I swear that this movie needs a The Motion Picture Director's Cut 4k style release by adding deleted character centric scenes that would make this movie far more decent to watch , because I realize how awful this movie was trimmed but it doesn't mean I hated this movie , no its just needs more good moments between characters since this is TNG's final outing !
Please we had enough of this movie already. No one needs to see more of its
@@octagonseventynine1253 I may dissgreed with you but this movie needs a correction if old The Motion Picture can have a Director's Cut , this movie should , I rather pay full price for it !
To this day whenever I watch this movie, the scene where the crew pays tribute to Data always brings tears to my eyes.
EVERY DAMN TIME!
Data’s death isn’t canon
same
@@Michael.Eddington Sure it is, now they can film The Search for Data.
I literally started to whistle Pop Goes The Weasel when Riker was trying to remember the tune Data was attempting to whistle when they first met.
2 things: 1. Stuart Baird went back to being an editor, he never directed anything again.
2. The seat belt chair from the deleted scene was reused for Enterprise as the new chair Trip built for Archer, he even points to the “seat belt” button and says something to the effect of, “Whatever you do, never push this button.” 😂
I remember asking for an early release from work back in 2002 for a dentist appointment with Dr. Nemesis. No one questioned the request and I left early for the first showing. I should have actually went to the dentist instead.
I hope your teeth are ok.
“She’s a predator” still gives me chills! Also, the D'deridex class is still my favorite, but I did like the sleek Valdor class in Nemesis.
Well said line. Shinzon was a medicore villain with crappy lines, but the actor did a great job with what he was given.
8:08 a crossover with Voyger and DS9 would have been amazing!!! But it would have to be 3 hours long with that many characters aaaannnnndddd I'm okay with that.
Its a shame the seat belts scene was cut. In Broken Bow, when Enterprise first goes to warp, Hoshi tells Archer "you may want to recommend seat belts when we get back to Earth." That final "about time" line would have linked what was, for a while, the earliest and latest points of the canonical Trek timeline.
Funny enough, the chair from that cut scene with seatbelts went on to be the command chair installed in the NX-01 for Enterprise season 4.
@@Decipher13 now thats a nice fact I hadnt noticed.
Scenario: none of the drinks available at the bachelor party are sufficient, so a Gorn starts climbing around in the orchard looking for fruits to juice. The guests include three Andorians, two Tellarites, and a parched Gorn in a pear tree.
Good one!
The "about time" is actually a lot cleverer than that when you realise it was coming out the same time as Enterprise Season 1 Episode 3 in which Hoshi famously says "didn't they think to put seatbelts on these things?" Anyone who's ever served in the military (regardless of country) will appreciate the fact that it took over 200 years for Hoshi's suggestion to go up the chain of command and EVEN THEN it only applied to the Captain.
The cut ending with Madden taking the place of Number 1, the final line of "It's ..... where no one has gone before" from Picard was just perfect, yes the "Blue skies" ending with B4 was a bit tear-jerking, and of course was the precursor to STP, but, thse few words, they brought back that sense of adventure in Picard's eye in that scene, no borg, no dominion, no "brushfires" to put out, just a pure moment of, let's see what's out there... :)
Oh, a crossover film would possibly have been amazing, perhaps!
I always wanted a sequel with Q and maybe doing something with the death of Jack Crusher that would give Picard and Bev the closure they need to hook up
It's interesting how our views of movies change over time; when I saw this as a teenager, I didn't think too much of the plot shortfalls; my friends and I talked about the battle intensely. Now, I'm looking for depth and emotion. Also interesting how it was placed between so many box office busters, that's indeed a reason why it didn't do as well as predicted.
I loved insurrection, so slow intellectual scenes weren't the issue, it was the crappy writing.
@@amehak762 Maybe Rick Berman should have agreed to Nick Meyer's terms.
