  • Bruce the shark is home after being installed at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, in Los Angeles.
Back in march 2018, The Daily Jaws reported ‘Junkyard Jaws’, the last known remaining original mould of Bruce the shark used in Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975), was to be restored by Greg Nicotero (executive producer, special effects make-up effects supervisor and director on The Walking Dead), and exhibited at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

It’s really cool that they restored the shark from Jaws. A little bit of film history has been resurrected for all to see.

Actually he's a copy. The studio thought that the movie was going to bomb so as soon as filming wrapped they destroyed all three filming models. This one never appeared on screen.

He really nailed this there will never be another film like this because the time it was filmed there was so much hard work and love that went into this film. Thanks for your love and dedication to this film.

WOW ! Fantastic vid Ross, Bruce restored to A1 condition.
Surprised this wasn't done years ago, surely people could've united on Martha's Vineyard itself ! Such a shame the ORCA wasn't kept intact, but hindsight's a wonderful thing.
Just shows what a classic movie it still is, nearly 50 years after it's release. Hopefully, thanks to Ian & Co making ' The Shark is Broken', bringing JAWS to the attention of a whole new generation, along with you guys at The Daily JAWS, the legacy is only getting strengthened !

The only non screen used Bruce. He will live forever. Legendary. Wonder how many people worldwide were afraid to go into the water ? Or bath. Or pool.

Yeah, I heard that about the restoration awhile ago, it's great to see this Greg interview. (I actually have a mini Bruce head that Greg was involved in making). They did a great job on the restoration (although you can see the difference from the original Bruce, but the resto looks slightly more realistic than Bruce himself).

My favorite movie of all time. I'm glad someone took on this project to restore the shark. I remember seeing the movie on the big screen when it came out. When my family vacationed at the Cape that year, nobody was going in the water. That's what an impact it had on people.

A little constructive criticism: I'm not crazy about the cut-aways to the questions (the blue, noisy question segments). Too startling, and a bit annoying and cheesy, TBH. Something more subtle would have been much better, maybe a fade to a black background with the questions in white lettering and no music, or more mellow Jaws music at a lower volume, for example. Thanks

I’m thinking about how you patched the bottom of the shark up because the bottom of the shark would of a hole in it so the mechanical stuff could get in

  • @TRHARTAmericanArtist

Jaws, the novel, was underwhelming. The plot was different and the characters not as appealing. The adaptation for the film was spot on. They kept the plot simple (no love triangles) which is why it was so successful. It was black and white, man vs. monster. I do recommend Benchley's book "Shark" which details his actual encounters with real sharks. It is informative and much more exciting having the knowledge that his experiences were real. As an former Museum preparator I appreciate the restoration of "Bruce". I would have loved to have been a part of it.

It's ironic, originally the shark was going to be seen much more, but the crew had continuous problems with the mechanics of the shark, Spielberg said it ended up working out better because we see the sharks perspective quite a bit, along with that legendary theme music that put you there in the water. To the crew Bruce was kind of a piece of crap.

Copy or not, it's nice to have a 'physical connection' to one's favorite film (or tv show). Cast from the same mould as the three originals, the lineage is there for authenticity and there is NOTHING more Iconic than the shark from JAWS! Everybody recognizes it. Kudos on a job (resto) well done and thanks for rescuing and preserving Bruce for all the fans of JAWS, past, present and future. Thanks, too, Academy Museum for making Bruce's display possible and it accessible to the public, for all to experience and enjoy. 👍🦈

Wondeer what he thinks of how much damage this movie did to how we view sharks. Don't get me wrong, Jaws is in my top three favorite movies of all time, but this is an issue. Sharks are not mindless demons who prowl the oceans looking to eat us. We just happen to be in their realm when they are feeding.

    • @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent
      @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent Před 10 měsíci

That's due to stupidity, from the viewers that freaked out about sharks. Many people that actually saw Jaws would however be fascinated by them and want to learn more about them. The fear of the Shark was by the same people that feared other people for being different, or a something they didn't understand nor want to understand.

  • @frankcarlo7
