our ol’ pal Ness, from the FNAF movie, brought up an interesting question: is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? You see, loyal Theorist, breakfast companies have been LYING to you for decades and it has caused all of us to eat wrong for years. So how did that happen? And is “Big Cereal” really to blame for all of it?

It's nice to see the difference in cultures all over the world. I remember always getting confused in American movies when people would say breakfast is the most important meal of the day - in Brazil it was always lunch. True food, as we call: rice, bean, meat etc. I also got actually scared to learn people in the US have just half an hour of lunch in a work-day, we have at least one hour (some lucky people get even two!)
Now our breakfast (here called 'café da manhã'/coffee of the morning) is mostly composed of coffee, bread if you're hungry and... just it, probably. Personality, I just drink some chocolate milk because I got kids' taste and that's it.
And I actually laughed seeing the part about dinner, because for us it's literally what breakfast used to be. Just a snack, or the food we didn't eat in lunchtime. Or we repeat the food we ate for lunch, which I know now isn't really healthy.

It's the same for Poland (and possibly most of the slavic countries)! The midday meal has always been considered to be the most important one, so finding out that it's different for the English-speaking countries felt really strange.
In fact, the very name for this meal in Polish, "obiad", (supposedly) comes from the Polish verb for overeating/eating until you're full - "objadać się". It's not just the most important meal of the day, it's _the biggest_ one. Think of dinner, but instead of it taking place in the evening, it's during anywhere between 12PM to 4PM.
I wouldn't even call it lunch at this point, the difference between the meals is so vast that I'm not even sure how to translate it to English.

@@ShuichiSaihara05 That's so nice! I like the way that the name of your midday meal literally says it all. And I get that thing of not being able to translate this meal to English, when I was learning English, I'd be so confused by the word "lunch". Because here, "lanche" means a sandwich, or a hamburger - basically something that we would never have for our midday meal, but Americans might - the popular translation of "lanche" is snack here, even though I don't quite agree with it. I know it's not the same thing you described, just a fun story.

As MattPat pointed out he would get his staff to make him these sandwiches because he didn’t want to get the cards all gunked up from stuff like roast meats and condiments. Also didn’t mean he had to have plates and cutlery around to eat those items and generally had bread on hand anyway so he had them slice it and stack the stuff in between.

He probably didn’t have this video in mind, but he probably thought it up in that drafting room when it was suggested.

i have alot of issues sleeping, and when i heard that eating and your sleep are linked, i deep dived into alot of this kind of stuff, which is why i ALWAYS eat something when i wake up, cus it stops me from going back to bed any time during the morning or afternoon, and i wont get tired until later in the afternoon, where dinner will hold me over until i go to sleep. eating breakfast and dinner like that and sometimes lunch in the middle helps me sustain my sleeping hours and go to bed easier. so while lunch isnt exactly an important meal of the day for me, i did happen to learn about all this stuff :D

Not sure if there's any problems with this scientifically, but since your circadian rhythm is based off sleep patterns, you might be able to shift that ideal time to eat around by waking up and going to bed earlier/later. I personally wake up at 8:30 and eat most of my food at 6, but because I wake up and go to bed so much later than most people, that falls almost exactly in the middle of my waking hours, and in theory also within the ideal time to eat.

this video makes me feel better about my eating habits
my parents always say "don't skip breakfast" and "stop snacking so much" but im just eating at a time that's convenient for me
school starts at 8, and i usually leave around 7:10-7:15, so if i wake up at a comfortable time after going to bed at 11-12, then theres not too much time, not to mention being sluggish due to just waking up
plus, since lunch is at the same time every day where i don't have enough time for breakfast, even if i get a bit hungry, i don't need to worry about it. i'm getting all the food i need when i can get it.

Thanksss!!! Im so annoyed by people saying you should eat breakfast. And people who think if they get hungry or less productive if they dont eat breakfast, everyone does. Or you should eat all the time to avoid getting hungry :')
And you cant possibly eat dinner at breakfast!!! And the other way around (what i do as well).
Im one of those people who gets really hungry once i start eating, so making my eating window smaller works for me to NOT over eat, eating dinner at breakfast and the other way around makes me less hungry in the evening as well.
And i feel fine when not eating that often, better even than when i had food.
And after everyone saying what i experience cant be true cuz they dont have it this way. Its really refreshing to hear someone say everyone is different and that it works different for everyone :).
Something i have been saying for quite some time but the people around me just dont want to hear it cuz that is not what 'grandma/mom said'.

I'm from the UK and I have never heard anyone ever refer to lunch as "the midday meal". We do often refer to lunch as dinner though. Also I think siestas are more to do with avoiding the sun when it's at its most powerful and hard to work in, rather than because of food.

Finally someone talked about this. Here in egypt we eat the same kind of food (which is usually light) for breakfast and diner and have a big harty meal for lunch as we see it as the most important meal. I always felt wierd about how people eat through out the day in the west

I think it *depends* greatly on your lifestyle. A farmer/homesteader in pre-industrial times would find the breakfast -- which is *not* taken on rising, but after the first two hours of work -- is indeed very important.

It definitely depends on the person... I can't function without breakfast, just like my daughter, but it doesn't have to be big or heavy. My most substantial meal is midday and honestly I could get by with a snack for dinner. So overall I agree!

Me too! I get really weak my 9am if I don't eat breakfast... But then again, I'm usually up by 4am so maybe that's why? Maybe 9am is within my mid-day period because people wake up pretty early where I'm from.

    • @vtheory7531
      @vtheory7531 Pƙed 5 měsĂci +2

Totally agree, I like breakfast (not to mention the ritual of making and drinking coffee), but I prefer a lighter lunch and heavier dinner because I tend to crash if I eat too much in the middle of the day. And that's obviously not great for work productivity (and sadly my company doesn't allow siestas).
However maybe I can shift most of my calories to middle of the day by breaking them up into multiple meals. First lunch, second lunch and a snack maybe. Might try it.

We've cooked them all and none of us can agree we all love food theory and we try things yall do. So give me something to take to this year's debate!

I actually heard this from a teacher of mine, who would read us useless facts. The Earl of Sandwich actually invented this during a poker game he had with friends. He instructed his servants to place a slice of beef between two slices of bread. It became more conventional while his friends were asking for one as well. Doing this so the Earl doesn't dirty his hands or the playing cards. I forget the book he read it from, though.
