I don't really think they made a bad choice. I just think they totally ruined it with the way they wrote Sam in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Sam was always ready to step up and help Captain America in the previous movies, and then he was all moody and disillusioned, and that made no sense.

This has happened a few times with McDonald's toys based on Disney movies that have been pushed back. McDonald's plans everything around the earlier date, and can't alter their timeline just because Disney alters theirs. Disney has nobody to blame but themselves. They're the ones that establish the date in the original contract years ahead of time.
You'd think by this point the Clown would have learned that the Mouse is a poor partner.
The same thing has happened with toys they sent to Hasbro. But sometimes Disney invokes a contract clause forcing Hasbro to simply junk a product run.... after production. Apparently that doesn't work with McD's.
Disney/Marvel: "Our testing for this movie is terrible, better keep the PR in hand"
Marketing Dept: "Oh crap, there's been so many reshoots we forgot to change our deal with McDonalds!!"
The Audience: "Hahaha, it's just as lame as we thought it'd be!"
The fact that we are seeing leaks of Captain America Brave New World toys before we see Moana 2 toys shows me that Disney is scrambling. Management is loosing control.
This is yet ANOTHER result of the endless reshoot mentality at Marvel/Disney. If you have a script that works, the schedule for the toys works too. If not? Well, Marvel has already paid for the toys, needs them out there, AND might be rightly concerned that if they waited to put them out the negative reactions to the film could kill the demand--a position that already hurting McD's cannot risk.
While true, that also causes a collateral victim: toy manufacturer Hasbro.
As a matter of fact yes. McDonalds doesn't make the toys, once that schedule is set it doesn't change. If you want to cross promote your movie you can't be screwing around with the schedule. I believe this has happened before with McDonalds but I don't recall the movie.
It happened with Sonic 3 and Knuckles, resulting in the game being split in two so that Sonic 3 could release alongside the planned Happy Meal toys.
It happened with The Marvels.
This somewhat happened with Frito Lay and Wonder Woman 1984. Frito Lay had to release bags chips at a set schedule despite delays and reshoots of the movie. So I saw somewhat spoiler-y images on the packaging a good year before the movie’s eventual release. These studios and the companies have to get on the same page when it comes to marketing.

This happened with shang ci where the toys were already on clearance before movie came out due to delays, they never had a chance
I work at McDonald's and it's ridiculous; the Packaging says "Brave New World" but when putting the toy in the Happy Meal on the computer, the abbreviation changes to "Cap America NWO"...as in New World Order. As unnerving as the latter title is, I find it hilarious that it can't even be consistent for one second...even for McDonald's. There's also a second Falcon character who's now white I guess---and yes, the Red Hulk, along with some unknown girls called Diamondback and Ruth I think. I basically feel like Thanos at this point: _I don't even know who you are._
Ruth is Sabra from the comics… being referred to by her civilian name because Disney doesn’t want to ignite tensions between them and the ideologues beefing with a sovereign nation’s response to a certain organization’s attack against them.

Who the hell keeps thinking it's a great idea for a NORMAL HUMAN to try to be Captain America? I felt sorry for John Walker to be handed Cap's suit and shield and told "go get 'em tiger!". Insane. Bucky makes perfect sense to take up the mantle, if anyone, given his abilities. Knowing Disney, we'll get Captain Agent Carter somehow from the what if toon. So tired of ALL my favorite IPs being rendered worthless by truly talentless hacks, at all levels.

McDonalds didn't wait for a completed Sonic 3 video game. Doesn't surprise me they didn't wait for Marvel to even have a completed script... allegedly.
Pro tip, dont release your marketing until you have a FINISHED movie to release. If they didnt screw up so many times and had all the reshoots the marketing through mcdonalds wouldnt be an issue.
Plushies in a Happy Meal isn't underwhelming, it's STUPID. Plushies are absorbent. They suck up grease and sauces and soda. And worse, milk and you'll never get spoiled milk smell out of it.
Ex Stockholder for Mickey Ds here: McDonald's will not warehouse what has been already scheduled in advance. They did not do it for "The Marvels", but no one cared on that.
McDonald's shouldn't have to alter their Happy Meal release schedule just because Disney is incompetent and can't make movies anymore. McDonald's is a real business with business obligations, unlike the Bob Iger Company.