I always wondered why the Romulans picked Picard to clone. Its not mentioned in the movie but in the novelization Dr Crusher mentions that Shinzon was created around 25-30 years before which means Picard was not in command of the Enterprise D and was possible still on the Stargazer and wasn't a prominent figure in starfleet at that time so why did they pick him? This always stood out to me whenever I watched this movie until I read a theory somewhere online that it was possible the Romulans found out about Picards future prominence from the alternate timeline Tasha Yar from the episode "Yesterdays Enterprise". Shame they didn't include this in the movie as it makes sense of the story.
Because Sela told them to. She told the Romulans, or the Tal Shiar themselves how pivotal Picard would be, based on the stories her mother told her.
@@1978rharris Oops. i was about to say the same but you beat me to it. 😁 Imo that theory should be canon.
That fan theory should have been canon. It would have given Nemesis connective tissue to the rest of TNG.
@@Kylea1979 For that matter they should have just scrapped Shinzon and made Sela the villain instead.
I remember going on a date to go see this movie. When the movie was over we both really loved the movie. I was so excited also when it came out on DVD. I know the movie has its problems.. but I still really enjoy it.
I read a leaked script of Nemesis about two or three months before it was released, so I went into the movie fully aware of what it would be. My dad took me, I was a freshman in high school (about 14) and, to be honest, I really enjoyed it. I recognize the film has problems, but it was good fun and I still to this day have a cinematic movie poster from the film framed on my wall. I think part of why I still enjoy it is really because I had a good experience seeing the film more than the quality of the film itself.
It is disappointing that the potential TNG/DS9/VOY crossover film was scrapped due to the poor box office performance of Nemesis. But with season three of Picard coming early next year, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll sneak in a number of surprise cameos from DS9 and VOY.
DS9 wise I hope we at least get to see O'Brian again....seeing as he started on TNG, it would feel a little odd to not get at least a small cameo. On the Voyager side of things, I'd love to see Seven reunite with Naomi Wildman and the EMH as well as at least finding out how far Harry managed to climb the ranks ( hopefully he's captaining a ship by now...poor man outright saved Voyager on so many occasions but never got promoted above ensign in the entire 7 year run of Voyager... )
I never noticed his nose before but now I will never be able to unsee it. Thanks.
Star Trek: Nemesis is my NUMBER ONE favorite Star Trek movie out of all of them.
Since we're getting Picard season 3, it would be cool if they canonized the deleted scenes from Nemesis as "off-screen" events. At the very least, we could get an explanation for why seatbelts/harnesses aren't common on ships in the franchise (I think it could be explained away that they could malfunction and become death traps for those strapped in to one).
I like this explaination. I think they could have included a line like this in the last season when showing off the La Serena to the 21st century people. It would have fit perfectly.
In the event the ship's inertial dampers were to fail in space... at the speeds the ship travels any sudden change in direction or velocity would kill everyone aboard. So seatbelts are only useful in the rare instance of extremely low speed accidents AND failure of the dampers..
The simple explanation is that this ship is so massive that seatbelts and harnesses won’t do much, look at contemporary ships, from channel crossings ferries, to cruise ships, to even modern warships that are expected to take some jarring hits, and none have seat belts or harnesses. In fact, on most warships, the majority of stations are standing and not sitting. This could be because ships crew need to be mobile, especially in battle, which would be constrained by seatbelts.
If your intertial dampers fail, all a seat belt would do is extrude you like spaghetti.
I also saw Nemesis in the cinema and i quite liked it. It had some flaws hear and there & i did expect a bit more, especially for a last Star Trek movie, but all in all, at least for me, it was okay (7.3/10) ps.: I didn´t even know that Ron Perlman, aka Hellboy played the Viceroy, 2nd in command to Shinzon.
I didn't hear any flaws.
@@GabePuratekuta Nice.
A crossover movie between all three franchises would have been UH-mazing! I am deeply saddened we never got to see any DS9 on the big screen. I understand it, but still-TNG, DS9, and VOY stopping some cosmic threat!?!!?
