to all of the other brilliant artists who helped create this magical song!
I like to imagine that Michael told everyone to come to the studio wearing just whatever, only so he could appear with the most and freshest drip possible lmaoo
Me too. Keep going! See the reality and call out the wrong, Feel the feels, rest and love, and keep going. We are the change. Together with love we can follow these guiding words. It is true, we will make a better day for us. Be loving, be brave, be strong. May you and all of us be blessed in the unfolding Miracle! 🌈 ❤🔥🌟
It's almost 40 years since this masterpiece was recorded and the quality of the sound was top notch, clear crystal all the guys involved in putting this piece together are true legends worth celebrating.
My favorite part of the Netflix documentary is when the cameraman said he wrote up his invoice for the gig and then learned everyone involved volunteered. And here he is 40 years later, appearing in the documentary, knowing he was a part of something far greater than one night's pay.
Finished watching the Netflix documentary some hours ago and I realized he(Micheal Jackson) and Lionel Richy wrote this beautiful piece and Quincy brought them all together. This is amazing work will forever be remembered
I love this track, it's incredible to know that one day all these talented artists will come together to give us this classic, for me the best song ever made. Unfortunately some of them are no longer with us but they will always be remembered.
Sometimes I rehearse for weeks to get a good recording, they did it in one night, after an event, where everyone was tired, despite the controversies and difficulties, they delivered their best in this show."

It's a beautiful masterpiece, but so many are no longer with us ,but those same artists will forever be sketched in our memories, Michael, Ray Charles ,Tina Turner ,James Ingram, and and a few others
I completely comprehend Diana Ross's sentiments when she sheds tears and expresses her desire for that night to never end. She, along with everyone present, was acutely aware that it marked a singular moment in their lives and in the broader scope of humanity. It is a legacy destined to endure for generations.
It’s 2024 and my heart aches for the dear musicians in this group who have left us, including those who did not solo. James Ingram, Kenny Rogers. Al Jarreau, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Tina Turner. Bonnie Pointer, Harry Belafonte.
For me second behind Stevie, but... You're also right, Michael is adorable. 😍 And he was the head behind all that with Ritchie, so... Honour and glory.
You act like he's the only one that sounds like that. His soft spoken vocal runs in the family. Listen to Janet and La Toya, and you won't find much difference.
If there ever was a song that encapsulated the innocence and pure intent from our 80’s youth and helped show our future generations what is at the heart of their parents(grandparents)…just what us Gen X’ers are…it’d be that song🌞
Agreed. For me, it's pairing Dionne Warwick with Willie Nelson. Not a tandem that would have occurred to me (or, per the documentary, Dionne!), but it works beautifully. The Huey/Cyndi/Kim trio is another example. Whatever one's opinion of the song (and mine has never been very high), the craftsmanship and ingenuity of the recording-and the many types of great singing-are hard to argue with.
People, where are our beautiful dreams for this world? Why did we become such strangers to each other? Why don't we sing these beautiful songs to our children? Why is life full of anger and hatred? Let's make the world a more beautiful place for our children.
Lyrics: [Lionel Richie] There comes a time when we heed a certain call [Lionel Richie & Stevie Wonder] When the world must come together as one [Stevie Wonder] There are people dying [Paul Simon] Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life [Paul Simon & Kenny Rogers] The greatest gift of all [Kenny Rogers] We can't go on pretending day by day [James Ingram] That someone, somewhere will soon make a change [Tina Turner] We are all part of God's great big family [Billy Joel] And the truth, you know, (love is all we need) [Michael Jackson] We are the world, we are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day So let's start giving [Diana Ross] There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives [Diana Ross & Michael Jackson] It's true, we'll make a better day Just you and me [Dionne Warwick] Woah, send them your heart So they'll know that someone cares And their (lives will be stronger and free) [Willie Nelson] As God has shown us by turning stones to bread [Al Jarreau] And so we all must lend a helping hand [Bruce Springsteen] We are the world, we are the children [Kenny Logins] We are the ones who make a brighter day So let's start giving [Steve Perry] Woah, there's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives [Daryl Hall] It's true, we'll make a better day Just you and me [Michael Jackson] When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all [Huey Lewis] But if you just believe, there's no way we can fall [Cyndi Lauper] Well, well, well, let us realize, oh, that a change can only come [Kim Carnes] When we... The ending really hit me and I’m 35 now. I just commented about the quote Lionel’s dad mentioned (the house) and the ambiance of Lionel saying “this person was right here she was right here “ 😢😢dang man makes you appreciate life more
Saludos desde Argentina (i dont speak englis, sorry)
Came here after the Netflix special documentary about the recording of this song. 😊 knowing what happened during the recording makes this song more special.
Incredible. Never knew the intricate details until I watched the Netflix feature. TQVM Netflix for bringing this back to life some 40 years on. Humanity stood tall that night!
I've cried like a baby watching this incredible development. Years and years singing this song everywhere and last night I realised they were human like me.
I cried at the end of the show in Netflix The Greatest Night in Pop when Lionel started mentioning that same stage where they all gathered and realized some of those artists are gone. It was really a magical night when they did it.
I cried so much when he said that line about what his father told him at the end 😢.. It just broke my heart to know so many of them are not here anymore.. Made me think of my own dad who passed on in September 2023 😭💔
Aqui do Brasil. Obrigada, obrigada, e obrigada!
Absolutely brilliant. Love it love it. 🥰Loved it then and love it even more now. Unfortunately many of these amazing musicians are not with us anymore. May they rock in heaven. 🙏
Just watched the documentary on netflix about the making of this song ''The Greatest Night in Pop'' and was amazing seeing so many legends, each contributing in their own way to make this song so iconic. So much talent all at once. Incredible. Also the stories Lionel Richie tells about Michael Jackson when they were writing this at his house, including his impressions of Michael, are hilarious. 🤣 Michael and Steevie Wonders were borderline music savants, just amazing to watch. They guy who matched the voices and duos was also amazing!!
Hello from Brasil! Assisti hoje e fiquei maravilhado!
Hello, I was born in 1981 and I am Turkish. Every time I listen to the best quality sounds I have ever heard in my life here. Every artist has the perfect voice. They are all professional and very talented. This is the most successful song made with the inadequate technology of those years. Even today it is not possible to make a song of this quality.

