Karma explained - 1: What is karma?

  • In this video, Dada explains the basic mechanism behind the Universal Law of Cause and Effect. He makes a distinction between the commonly understood word “karma” (action) and the actual resultant effect of the karma known as samskara (the potential reaction which eventually expresses from the original action).
    The universal law of Cause and Effect not only operates in the physical world but it also operates in the mental world. It helps to explain why certain things occur in our lives which we don’t understand why.
    Dada explains how the function of the indirect will assists us to reap the consequences of actions that we have performed before as ordained by the Cosmic Law. He warns us that a proper reaction to the expression of the previous action is necessary if we are to break the unending chain of action and reaction.
    Dada helps someone who may be enjoying the fruits of their good actions but cannot understand what more profoundly enjoyable experiences lie beyond the mere reactions of previous positive actions. That it is the characteristic of the mind to seek the state of unending happiness as is the nature of the consciousness within us.

As such, I am able to immediately relate my thoughts and actions to the yogic principles that you describe, almost as if I am receiving exactly what I need at that time to learn and grow. Seek, and the Universe provides. I look forward to this series of videos and all of the wisdom contained within. Peace

    A really lucid explanation of karma and how it effects outward/world and inward/mind. this is why doing something 'bad' intentionally leads to bad karma but if you do it unintentionally (like a cat eating meat, not knowing about effect on animal) there is no karma for the cat. maybe this is too simplistic, and maybe the cat will pay for this karma in future lives, but it still puts my mind at ease to think this way. so that way if i accidentally step on a bug i'm not going to suffer beyond seeing my mistake, feeling for the bug's loss of life, and blessing the bug.

So, the break begins and I walk near him and greet the guy with a handshake without a feeling of control over what i am doing. Got ill, but treated the illnes as a lesson to be more aware and treat my health more carefully.

    Furthermore I have a question, i don't know if it is the right video to ask about this subject in the comment section but as we are talking about consequences of our action, I would like to ask, is it possible that, when I had to break up with someone that I felt was bad for me, right in my guts, like I had to do it, and then really few times after I have done it, my life felt much better inside me and outside myself, I had very good news and all the things I was worried about started to resolve themselves, I don't know if that is related or not

    Namaskara Dada, This is one of the great videos on Karma theory. Greatly explained andI enjoyed every part of it. Eagerly waiting for the next part.
    @48:36 You have mentioned one of my favorite Subashitas.
    Just as an info for others who do not know this, I give below the complete Subashita and its meaning.
    "Vayamiha parithustaha valkalaihi, tvam dukuulaihi.
    samaiva partihoshaha naiva sheso visheshaha.
    Sahi bhavathi daridraha yasya trushnaa vishaala.
    Manasicha parthushte ko arthavan ko daridraha"
    This is from Barthruhari's Shatakatraya. Story of a king asking a poor looking sanyasi (Ascetic) what he wants. The sanyasi says he does not want anything from king for which the king gets offended.
    Then the Sanyasi says,
    "I am happy with clothes made of raw fibers, and you are happy with rich clothes.
    Our happiness is same, nothing short and special.
    He is poor who has big desires in him.
    If one is satisfied in mind, who is poor and who is rich??"

    Dada, I wish to express a great and tremendous appreciation for you and all your efforts, and everyone at Meditation Tips. Thank you, deeply snd sincerely 🙏
    Now, my question.
    I had a significant realization, I guess it could be called, whilst listening. I have been aware of most of what you've said, for many years, but suddenly I realized, I could see clearly, that everything, every little thing, that is part of the circumstances of my life, is samskara. The clothes I am wearing, the tea I am drinking, the state of my hair, the place I am in, all of it, is samskara. So my question.
    Is there anything that exists, within the circumstances of our lives, that is not samskara? Anything other than, our eternal nature / our innermost, and I would assume, the natural laws, etc. furthermore, do I experience, soley the samskara of others, which is not connected to my own?
    If you respond, thank you very much and if not, thank you also.
    May you be blessed and filled with love and light. Namo Buddhya. Namaste. 🙏
    -CB

    I learnt third eye meditation from you tube from some youtuber, who said that you need to focus on third eye so intensily an then your third eye will open

    But dada really this was the worst action i do

    And i cant sleep at night
    And i cant focus on breath
    And i cant do something with concentration

    It's hard distinguish the want of ice cream for example as samskara or karma... And it's hard say what is really good or bad for us, like we get pleasure with a big price after or get pain to get a kind of pleasure after. Thanks for the video Dada, but that discussion it's very confuse to me haha. Namaskar!