I've always loved this movie since I saw it in the theater. Don't understand the hate. Way better than the most recent movies. I even loved insurrection a lot. I thought they both had everything essential to star trek.
I'm not going to lie when I first saw the Enterprise D I cried...so many childhood feels
The final battle between the Semitar and The Enterprise had me thinking, why doesn’t the crew find away to use the phasers to pass along the some charge on to the shields so they could track it.
Yeah. Like Voyager somehow managed to rig their phasers and torpedoes to upload nanoprobes. Surely Picard and crew couldve laced their phasers to deposit a radiation and detectable signature on the Scimitar.
I don’t know why you are so hard on Nemesis! I loved it!
If you notice Picard's new Captain's chair was used on Star Trek: Enterprise in season 4.
It would have been cool for Levar to get the nod for the Director's chair. He certainly would have earned it.
I did not know most of that. It does rather put things in context. Thank you.
For me this is the second best Trek movie, right behind VI. Other than the out of character dune buggy scene at the beginning, this is pure Trek at its finest.
I've made this comment on a number of videos, but it still rings true for all of them. I enjoyed this movie when I first watched it, but it does not hold up to repeated viewing.
i enjoyed it - and over time have grown to like it as the movie - ends on a stunning moment...
TNG, DS9 and Voyager all in one movie would have been awesome and perhaps surpassed First Contact.
It may have garnered a lot of hate but I loved this movie! I would have loved to see the planned sequel with the “handover” to DS9/Voyager!
It wasn't awful but we all have really high expectations especially after first contact. What I never got was how he had a British accent.
The space battle stuff in the nebula is really good.
And I was wowed by the Argo.
I really love what STO does with the Remans
The captains chair with the seat belts from that deleted scene, reappeared in the final season on Enterprise as Archers new captains chair 😁
I love this movie. But then again, I love all of them. Even The Motion Picture and The Final Frontier.
I still think that among this film's many issues, one of them no points out is that it feels like an attempt to use Wrath of Khan's plot two main plot points. A villain with a past connection to the captain (Khan with his history with Kirk, Tenzan being a clone of Picard) fueling their villain plans, and a major sacrifice in order to save the day (Spoke dying to get warp core started, Data dying to destroy the ship).
And yet NO ONE mentions that Ron Perlman was the Reman Viceroy! I'm on the rare side in that I don't think its a terrible entry into the Star Trek movie franchise and as Sean said, it was up against HUGE other releases, maybe not Maid in Manhattan, but still a 6.5/10 movie.. For me, Insurrection and Nemesis are about on par of each other.
but yeah, too many light hearted moments left on the cutting room floor.
Man, that sequel would have been awesome, just for the sheer scope of it. My heart sinks thinking about what could have been.
Can't unsee the lionfish now in that ship... :D
What a great video ❤️👍🏽😎
In hindsight, a rewrite by Nick Meyer would have been a good idea.
Yeah, both 2 and 6 were solid Gold, so yes Berman, let him rewrite! Stupid Berman!
I wish they would have made that last film. After all my two favorite trek shows are ds9 and voyager… in that order
Damn it, that fifth film sounds like it would have been a blast.
I remember very clearly that Nemesis got almost NO advertisement. I never saw a preview, didnt even know it was coming out until about a week before it did. All the others always had a good marketing campaign but Nemesis just sort of came out of nowhere.
6:14 - “Argh! Gorn wedding! GORN WEDDING!!!”
I remember Nemesis getting so much hate but I liked it. It's been at least a decade since I watched it so it's due for an updated review.
Release the Burton Cut!
I'm glad Lower Decks had a quick reference to a Gorn Wedding
Always remember that nemesis robbed us of the movie where captain insaneway brought her change 20 years of history just cus she could, made fear itself feel afraid, Borg collective killing self and a Voyager full of delta quadrant tech back to space jesus and Picard to hook up the defiant and enterprise with enough toys to take down the entire dominion by themselves and all the great story/action pieces involved
Nemesis was one of those films that made everybody angry. Some felt Picard should have died, others felt they should go find Data's parts. That film left me going what the f**k where they thinking.
