#Comedy #HughLaurie - Komedie
I do think it's a real shame that a large audience share is only going to know him for House. There's plenty of great actors out there, but no one can do comedy quite like Laurie. There is no one on earth I'd rather have had play Bertie Wooster. Laurie's a genius.
Who is this House ?
It's interesting that a few comedians are also remarkable actors.
@@pressureworks not funny
@@jamesu1540 oh, ok, so no reason to check it out then. Thank you !
@@pressureworks House is a great show, Hugh Laurie is a great actor and is funny if you have a dark (British) sense of humour. But totally different from his old shows shown here. You should watch it
Laurie actually can play those instruments. Immense talent.
Joe Boudreault - He was in a rock band called Band from TV. Wikipedia mentions several jazz albums "with his band", so that might be another band.
He's a very talented pianist.
See Jools Holland n Chas n Dave.
Wonderful collaborations.
As much talent as Fry has none ...
@@team3383 Oh come now, Fry was the straight man to the tipsy, zany Laurie in comedy. And Fry wrote some great lines for both of them.
@@joeboudreault2226 Laurie was the bottom line of many many of the sit coms he participated in while others took the glory (Black Adder comes to mind) - He's only being recognised now for how good he really is. His room mates only come up to his ankles and calling Fry a "Straight Man" ... Look it up mate. He's as bent as a 3 pound note.
Hugh Laurie's interview as an American reveals how he pulled off his accent for the TV show House. These British comedians are brilliant.
He watched a lot of American television as a child and that's where he first picked it up and likely why it's so perfect.
@@Pagliacci_Rex Yeah, clearly he knows it like the back of his hand! ☺️
That and he's an actor lol
If these are his funnist moments, then he is not that funny.
@@seanleith5312
He can be quite funny, in a very subtle way...I guess. But after watching just a quarter of this video someone would think it's about Rowan Atkinson who really is quite funny WITHOUT it being subtle.
"For me, socks are like sex. Tonnes of it about and I never seem to get any."
I feel called out.
You only ever get socks for Christmas from your family too
@@basil5973 bruh
We all got Costco socks for Christmas for years growing up. Now we're all in our late 50's and 60's and last Christmas we all showed up with our families to open gifts, AND THERE WERE NO SOCKS!! Everybody got upset because we all counted on those clean, creamy white sock! Tradition, Christmas Tradition! My dad started laughing his butt off and proceeded to produce a huge hefty bag FULL of wrapped socks! Proceeded to pass them out to cheers and applause all round! Whew!! That was close! Never again!
Never forget they're often mismatched and you're missing the other half most of the time.
@@sumthingwikked4257 Don't forget that there is a wormhole attached to every washing machine. It is obligatory for a sock in every wash to be drawn into it, never to be seen again. Somewhere in the galaxy there is a veritable Sargasso Sea of individual socks floating around. And not a few knickers and shirts...
Blackadder had such a genius cast. One of the best shows!
It's sad to know that in the 3rd-world country where I live people only regard Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean. Other great talents from the series like Fry, Laurie and Richardson are barely recognized here.
@@akunformalitas ah yes there it is
For me? The greatest Comedy Series of all time. And the Fourth ends in such a powerful, pathos filled scene? Stands the test of time.
Rowan Attkinson’s genuine horror at chipmunk is the best thing ever.
I adore Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. Wonderful actors and marvelous comedians, both of them!
They’re a brilliant duo aren’t they?! ❤️
If you haven't already read it. Soupy Twists by Jim Roberts you would enjoy.
I actually think he worked better with Rowan Atkinson on the black adder series. A bit of Fry and Laura always struck me as cringe and arrogant. I love Steven Fry on QI and in his parts in BA and just about any movie he is in but if it is his own sketch comedy it just doesn't play right.
You need a believable straight man when you have what is supposed to be a dummy and Rowan just blows that out of the water.
Now Laura playing serious roles was actually greatness.
@@DarthPoyner I read somewhere that nostalgia plays a part in how you feel about certain shows. I was 13/14 when I became a fan of Fry & Laurie, and I will admit becoming a wee bit obsessed with the show recently after reading 'Soupy Twists' by Jem Roberts. Some of the wordplay may have led it to strike you as cringe and arrogant, which is understandable. But Fry & Laurie were anything but, and for someone who adores the show that's surprising to hear from a Blackadder fan. Regarding Laurie's serious rolls, I've tried watching I really have, but when do I just want to go back to Blackadder and Fry & Laurie. Maybe nostalgia playing a part right enough eh.