This can't be that big of a deal?! I mean, Marvel has done as much as it could to make itself as predictable as possible. All they have to do is announce the cast, and you could more or less predict how the project will go.
I think the bigger deal is the lack of a Winter Soldier toy. I had no idea that he wasnt in the movie.
This movie went from a maybe watch, to definitely not watching in theaters.

That whole happy meal mess reminds me a bit of the situation with Sonic 3 in the 90s, where Sega was forced to cut the game into two parts due to that promotion deal with Mc D.

Also this happened with Elio that went from this year to next year. Apple theaters didnt remove the poster for that movie until February. So by the time elio comes out it will feel very old. Dont know why it was delayed

McDonald's may not be as rich as Disney, but they've been around for a long time and are very smart when it comes to making deals. Most likely there is a contract that Disney signed which gave McDonald's permission to use certain images in their promotion. If Red Hulk was a part of that deal/contract, it's within their legal rights to showcase him. More than likely Disney slipped up and assumed that McDonald's would sacrifice their profits to make up for that slip up.
This is for the best, the sooner MC D purges the garbage, the better and happier kids will be, Disney screwed around and now they are paying the price for it!!
I don't know what else could be expected of McDonalds. They schedule these toyline things out pretty far. Expecting McDonald's to keep rearranging all their toys based on marvel spinning their wheels isn't fair.
Just guessing but McDonald's has a schedule to keep as well, they have to sell toys with the Happy Meals and once the previous contract times out they can't sell that toy anymore so they need to move to the next line of toys they have scheduled. McDonald's probably has the most of the power in this negotiation, there are tons of companies that want to put their kid's show toys into Happy Meals so I wouldn't be surprised if there are liquidated damages greater than the contract value itself if Disney wants to renege on the original term date.
In my opinion McDonalds is hurting with their raised prices and justifying surge prices. Customers are leaving them. They did this on purpose to get more action coming thur their doors. $$$ enough explanation
Marvel is toast as far as I'm concerned. They haven't had a decent product since End Game, and just before that they started to show signs of the stupidity that was to come. The only reason I'm here is because of the train wreck effect where it's almost impossible to look away, but if this were an article on an upcoming Marvel film, I would have passed on it.

Yeah, those fast food child's meal toy tie-in promotions get scheduled, in stone, well in advance. Disney can't produce a film on schedule? Not McDonald's problem. There's no one with a sense of cause and effect getting furious about it in 2024.
Don't know why this is news. This isn't the first time McDonald's has released an MCU movie's Happy Meal months before its release. They did this with The Marvels movie last year.

As for how it will be received? I picked up two Happy Meals yesterday for my daughter and her friend and after they ate their cheeseburgers, they both brought the "Captain Falcons" to me and said, "We don't want these". I took both of them and tossed them in the garbage and said to them, "Nobody wants these"....

They probably had a contracted time slot and the toys had already been made, and wouldn’t pay too store the toys. What would it cost McDonalds too store a run of happy meal toys?
Well you will know Disney is scrapping the bottom of the barrel if they bring in weapon H. (Weapon H is a dad character. It could have been a lot of fun if done right but they made major missteps with the character)
Spoilers aren't that bad, they give people anticipation, and let people know exciting events before thinking about getting invested. Saying "Dumbledore dies on page 596" doesn't make me want to skip the whole book, that's just silly, it makes me want to know what happens. The bad kind of spoilers are when you're in the middle of a show and someone spoils the conclusion from the next episode when you're ready to experience it.
The Mantle strategy came from Marvel and Capcom when they tried to replace Magneto and Sentinel.

Well, maybe they actually don’t care about it anymore. I mean now Coke has pictures of marvel characters like Deadpool, Elektra, Nick Fury, Daredevil, Colosus, Super Skrull, Wolverine, Blade, Moon Knight, Loki, Cable, Juggernaut, Captain Falcon whoops wrong name Captain America, Ironman, Thor, Black Panther, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Mrs. Marvel, Groot, Rocket, Scarlet Witch, Thanos, Black Widow, Shehulk, Doctor Strange, Shang Shi, Antman, and 2 characters that haven’t been wrapped around Coke yet. So, maybe McDonalds saw the marvel coke thing and saw Hulk in the coke red form and probably said, “Huh, guessing it’s acceptable to start selling red hulk merchandise.” Of course it’s just a joke but also it’s a way of life. No wait maybe I should retract my statement about the wrong name Captain America because Captain Falcon fits much more better with what I seen but of course that’s a Super Smash Brothers character.