They should have left that in the improvise 1:14! I did notice they were tearful at the end! I am a fan of the Star Trek Franchise, and believe they should've left it without a retake.
Still love you Nemesis, despite all your faults. Live long and prosper.
Great Video, are you going to do 20 things you don't know about Star Trek 2009 next?
I would like to see a video on the careers of each crew member. how there career's progessed did they end up as Admrals? retiring, making wood fire pizzas.
This is the only Trek movie I didn’t see in the theater (I saw it on VHS!). A cut by another director would be welcome! Frakes? Burton? Anyone…anyone…?
I've seen that deleted scene. It was on the Epix channel when they aired it before Paramount took all the movies back.
Also, I'm kind of glad there wasn't a film with all 3 Star Trek Cast, It would kind of ruin DS9 because Picard was never around to save the day in the big fleet battles with a Sovereign.
I love Trek Culture!
Man that proposed sequel sounds awesome
Is intro perfectly sums up the force awakens too lol
I think I read somewhere where the captains chair in the deleted scene is the same one on the NX Enterprise.
I may be in the minority but Star Trek Nemesis is one of my favorite TNG movie it fit the times.
We need a show about the USS TITAN please A.S.P.
2:49 basically invisible??? It was EXTREMELY noticeable in cinema. The top part of his nose especially.
It's such a shame, cause I kinda like the movie, there is so much potential in it, but it just didn't get the love it deserved.
Imagine what it could have been if LeVar had been allowed to direct it insted. His track record as a director was amazing, and the cast enjoyed having him in the directors chair, so no doubt they could have made a way better product then what we ended up with.
Also think one of the biggest issues with the movie not making a lot of money in the box office is that, at least for me, there wasn't a lot of theaters showing it. I love in Denmark, and we usually have hundreds of theaters across the country showing every Star Trek since Nemesis. Yet Nemesis was only released in 5 theaters in total. If you want your movies to make money at the box office, you need to make sure you can actually watch them. I know some of the other Scandinavian countries were also struggling to get access to the movie in theaters. I would have loved to see this one on the big screen, yet I never got the chance.
There is an alternate take of the scene where Picard looks at his academy photo. It shows his younger self with a full head of hair, rather than the bald version in the final scene.
In the episode Tapestry, Picard had a full head of hair. In the flashback where Picard brought back the body of Jack Crusher, he still had most of his hair. This is just sloppy attention to detail.
@@brianrandall7329 I agree that they were implying that Picard was naturally bald at a young age, and that's pretty dumb considering his hair in the TV show.
But, its also entirely possible that he simply shaved his head from time to time as a young man and let it grow out at other times, which is just him choosing a hairstyle.
Funny: I had the same situation sitting in the cinema with a friend and asking in the end "what was that???"-
That last one hurts a lot a 3 way cross over would have been epic. Altho I don't know that they could have pulled off enough screen time for everyone
I think this film is better than most people give it credit for. It's no classic & First Contact is the definitive NG movie but it's very watchable and a decent movie especially considering all the problems it had in it's making.
This movie is the cancer that killed the Next Generation films.
This was the first trek movie I actually got to see at Cinema. I still enjoy it. Killer soundtrack. The visuals aged pretty nicely. Bit of a silly story. Although I think the best part of Nemesis coming out was all the game mods that altered the Sovereign Class to be even more overpowered to match its' appearance and performance in Nemesis, Lol.
I actually really liked it. No, it’s not Wrath of Khan or First Contact, but it is mostly a good time.
Thanks.
I wish they had left point #10 in. It really felt like good-bye for good.