Jeeves and Wooster is good and has both Frye and Laurie.
“Never mind the sketch that was TOO hard.”
“He’s just a child, really.” 🤣
The writing in Blackadder is beyond brilliant. Its genius
Ben Elton co-wrote Blackadder from the second series onwards, he is a comedy genius.
Rowan Atkinson wrote it with Richard Curtis (more famous for the Hugh grant rom coms nowadays) and from the second season, Ben Elton, who is immensely funny and has written some great books, at least one of which is now a movie.
I had no idea
It's cunning
@@NabeelFarooqui shut up Baldrick!
I grew up on Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. Was a massive fan. Imagine my surprise seeing him as House. Such a talented man. The Night Manager was fantastic too.
And Jeeves and Wooster!
I live in the middle of the USA so until recently House was the only show I had seen him in. I thought he was brilliant as House. It’s interesting to discover his talent as a comedian.
They should have passed on Daniel Craig for Spectre and got Laurie to play James Bond.
Same! When I saw the first adverts for house I was confused and delighted! Then I loved the show 👍🏽
TBH, it is a bit of a damp squid looking back. He has to earn a living.
Needs an award for a lifetime of comedy genius.
Agree.
Incredible
Hugh is such a fantastic blues/Jazz singer
Have you bought his latest CD?
@@AlphaGeekgirl umm cd's aren't in anymore. It's available on Spotify. For free. And he still gets (probably) paid for it.
He isss. I've been listening to his songs for like 2 hours yesterday
I have been listening to that piece on loop since a week. It's awesome.
@@dogmatic2553 Like he would need any money. Richer than the Banks Of The Thames.
17:25. When he bites the flower. Gets me every time. Perfect comedic timing.😂😂
Was right at that time stamp when reading this. Making it even better!!
"Sense & Sensibility" : "Try". That one word was perfection.
I remember seeing Hugh Laurie for the first time in “Sense and Sensibility” in a small roll with which he stole every scene he was in with a pitch perfect dry, humorous performance.
I agree! He took that tiny part and just made it acting gold!
My sentiments exactly. To stand out in such a small role in a great film with great cast is testament to his genius
Fry and Laurie as Jeeves and Wooster are my ultimate favourite. Hugh plays Wooster so perfectly.
I have loved him so long, for so much, but his ability to fall and get up instantly, is beyond amazing. The soccer bit blows my mind.
In a documentary he once said that he actually hurt himself somehow when they were filming the football bit.
Hugh Laurie is so naturally funny and handsome man.
A real national treasure. Incredible the amount of joy he has brought to Britons everywhere.
He's super famous in america
Not just Britons you know ....
Not just Britons, my friend! I can't think of any American comedians or comic actors that have made me laugh close to as much or as hard as Laurie, or Frye or Atkinson. I have Blackadder on DVD and I watch it every year or two and I STILL laugh my ass off. Since this was about Laurie, I'm a little disappointed they didn't include the clucking like an idiot scene from Blackadder 3.
Hugh Laurie: "My name is Derek Nippl-e".
American: "That sounds like a legit British name. They're weird."
😂😂😂
No one takes a fall quite like Hugh Laurie. Brilliant physical humor that makes the widest punch look like a lethal blow.
Fry and Laurie were superb. My absolute fave Laurie character was Prince George in Black Adder. He was perfect for that role.
So well played. Incredible
Antidistinctlyminty ...
"Never mind the freaking sketch, that was too hard! That really hurt."
😂😂😂😂 Mr Nippl-e
Aww diddums
And don't forget that as well as being hilarious and a great actor, he has also rowed in the prestigious Oxford vs Cambridge boat race and recorded albums with his band!! Definitely a national treasure. Love you Hugh.
Yes. Hugh is ridiculously talented and diverse. Irritatingly he's also handsome and a really nice fella.
"Vince, run that tape, if you'd be so careful to do EXACTLY as you're told..." gold
These two along with Rowan are just magic! Perfect physical and lyrical comedy.
I loved the barman and sole customer routine where Stephen presents items of food and drink at strategic moments when Hugh's complaining about his wife. Classically brilliant!
Note that Fry, an out gay man, had no problems with material most would call homophobic.
@@brianthomas2434 cos the man's an absolute legend who can appreciate humor
yes! One of the funniest sketches I've ever seen, Ronnie Barker would have been proud of that one
@@brianthomas2434making jokes about yourself is not the same thing as making them about someone else
7:28 "Nevermind the frigging sketch! That was *too **_hard!_* That really hurt..."
😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
They didnt even use a slapstick for the actual slapstick, this is part devotion and part well-abused trust.
i loved the bit “whats your address” and the slapping/punching on the face with police officer at the station, that was so good 😂
Hugh Laurie is an example of a quadruple threat: actor, comedian, writer, and musician.
Quintuple threat actually. Also a very hot guy
Hugh laurie so naturally funny. So talented
NO. Laurie NEEEEEEEDS a capital L. And that eternal DOT at the end of your comments, it would be highly appre
ciated.
I feel so bad for the teacher. He's trying so hard, bless him
Fry and Laurie so good together 😂
I’m guessing you’ve already watched all of Jeeves and Wooster
@@AlphaGeekgirl oh yes, fabulous, Jeeves saved him from many a carbuncle didn't he 😆😂
"The name of Dave Wilson will be familiar to anyone who knows it" 😂
The best was in Black Adder 3, “I’ve met my fair share of saucy girls in my time, but none have ever let me penultimate them in their solar sojourn, or given me the Norman tongue, for that matter”.
Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were an absolutely genius comedic pairing, one of the best ever.💯
I love the trip he took around the American South to highlight the music. He's a special talent.
Hugh Laurie is one of those actors and comedians who, when he stands on his own, is absolutely brilliant. But he has obviously not let this dominate his performances nor his ego. When bouncing off others he is often even more funny than when on his own, and he knows to pair his own skills with those of others and get something out of it that is often simply pure genius.
His pairings with Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson are a lasting testament to this. If I had my way these three blokes would be the faces depicted on the various denominations of the pound bill.
The scene with Stephen Fry as Wellington is one of my all-time favourites from Blackadder. Another is when Prince George refers to using lads like Pitt the Younger as a toast rack. Pitt's line is, I think, one of the funniest in the entire series. "Once it was I who stood in a big, cold schoolroom, a hot crumpet burning my cheeks with shame." 🤣🤣🤣
The punch line for the vet sketch KILLED.
Hugh Laurie has an excellent way with falling. God the man can fall!
True story. Was in Seattle (city in Washington State, USA) dealing with an American over a counter. Somehow the show House came up, and the USA citizen told me that the first time she saw Hugh Laurie outside of the show was on some televised awards show. She found him amusing because he spoke all the way through the awards show with a British accent. It wasn't until much later she found out he was British, and that was his natural speaking voice.
Hugh Laurie is a genius
I love Hugh in Blackadder. What a boss!
The Opera Winfrey bit was extremely brilliant! 😆
"Sir, It's willing suspension of disbelief!"
"Well, I'll not be having anyone staring in disbelief at my willy suspension!"
That might have been the best word play I've ever heard.
You REALLY need to listen to more BBC radio comedy. Round the Horne is pure genius. I'm sorry I haven't a clue is better. And I'm sorry I'll read that again. Maybe you're not that great of a fan of word play
@@zapkvr ooooo! I love all those!! I discovered them ages ago via the internet. I live in the states but BBC is my favourite radio to listen to, I stream some every day.
@@zapkvr How can a comment about comedic wordplay be this self-important and belittling? The fact that you listen to radio comedy does not make you better than anyone; grow up.
@@zapkvr - Your comment started off in a helpful vein but swiftly swerved off the tracks into nastiness. Why?
@@zapkvr haha what a turd!
British Humour - the best! So subtle, and clever. Cheers,…..
Such a versatile career, still going strong.
Only a true comedian could have made the character of Gregory House so engaging; Hugh Laurie is brilliant, regardless. Everyone from Blackadder is brilliant, honestly, especially Tony Robinson (Baldric); I know of him from Time Team, because I'm a bit of a history and archaeology nerd 😸
Stephen Fry is the perfect mix of everything English....an utterly brilliant mind but you'll never see him showing off...other than in a comedic way when he displays his amazing mind.
British comedians, there's no other that come close!
I will always know Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster waaaaay before I ever saw him in House.
Yes Hugh Laurie is a very funny man. So good that I was really surprised when he did House. Turned out he's just as good dramatically and musically. Great jazz man.
Hugh Laurie is such an amazing singer too
I adore him. I’ve seen him in Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster and anything I can get my hands on. He’s brilliant.
have you watched House?
Hugh Lurie in Blackadder and jeeves and wooster were his best Both legend A Great Actor
I love British humor! They have their own definitions and can get away with it!