I remember ,this music to address I offer my heartfelt thanks for the song that the famous poets and song writers played to help the people of Ethiopia, because the children of Great Ethiopia are exposed to extreme hunger due to natural drought!! From Addis Ababa Ethiopia!!
Deeply heartbreaking that the choice of LOVING & TRULY BEING THEIR FOR ONE ANOTHER IS EXTREMELY SCARCE THESE DAYS.I WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY AND BELIEVE MORE OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AROUND THE WORLD WILL SOFTEN THEIR HEARTS AND DEEPLY SHARE THE LOVE OF GOD & AS FOR GOD TO EVERYONE 🙏🙏🏻🙏🏾♥️♥️♥️🌍🌍🌍
So much more appreciation for this song after watching the Netflix documentary and seeing how tirelessly the artists worked for this song. Well done!🙏🙏🙏♥♥♥
I just watch the Netflix documentary about how Harry Belafonte wanted to do something to help the famine stricken people of Ethiopia in 1985. If you want to watch something uplifting, inspiring and a bit awing don't miss it. Watching this right after the documentary is really giving the whole thing a different meaning. Beautiful!
I'm glad Prince didn't show up for this. Huey Lewis's part has always hit me hard (according to the Netflix documentary Huey took Prince's part). Also.. Cyndi Lauper's part is just amazing! So raw and powerful. Plus that Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen combo! It was also very nice to see the support Bob Dylan got in order to sing his part. They did a really great job matching vocals.
I came from Netflix, I cried many times seeing the “movie” specially when Lionel said“ when I return home my family talks about my awards last night, but I just talk and talk about we are the world “ and the part Diana is crying and someone’s ask why and she said “because I don’t want this finish ever”
There will NEVER be something like We Are The World ever again. This is not a piece of musical history, it's a piece of HUMAN history. Countless generations will hear, or at least, hear about this song. This, this is immortal.
I just watched "Pop's Big Night" on Netflix. It is absolutely impressive... that even watching it on Netflix it is impossible to believe how it was achieved "when they never rehearsed for weeks", leaving the Grammys for hours and hours in a studio. 47 Pop stars. You won't regret it, and it's awesome.