I actually liked it the first time I saw it, but that could be because at that point I had been living under a rock, culturally, for about half a decade. I still remember it fondly, but I think that's because I've seen most, if not all, of those amusing deleted scenes and incorporated them into my recollection of the movie as a whole. In all seriousness, I still think it's at least as good as a run of the mill TNG episode, placing it better than The Final Frontier, Generations, or Insurrection.
TNG was the best series, shame it wasn't continued further
I like that for years people pretended this was better than 9 because that whole odd vs even argument.
Maybe I'm haviing a Mandela moment, but I could swear I remember the line about the Gorn at the wedding. As clear as day.
One if the rare good choices with this movie is cutting Madden scene because it is slap in face a new person becomes the first officer instead of Geordi or Worf
IIRC There was a Romulan War movie that had a script written, that was set after Enterprise that never went into production, because they opted for the JJ Abram's blockbuster pitch instead
What is even worse regarding having Baird directing is the reason WHY he was brought on. It was due to editing something substantial (i forget which movie) and that was it. So really, everything was doomed to fail the instant they brought on a "director" who didn't care about the material at all...
I watched it on video here in Australia and both of those deleted scenes were in the version I saw
Denise Crosby could easily played that Roman woman in this movie, it's absurd they never decided to include her!!!
I believe she wanted to be in the movie. Just another poor decision in the making of this mess.
I had heard with the plans for a sequel, while it was mainly going to be TNG/DS9/VOY, it would include the casts from Enterprise and TOS (With nods to TAS) as a thing to cover the entire thing early on...making it something that Archer and Kirk encountered that the later era captains would need to deal with.
Never heard that before. Only the TNG/DS9/VOY crossover has ever been mention.
@@1978rharris It may have been a different thing with it, but there had been talk about a Trek movie that was going to have things from all of it. The main part of the movie would be the TNG/DS9/VOY part, but would include the others as something with it...a thing of Archer and Kirk encountered something, but it's a problem at the later point of it.
I'd also heard of one using another Memory site where part of it would be Picard there due to a museum dedication to the adding the Enterprise D's stuff to it where there would be the NX-01 with a hologram of the crew stored on site, the A and B would be there, the 1701, C, and D would have other things about it there along with things from each ship.
@@AzraelThanatos so the movie version of the Star Trek Legacy game plot...
@@Robedon Not sure there, I just remember the bits of it from an interview or article around when the Reboot had it's first trailer. Different things that they couldn't get done before then.
Somehow both the scene with seat belts and the new number one sound familiar to me. Did they make it into some directors cut version afterwards?
You missed the gimble bridge, built after they saw it used on the Galaxy Quest bridge.
Admittedly, it's been years since I watched Nemesis, but I'd swear that the seatbelt scene was NOT cut from the final draft... since I remember seeing it!
Omg, #7 would have been seamless and the fans would have LOVED it.
Yep that opening description is me lol
The problem with nemisis is EVERYTHING was sacreficed on that 20 minute space battle!
A fine movie
A Film withe TNG, Voyager and DS9 Crews all in one?! Why did that never happen?! Thats sounds awsome as long as they get the script right!
I think it would be a fantastic idea, but the writing would be tricky. It's no secret that Patrick Stewart is in his 80s, and both Aron Eisenberg & Rene Auberjonois are dead. But having any appearance of canon DS9 crew would have to solve the mystery of Sisko's whereabouts.
I like Nemesis.
I must be the only one on the planet that liked Nemesis. I would have loved to see the film described at the end.
I always wondered why young Picard was bald as a cadet since we'd seen younger versions with hair. Such as Ensign Picard in Tapestry and the flashback in Violations when he and Beverly Crusher go to see Jack Crusher's body so it seemed odd. I know it was a little thing but it kind of bugged me.
Maybe some of the ideas from the scrapped movie will end up in Picard season 3. One can only hope!
I would say it was one of the best films with First Contact...It wasn't perfect but they did alright...They will remake it in a few years with a female Picard the way things are going haha
I really don't understand the vitriol many fans have for Nemesis. I felt it was a marked improvement over Insurrection.