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps  Před 4 lety +1

      Very simple! The desire is created by samskara. We do not actually have desire for the object, we aspire to achieve peace by removing the samskara. Once the samskaric thirst is quenched, we finally feel at peace, until a new samskara surfaces.

    Hello Dada, thank you for reading and responding to questions here in the comments. I hope you will consider mine: as I have been engaging with the practices of meditation as you describe, I often become overwhelmed with crying toward the end of the videos. Do people often cry, when they feel the sweetness of Namaskar? It is simply that word which brings me to tears, but I linger on a concern about where my tears are coming from. I wonder also if this emotional 'welling up' can be managed so that my attention to meditation is less hinged on specific feeling? I appreciate all that is provided by this channel. In gratitude.

      You have a soft heart and sensitive mind. It is a very natural thing to be overwhelmed wiith emotion when coming in touch with spiritual energy. In time your nervous system will become more accustomed to it, it will not happen so much. In meditation, keep your self on mantra, do not stray and go after the feeling, try to maintain the ideation of consciousness and love towards It.

      1. Change your understanding of concentration. It is a relaxed awareness and not forceful action. When concentrating, you observe your mind and when the mind has strayed, gently and patiently return it to the mantra and the ideation.

    Also, suppose if I cry due to some reason, does that mean I'm creating new sanscara/action?

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, this craving is the result of accelerated samskara expression. It is also a result of movement of pranaha through sushumna nadii while cakras are not sufficiently strong. As we develop our cakras we are able to channelize our simple desire to the nobler expressions of the mind. Keep practicing.

I'm Russian speaking but living in the States, so grateful for the chance to share your teachings with mom and friends there and my loved ones here. Namaskar

    So dada, the people who do only good actions, have good intentions have only good life? They don’t have sorrow?

      Yes. But the fact is that in our past we have been less developed and conscious, so we have violated the natural laws many a time.

    Namaskar Dada, Thank you for all the efforts put by you and your team in sharing this wisdom. Could you please answer: Can find out whether the disease one has is karmic or not? And can kriyas worsen the symptoms and increase suffering by burning out the karma faster? I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease with symptoms under control through allopathy, but after I practiced the kriya taught by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev of Isha Foundation, my symptoms worsened and I have not been able able to control it through modern medicine (it might just be coincidence that the end of 40 days of doing the kriya twice roughly coincided with my problem increasing). Going through a rough phase since more than a year, I just dont want to create excess karma while experiencing this phase. Thank you once again!

      Yes, it looks like a strong samskara, and it maybe accelerated by practice. In the next video, I will be explaining, how do we overcome the samskaras. It is important to take shelter in real Guru, before you start to practice.

      @@MeditationSteps Namaskar Dada, I have an unavoidable query related to Kundalini and problem mentioned in above comment, so this platform may not be suitable for asking. Is it possible to get in touch with you through an email id? Or can i ask here? I really need some guidance and do not know of many people who can help.
      Thank you

    When I sit in meditation I am not going into the half sleep state which is my most blissful state during meditation but I am worried with thoughts and the thought branches out to various thoughts and I loose my mantra... How to gain my half sleep during meditation with awareness... I meditate twice a day

      Do kiirtan and lalita marmika before the meditation practice, it should help.

      @@MeditationSteps I started Elementary Philosophy and did not complete because I cannot understand. To what extent do you believe in the miracles performed by Baba? Also, why is there such an emphasis on battling the world from such a spiritual organization? Hasn't the world invariably become worse since the creation of Ananda Marga? I refer to corporate control, environmental/chronic health issues. And, when I look at Baba, I see an old fat man who looks like Danny Devito. Isn't one supposed to look at a guru and feel bliss? I do enjoy very much the philosophy though. This channel is on point : )

    If someone hurts you and then you hurt other people (not the one that hurt you) how can you cancel the hurt you've caused others?

    • @MeditationSteps
      @MeditationSteps  Před 4 lety

      It will not cancel, it will create another reaction in the mind. The neutralization happens when you experience opposite reaction directed to yourself, pleasant or painful.

    Why are Christians against Yoga and Astrology? Im just curious as Astrology and Yoga is an ancient knowledge. I am aware they say it is Demonic and I can see how bad energies enter these things... if you are lacking in the knowledge.

    Karma;
    A reflection of the Perfect Balance of the Universe in each and every unique moment of Existence!
    Suffering;
    the liking and not liking of the inevitable!
    'Cause and effect' is an explanation of an illusion! Nice dama, but fiction.