We are the world (dear God) (are the world) We are the children (are the children) We are the ones that make a brighter day so let's start giving (all right, can you hear what I'm saying?) There's a choice we're making, we're saving our own lives
Michael jackson will always ve my favorite artist and definitely the best human being, how kind, how humble how sweet, there will never be someone like him! Much respect for lionel ritchie too
This might have been a decent song except for Bruce Springsteen. He has the worst voice ever and totally ruins it! Just horrible! Who did he know to experience such "success"?
People who weren't around when this was released probably don't realize how awesome this felt. It was like the Avengers of the music world assembling, and was quite the spectacle.
I get goosebumps listening to these extraordinary voices. Everything was spontaneous, they were real talents, not the shells without substance that we see today on social media. They are voices and people we will never have again, but we have their songs and will be able to listen to them forever! ❤ love Michael Jackson and Ray Charles.
Gotta respect the 80's... what an incredible display of raw talent all over this here. but Willie always gets me like no one... soo loose..., Quincy did an amazing job!
It's 2024, I'm 18 now and this song got up in the mainstream again because of the documentary. I'm listening to it for the thousandth time in my life, but only now I could comprehend how big this attitude was, only now I could recognize everyone in that video and see how much of a world change this was! So, that's the first time I'm crying listening to it! Simply amazing!!
I want you to know that there was a better time in this Country. People weren't giant cxnts like today. And the majority used to call out BS like weponized racism and gay gender BS. Blm was called the Black Panther Party and was considered the black version of the KKK which is what they are.
I was saying the same thing. Bruce has that gritty tone and Stevie with the harmony was beautiful. One thing I did notice is you now know who really can sing and who uses technology to sound the way they do. Perry’s voice is unbelievable as well. Just as you thought you saw the best sing another would step in and it just the wow factor. This definitely was the best song at the time.
APAIXONANTE❤
If you watched this video after watching it from Netflix, give me a thumbs up. You are not alone! I love this song and I even watched the latest version with the new generation of artists.
It’s great. And encouraging to see a room of superstars being insecure in each other’s presence; everyone has idols, everyone feels less-than next to someone. Just be you.

In the nearly dropping the ball category, Al Jarreau sure jumped the gun tying one on. You can see his eyes looking misty and distant even in the choruses, which were done before the solos! You can see in the video that unlike most soloists, there’s a slight jump cut where they must have had to edit his solo parts from multiple takes, thus his head movement doesn’t match in the edit. totally agree
He is so down to earth. And also Michael Jackson.
Agreeeeee 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Bellissimo
Je viens de le terminer.
Juste magique.
🥺
❤🙏🏽
they spend a whole night for did this epic song - kudos to everyone!
The ending where Lionel Richie was talking about MJ no longer being here was heartbreaking. He was such a gift to this world.
This song is the soul of the 80's. So happy I grew up in that time. Was 15 when it came out, now 53, and it's still one of the best things music has ever done.
This song gives me hope for the world. I really hope so ❤
Please let it be so 😘
In my 50's too; the song still gives me chills!

I watched the documentary on Netflix yesterday and found this music video for the first time in a long time. They say nothing lasts forever, but this song will last forever, and so will the hearts of so many of the musicians here.
Preach!
Dont forget he robbed a bank and ran for president the next day. The guy was a juggernaut.
Watch the documentary.
I know, right? He should also tried the lottery that night.
he didnt sleep at least two day for this i guess ... they finish recording at 7AM ... crazy night
He also performed at AMAs during that night. Just… wow.
I like to imagine that Michael told everyone to come to the studio wearing just whatever, only so he could appear with the most and freshest drip possible lmaoo
🤣
Plss
😹
He might have done that. " wear anything that makes you feel comfy" and he is comfy with his style
xD
All iconic artists in one iconic song but MJ sprinkled some magic and made it even more iconic

It's almost 40 years since this masterpiece was recorded and the quality of the sound was top notch, clear crystal all the guys involved in putting this piece together are true legends worth celebrating.
One Of The Most Beautiful Songs Ever Written❤
My favorite part of the Netflix documentary is when the cameraman said he wrote up his invoice for the gig and then learned everyone involved volunteered. And here he is 40 years later, appearing in the documentary, knowing he was a part of something far greater than one night's pay.
I also hoped that he got paid good this time, almost 40 years later!
Yeah the biggest stars in history didn't pay the crew. It's too funny no matter the purpose😅
Finished watching the Netflix documentary some hours ago and I realized he(Micheal Jackson) and Lionel Richy wrote this beautiful piece and Quincy brought them all together. This is amazing work will forever be remembered
True!!!!

