Idk why I love this episode so much. Most of the time popular CZcams don't feel so genuine but Mat and Steph just feel like that's really them.
08:35 The moment they said No.2 tasted like cough syrup, I knew it was the glass bottle coke.
Coke was originally created as a form of medicine back in the days, and thus, it wouldn't taste very good - unless you happen to be one of the ones that like that sort of thing.
They said earlier that the glass bottle coke creator hadn't changed their recipe since they started 100 years ago, that means it would still taste more like some kind of medicine than actual soda.
I was thinking the same thing esp. since original soda was seen as more of a ' health tonic'

It just double take, sometimes when you taste something and then change to something else the flavor can be bad, so you sample it again to see if it was just the difference in product or it just tastes that bad.
The reason why some food or even sweets taste so awful after you brush your teeth. Like when you drink Orange juice a few minutes after brushing your teeth in the morning.

Late to the party here, but at the start of this video my 1st thought was "I wonder if they'll take co-packing into account" and there, at the end, they did. It would be interesting if they compared processing/packaging. I live in Maine, where B&M Baked Beans ruled until the brand was bought out. Now the product is a pale shadow of what it was (runnier, slightly undercooked, sweeter). Anyone in the know knows to look for the few remaining cans made in Maine and to avoid those from NJ.

I've been all over. So my family really never had a singular word for all carbonated drinks. Sometimes we call it soda, usually if it's a non-cola, sometimes it's pop, but usually we just name the product.

My family has always gotten store branded sodas because they were normally cheaper, we’re on sale more often, and tasted the same or even better sometimes.

05:01 From the "This one is slightly sweeter" I could accurately tell that the middle one was bottled Diet Coke, the left (right for them) was can, and the "slightly sweeter" was the Dispenser Diet Coke.
Dispenser soda is a mixture between carbonated water and soda syrup, syrup has a more sweeter taste to it, especially if the mixing isn't as watered out as I am used to.
Bottled coke fizzes a lot, so that middle glass being the bottled coke was a no brainer.
Then that only left the canned coke.

The fact that he can differentiate between can and bottle when they aren't in those containers is impressive. I always assumed the different flavor was from my mouth touch metal versus plastic.
When it comes to Cola products I prefer cans. When root beer I prefer fountain.

@@taphoacuahang3577 true but I also take in the convenience factor of not having to deal with glass. Also fountain tends to have a random effect on flavor because variables such as: source of water, water to flavoring ratio, the carbonation level, etc. I like fountain mainly because most of the time it's slightly over carbonated relative to the other forms.
Oh i can tell too...however im shocked that he choose fountain.....can is the best bar none. The fizz is unbeatable from a can and has this distinct taste. Fountain is just too flat and "watery".
@@ariez84 On Diet Dr. Pepper, I prefer can. I can fit more in my mini fridge and it just tastes right. Bottle is second for taste and it's harder to knock over and spill. Fountain is sometimes just hard to find where I usually go.
As a grocery store employee I can confirm we actually often get items labeled for other stores and though they're all sibling companies we can't actually sell the product at all
In the case of soda, where the label is removable (because it's a physical sleeve, and not printed on the container), couldn't you just grab a pair of scissors, cut off the label, slap one of your labels on, and BOOM! Sellable soda!

usually the stores don't have "extra labels" so they wouldn't be able to do that. They also usually don't have a way to make a single individual label outside of like a standard print out on paper which then no one would buy unless it was discounted. Which at that point it would just be easier to send back with the next truck and have it delivered to the proper store or tossed if it's a perishable good.
Also a grocery store employee (specifically a stocker) I second this. I've had this happen to me more than once.

I was a food broker for many national brands. Many store brands are produced by the National Brands. some are exact replicas of the National brand and others are slightly different. All Frozen Chicken at Walmart and Sam’s Clubs are Tyson exact match’s, however Nestle Ice Cream makers of Haagen Daz will make private label brands but none will ever be an exact match for their Premium Brand formula.