Fry and Laurie. Such a great team!
31:27- THANK YOU, Clover, for putting US out of our misery. 😂😂
My son is just a younger Hugh Laurie, in personality and looks, its uncanny..and he loves being on stage and making people laugh. He's in Germany doing an electrician apprenticeship, I watch HOUSE so I don't miss him so much :)
ah, an Ausbildung! viel Erfolg to him as we say here :^)
What an absolute Gem of a Trio... Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie & Rowan Atkinson are true geniuses of their profession..
They cannot be beat in Blackadder " . Classic laugh your ass off comedy .
Wow, I only know Mr. Laurie as Dr. House. I had no idea he was this accomplished. He’s brilliantly funny!🍻
I only know him as a comedian and musician never seen House😃
@@LeeDon76 I love how we can both know a thoroughly accomplished and versatile actor, for completely different reasons, lol
Take care Jonell👋🏻
@dayone - He's also known in the USA for movies like "101 Dalmatians" where he plays a puppy-napper, the "Stuart Little" adopted daddy, "The Flight of the Phoenix", and "Tomorrowland".
I love showing house fans a bit of fry and Laurie
Comedic and dramatic actor, and damn fine musician too.
Is there anything that Hugh Laurie can’t do? Amazing person. Amazing talents. He can even fall down!
Romeo and Juliet sketch is just your average English teacher, stumbling through a lesson 😂
29.46- “Don’t say it again” cracks me up every time. 😂😂😂
Anytime I'm having a bad day I'll come back and watch these gems! I'm sure my neighbors will love hearing my wild cackling! 🤣🤣🤣
Sadly this omits his definitive rendition of Bertie Wooster
Such a shame as his Bertie Wooster was hilarious!
@Hugh Oxford - "Jeeves and Wooster" appeared in the USA on Public Television, but it was many years ago, decades maybe.
His best role.
I grew up watching this (on reruns) but I still think of him as House while watching this now. That's how perfect he was for that role. Thank god Dennis Leary didn't get the part.
The character of House was born way long ago before House M.D was even created.
He's a great actor. Terribly funny and very sinister.he does both so convincingly. Wonderful musician too. I hate him and love him.
@2gooddrifters - You are so right. It is hard to reconcile that Gregory House and Stuart Little's father are the same actor. House would probably use his cane to crush Stuart's spine.
@@MossyMozart Not before finding out where it nested to clean that up as well, to prevent an outbreak of lupus ofcourse.
The Oprah one had me in stitches! Everyone needs a Little bit if Fry and Laurie. I miss this show....🤣😅🤣😅
I didn’t know Hugh Laurie was a comedian. He’s definitely got that classic British humor that I enjoy (I’m American). Looking back on House clips I can see that he used his comedian history to help with some little jokes here and there.
Out of all the famous footlight comedians he's got to be the best.
love British humor .. from someone staying in the US .
I love Hugh Laurie!
4:10 one of the all time greatest comedy sketched ever along side The parrot shop, Going for an Englaish, Two Soups and Fork Candles,

That English teacher skit still hits a bit too close to home
As someone who was studying to be an English teacher until I realised I'd rather eat my own eyeballs than spend the rest of my life in school, I have to agree.
Hugh Laurie is a blessing upon this world.
Wonderful singing voice. Funny lyrics but some how it makes me want to dance 💃🏼
4:18 is a masterpiece of fiscal comedy
I never knew he was such a bloody gifted person. All I ever saw him in was House.
You should watch the wonderful series of Jeeves & Wooster. Laurie is one hell of a great musician too.
He was a respected British comic long before House. I'm always amazed he's not a bigger star than he is.
I want these days back.why we can't have comedy anymore is beyond me.
Sooo Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand, Sarah Millican, Jimmy Carr (English ones off the top of my head) aren't edgy and say offensive shite? LMFAOOO Then branch out to Scotland and try Frankie Boyle if you think those others are tame hahaha
When did comedy leave? Listen to some James Acaster or 8 out of 10 cats!
Name sir? Nippl-e....... Good timing, Dave Wilson's school of football. Brilliant. The bishop and the warlord.......each sketch better than the last. Great stuff. 😀👍✌️❤️
Love that Baldric's now Sir Tony Robinson!!!
And yet for me (since I don't watch a lot of TV)..... it took me years to put 7 and 4 together and realize that House was the same Hugh Laurie I knew from Black Adder.
There's humor, then there's British humor.
Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry Forever !!!
