  • New Boyd’s AT one stock on TC compass in 6.5 Creedmoor. Initial impression and why I think this is a winning combination for budget target shooting. If you are going to own one budget bolt gun The TC compass has everything you need except for upgradability, Boyd’s introduction of the AT one gives you a target/hunting stock with good feel and attractive profile that has the adjustability and solid foundation to push those groups together and put you on target fast.

    Cool vid. Last month, I got a TC Compass II in .308 Win but have not had a chance to shoot it, yet. But I have also been fixing it up. Empty and bare, it is 7 pounds. And I need it to be my light hunting rifle to drag on hikes, which is every hunt for me on public land. I was going to put on my Vortex Crossfire II 3-9 / 40 mm with the Dead Hold BDC reticle and that is a good scope. But I have grown so used to the Christmas tree reticle that I put on one of my Diamondback Tactical 6-24 / 50 mm FFP scopes I had from previous use on other rifles in my small collection.
    I put on a SilencerCo ASR 308 muzzle brake. A Falcon Strike hydraulic recoil pad system. The lightest web and rubber sling. And I did have to change out the weaver single piece mounts that the rings mount to and out in an EGW 0 MOA rail so that I could move the scope a bit more forward and get the right eye box for myself. With the loaded 5 round magazine, I am looking at 10 lbs 9 ounces, which is still light enough to deal with.
    I put my Mossberg Patriot in an MDT Chassis and that worked out great for accuracy. Still gets 1 MOA after 60 rounds of not letting the barrel cool. But now that gun is kind of heavy. I could hunt with any rifle I have and last season, I hunted with my MVP LR-308.
    But I like what you did with the Boyd At-One stock. And if I ever decided to do that, I might go with the Boyd's. Right now, on this polymer stock, I have the Goda Grip cheek riser pad, ammo pad, and large finger pad for comfort and cheek weld. I have high cheek bones.
    Good luck shooting.

      Sir it sounds like you made yours into a nice deerseason hauler, real tasteful selection of ups. 2 questions- do you have a silencerco can that you hunt with and thats why the ASR break? And (2) how did you make out and with what this deer season?

    So range day yielded questionable groups, I need to play with the torque on the bedding screws, if not I may need to glass bed this stock

    Dumb question, but can you top load this rifle or do you have to remove the magazine every time you want to reload it?

    What scope is that? And size?

    Have you had any problems with the magazine with the new stock?

      Wyatt Smith as you might of noticed in the video the hard plastic piece that retains the mag was slightly oversized and made it hard to remove the mag when inserted. I kissed the retainer with the bench grinder and now it slips in and out easy as can be and before and after the “mod” I have had 0 cycling issues

    You have room to drop the scope a little. Been looking into the same stock.

      Chris Holt agreed, the vortex mid rise rings could be lower. I’ll have to check how much can be taken off because the magnification ring on the Argos is beefy and I don’t want my knuckles to scrape when cycling the bolt.

      Finally did lower the scope with Sig Alpha rings

    Why are your rings so high? Get into a set of mediums. Hell, I've mounted 50mm scopes in low vortex rings without problems. That would help your cheek weld/sight picture issue.

      thebarefootmick finally got new rings on it, the scope came off my ruger precision rimfire, I switched them out for sig alpha low rings, I tried .96” but the large magnification ring on the Argos interferes with the 20MOA rail

    • @tritanusmma
      @tritanusmma  Před 4 lety

      I finally put some sig alpha rings on, the scope was off my Ruger Precision .22 which has.a cheek riser that'll go here to the heavens, I mounted that scope the day I got the stock, however the magnification ring is very large on the Argos the constraining factor is the mag ring with the 20MOA rail not the bell and the barrel. Its better with the Alpha rings, Boyds could have still given me more travel on that cheek riser most will come up higher than that.
