  • Continuing with my budget build of the Axis in 308, here's a video about my new At One Thumbhole stock from Boyd's Gunstocks. I'm pretty happy with it!

    I shoot 500+ yds with my savage axis .270 with Accu trigger with no problem. Ordering one of these stocks very soon. I love the idea of taking a cheap gun and making it amazing.

    Savage rifle usually shoot really well! 308 have a good barrel life if you care. Now you have a good stock. After that you will need a good scope! You dont need to break the bank, something like a Diamondback tactical (or bushnell/athlon equivalent) is more than enough to begin. Find the ammo that work if you dont want to reload and look for your shooting skill improvement. It may look like a budget rifle to you but dont worry too much about that, if it work, it work.

    That rifle looks great, I have one coming in Applejack finish and can not wait. The rifle shoots great now, so I am not looking for much improvement, I just wanted to dress it up

    Do you feel like this version/brand is bulkier and/or heavier than some other polymer stock versions. Like say Bergaras HMR polymer stocks. Or do you think it’s bulkier in a good way, that doesn’t add much weight?
    Nice review!

      It is definitely a heavy stock, but I think it’s not uncomfortable. You can still Shoulder the rifle without feeling like it’s a struggle

    My son bought one of these stocks for his Savage Axis .270. He dropped the in some long grass and we scoured the area for hours. Does anyone sell replacement buttons - Boyds or others?

    • @StandAloneOutfitters
      @StandAloneOutfitters  Před 2 lety

      It’s very heavy. I have upgraded the scope to a vortex along with some other things, and it has become pretty tough to hold steady for long periods of time if I’m not on a bench or using the bipod.

    I got my axis II in 308 late last summer and purchased a Boyd at one stock. I have had nothing but problems with getting the magazine to stay in. I have to file the latch on the magazine to get it to catch. But then it won't feed the rounds through, They seem to get hung up on the feed ramp. Tomorrow I am getting an inch-pound torque screwdriver delivered and I am going to makes sure it is torqued to the correct specifications, Any other suggestions? I should try different ammo.

    • @StandAloneOutfitters
      @StandAloneOutfitters  Před 2 lety +1

      This one is a budget scope off of Amazon. (Feyachi frs 21 i believe) It is pretty good for such a low end scope and it holds zero fine, but there are definitely some drawbacks which Is why I put a vortex 6x24 on it now