Yeah. Me too... Lionel is a class act. Bruce Springsteen, Steve Perry, Stevie Wonder and Huey Lewis really stood out as professionals too.

I love this track, it's incredible to know that one day all these talented artists will come together to give us this classic, for me the best song ever made. Unfortunately some of them are no longer with us but they will always be remembered.

I completely comprehend Diana Ross's sentiments when she sheds tears and expresses her desire for that night to never end. She, along with everyone present, was acutely aware that it marked a singular moment in their lives and in the broader scope of humanity. It is a legacy destined to endure for generations.

Michael Jackson has the most amazing voice ever!!! This man is all about magic!
He sings like an angel

Miss him a lot 😢
For me second behind Stevie, but... You're also right, Michael is adorable. 😍 And he was the head behind all that with Ritchie, so... Honour and glory.
You act like he's the only one that sounds like that. His soft spoken vocal runs in the family. Listen to Janet and La Toya, and you won't find much difference.
If there ever was a song that encapsulated the innocence and pure intent from our 80’s youth and helped show our future generations what is at the heart of their parents(grandparents)…just what us Gen X’ers are…it’d be that song🌞
The contrast between Stevie’s and Bruce’s voice gives me chills every time
yeah ,100% true
Una locura
Odd but perfectly fit
Absolutely!! Such an important duo right there!
I still get chills seeing all these singers together after all these years

We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me, come on now, let me hear you
We are the world (we are the world)
We are the children (we are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me, yeah
We are the world (we are the world)
We are the children (we are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
And we're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
We are the world (are the world)
We are the children (are the children)
We are the ones who'll make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
We are the world, we are the world (are the world)
We are the children, yes sir (are the children)
We are the ones that make a brighter day so let's start giving (so let's start giving)
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me, ooh-hoo!
We are the world (dear God) (are the world)
We are the children (are the children)
We are the ones that make a brighter day so let's start giving (all right, can you hear what I'm saying?)
There's a choice we're making, we're saving our own lives
Guys we used to have this type of songs in our times
Michael jackson will always ve my favorite artist and definitely the best human being, how kind, how humble how sweet, there will never be someone like him! Much respect for lionel ritchie too
Prince seemed so rude in the documentary, Michael is so much kind ❤
@@geovannaagra3253i always thought prince was michael jackson
@@alexgunner1882 😂
He sure was kind to those children
Lo amo por siempre. Te amamos Michael 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this already, but whoever decided to put Bruce & Stevie’s voices together, is a GENIUS!
This might have been a decent song except for Bruce Springsteen. He has the worst voice ever and totally ruins it! Just horrible! Who did he know to experience such "success"?
agree
@@dianariverjackson5123 Who do you agree with? Me, or Tee?
Stevie wonder his head action looks alike the frog in the Sesame Street.
No one ever mentioned and YUP!
For whoever comes across this message, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a life brimming with joy, prosperity, and countless blessings.
People who weren't around when this was released probably don't realize how awesome this felt. It was like the Avengers of the music world assembling, and was quite the spectacle.
It really wa. So fortunate to have experienced this. Played all around the world at the same time that day
They Avengers of they Music world
RIP Michael Jackson
RIP Ray Charles
RIP Kenny Rogers
RIP James Ingram
RIP Al Jarreau
It will be a sad, sad day when Stevie wonder is added to this list
😭😭😭😭
I am so sad 😭
😭😭😭😭😭
Thanks for the prayers; on behalf of the ones left for heavenly abode!

As tina says: Simply the best.
Awe, now i'm nearly in tears!
I want you to know that there was a better time in this Country. People weren't giant cxnts like today. And the majority used to call out BS like weponized racism and gay gender BS. Blm was called the Black Panther Party and was considered the black version of the KKK which is what they are.
@@tetsu7513 Totally bro, I haven’t watch the documentary when I wrote this comment yet. But still it had a different approach in my heart!
que musica linda
Ogni volta che l'ascolto mi suscita emozioni fortissime ❤
The stevie-springsteen duet was just unreal. Good choice pairing them for that.
I agree! I had the same thought watching this.
I love the last part with them.
This definitely was the best song at the time.
ikr? stevie's honey voice and bruce's raspy tone make such a pleasing contrast it's sooo nice to hear
Anyone who doesn't cry a little at that part has no soul! 🥹
If i could thank someone in person for saving my own life how would i find you because its really me and my life is worth living thank you so much.
APAIXONANTE❤
