    4:07 Yes! I installed the M*Carbo kit in my Axis. They trigger went from the worst in my gun rack to one of the best. It was easy - exactly as in their video - and inexpensive.
    The rifle shoots great (hunting accuracy, not competition) so I will wait before deciding on the Boyds stock. I _really_ don't like the bolt so it looks like a Desh kit is next.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Před 10 měsíci

      Agree so much on trigger kit. Its amazing what simple diy upgrades can transform into. Eventually I plan on sending my bolt out to Desh to rework it but the lift kit is a improvement no doubt. Desh is very knowledgeable as well if you ever have issues with these rifles. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your mods 👍

    My point is: when I watch a review, I want to see tangible results that can help my decision to spend the extra $200 for the stock. In my case, I am beginning to think that maybe the 1 out of 5 flyer is caused when the barrel heats up, it is now slightly touching the factory stock, whereas cold, it is floating. Next time I shoot, I will test it between shots with a piece of paper.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Před 7 měsíci

    Hey man, this is a very informative video. Love that you did this with an Axis as well - those rifles are incredibly accurate out of the box; a couple of upgrades like the Boyds stock, Timney trigger, etc and away you go. I think the main reasons to go with the 110 over the Axis are the trigger and stock anyway, so good choice! Keep up the good work/ posts.

    Looking at your scope mounts I think the cross bolts are rounded. From experience I can tell you that over time the round cross bolt will shift in the base mount and cause the rifle to shoot inaccurately. With heavier caliber rifle’s I’ve seen the scope jump out from the base. If this is the case buy yourself a regular pair of Weaver type rings with the square cross bolt. How did it shoot?? I’m ordering the exact same stock tomorrow.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Před rokem +1

      Thank you I appreciate that tip. I plan on replacing this scope, but I think I will do those weaver mounts first. Rifle shoots amazing, the stock is a huge improvement in balance and feel. The bolt action was tight from factory, but I did the Desh Industries bolt lift kit, aluminum mag catch, and aluminum trigger gaurd. These upgrades were all huge improvements, I have a video on that as well. Hope to have more videos with more improvements this spring, put it on hold for hunting season. I harvested a decent size whitetail doe with it. Thanks again 👍

    Boyds makes nice stocks. I have purchased a few, but honestly your video is fiction. Some Boyd's fit better than others and the same goes for the synthetic stocks from Savage. They can shoot as well as Boyds if they fit well. They are steel pillar bedded and some have more free float than others. You can always remove material and make enough free float it will never touch in firing and be very accurate. I do like the Boyd's stocks much better especially the thumbholes, but they don't always shoot better than the stock ones when they fit well. That is the cold hard facts of life. When bedded properly and floated properly then the Boyds is definitely better but not necessarily so if that is not all done. Been there and done that.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Před 8 měsíci

      I have to disagree in this case. The factory Savage axis stock was so flexible and warped out of straight, I didn't even want to waste a round shooting it before the boyds went on. The aluminum bedding from boyds and no need for removal of material on mine was outstanding. With that being said I will be glass bedding in addition to the Pillar bedding from boyds but not out of necessity only out of preference as it shoots amazing still. I can agree that there might be instances for other models of stock and / or rifles that might need minor adjustments or might not be an accuracy upgrade. Thanks for stopping by 👍

    • @garrytalley8009
      @garrytalley8009 Před 7 měsíci +1

      All I was saying was what you ended up agreeing with. I have Savage stocks that have shot great out of the box and some that did not. They are steel bedded and if the free float is good great. If not, not so much. Also, I have Boyds stocks, and I have some that just bolted up and shot great and I have one that needs a bit of tweaking. I have not had any of them pillar bedded as you did. I have bedded rifles and may end up bedding the one I am working on, but I am hopeful that I won't need to for sub-MOA. I do intend on getting a few more Boyds stocks BTW for at least another 3 of my rifles. But I don't expect bolt on accuracy out of the box. I am a realist. But it can happen.@@BarkEater

    You left out the most important factor of this video. You didn't show us the group you shot. You review a product and don't even report if the gun became more accurate with the replacement stock over the factory stock. For all we know, it became less accurate.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Před 7 měsíci

      I can see your point however I never shot it with original stock and highy unlikely it became less accurate because the new rifle with factory stock was not even floating barrel like it should be. The barrel was rubbing edge of stock on the left side which is a huge inaccuracy. I seen no sense in wasting rounds through it with the Tupperware like factory stock. I get it, these cheap flexible plastic stocks keep the rifle price very affordable but I'm not going to waste my time with them. Hope you understand where I'm coming from and thanks for watching 👍

    I don't agree. You should have at least zeroed your scope with the original stock and expended 5-10 shots to test the accuracy. I have a Savage Axis ii in stainless in 6.5 cm. Using Win Deer Season, I consistently get 3/4" groups four shots and one flyer at 1.5". Wait for barrel to cool and replicate same group pattern. All with original cheap stock. For years i'm thinking about getting a Boyd's stock, but I'm apprehensive, that it won't be any more accurate.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Před 7 měsíci

      Thats great, you might of gotten lucky and got a good one from factory. Visually inspecting mine out of box, it was no good. My first decision was to epoxy fill the void in stock, it did nothing but add weight it was so warped. 5-10 shots in NY where ammo is scarce at times and outrageously priced, I wasn't wasting any. If yours is good then I guess it comes down to preference, im old school maybe but ill choose wood over plastic any day. Bedding is whats going to give the true accuracy anyhow. Best of luck 👍

    Many plastic stocks bend and twist like rubber bands because they're hollow, light and, unfortunately, far too flexible to make plastic stocks a solid foundation for a barreled action. But not a Boyds Hardwood gunstock -- they're solid, Stiff and stable. Just take a look at Boyds' High Speed Camera footage here in this short video: czcams.com/video/iqpYTECGc2I/video.html and you'll see the difference between a Boyds Hardwood Gunstock and a plastic stock.

      Pillar and Glass bedding are two separate methods to bed a rifle. Both do not need to be combined to have a bedded rifle, however yes most competition shooters combine both methods. As you can clearly see this is a multipart series on this rifle, and glass bedding will come in a future episode. I also suggest you search around and look at the multiple other Savage Axis converted into dependable 1000yds rifles, yes they are out there. I am far from a beginner, but appreciate your concern.
