- I got a Spike Camp Stock from Boyd's Gun Stocks for my Savage Axis II rifle in 30-06. The plastic stock that came with the rifle was terrible. By comparison, the new stock from Boyd's is outstanding! I've been very impressed with it.

@@terryclinard9031 you'll have to do a lil hand fittin to your gun to get it like ya want, I highly recommend a v3 precision pillar bed kit at least and maybe bed the reciever area free float the entire barrel channel from the chamber out. I'm seein sub moa accuracy out of mine.

I just bought the same stock for my Model 670. Pillar bedded. I also epoxied the recoil lug. Shoots great couldn’t be happier. I even email Boyd’s with a compliment. Your right on about the slippery stock but there are ways around it. Great video

That is the exact stock that I've just ordered for my Savage model 111 30-06 with the side release button for the magazine. It's nice to actually get a view of it completed and assembled. i agree i have a ruger 10/22 that came with a plastic stock it would not zero at all came across a fajen thumb hole stock now it shoots match heads off at 50 yrds
Regarding the slick gripe: That's what their checkering options are for... also the gloss option.
Hi gun guy, I’m a native CA and I was wondering if u can speak more in the new ammo law this states trying to propose. It’s the lead ban at all the shooting ranges in CA. They say it’s suppose to be a health issue cause of the dangers of lead.

I purchased a cheap Mossberg ATR 100 in 30-06 (I've got a Garand in 06 so I thought I'd pick up something else cheap and fun to shoot). The plastic stock was touching the barrel in several places causing the rifle to be VERY inaccurate, sanded it down and brought the 100 yrd groups down to 2"... From 1+ foot!!! I'm in the market for a nice stock, thanks :-)
I bought a Remington 783 (Brand new) with the same accuracy problem, like minute of elk kind of accuracy problem, EVEN THO the stock had pillar bed. Figured it was the stock but got rid of it. But glad to hear switching stock might help!
I have my girlfriend a mossberg 100 ATR .270 win for Christmas. I upgraded the factory stock with the spike camp. Haven’t shot it yet, looking forward to sighting it in.

FANTASTIC review! only thing i didn't hear you mention was whether this stock came with the pillar bedding done on it, i'm apprehensive to spend an additional 40% with shipping for a seemingly small part that might have diminishing returns on accuracy, please let me know if you see this!
I have had the same issues with my Savage Axis. I dropped the trigger weight to about a pound and a half. Now it will drop about a 1 moa at 100 yards. I've had some great groups at 300 as well with a 308. It wasn't very hard to lighten up the trigger pull
I have three Boyds thumbhole stocks. Look great and shoot straight.
I bought a spike camp Friday in forest camo for a savage À17HM2. I shoot with both hands, but I'm better going lefty even though I'm right handed. That was my main reason for the spike camp. They don't offer the rimfire hunter stock for my gun which is stupid. I really hope it works out.
Boyd's stocks are very nice. I have a barracuda on my race 10/22. I have been looking at one for my Howa 1500. I was always under the impression that we couldn't have a thumbhole stock on a centerfire rifle. I guess that is on a semiautomatic centerfire.
That stock makes the savage look amazing
Jeoffry Ross i have a thumbhole on my remington in 308 win and im gonna order one for my weatherby in 300 wm soon . At first it was kinda weird . But with the time , i got use to it . And actually prefer a thumbole now
The Boyd's At-One thumb-hole had the adjustable LOP and COMB.
As for your issue with the stock being "slick" they offer laser etching in different patterns to give you a better grip.

You can get them lazer engraved to give it some grip.
When you order from Boyds, you can change LOP to whatever you want, including options in recoil pads... I'm assuming they just sent him the "stock" length... and as mentioned in other comments, they offer a wide variety of laser "checkering"..
Spike camp only has the add on recoil pad options, not pre fitted. some of their more expensive stocks can be ordered this way but not the spike camp.
Does Boyds still sell unfinished stocks? I built a 10/22 back in 2008 and used a Boyds unfinished stock. It was a bit cheaper, and being able to customize & finish it to my liking was a big reason I used the unfinished stock. I've been considering a new rifle and wouldn't mind a nice stock like that, but I'd certainly prefer to finish it myself.
You can add custom checkering for just a little more. And also on a lot of their stocks you can change the length of pull it just depends on the model etc. Good review though.
You should order one of Boyd's stocks with the add-on laser checkering and see if that helps with your grip problem.
What cheek riser did you add on to the Boyds stock?
I just got a new axis II and my stock looks just like that but I noticed inside it has cross bracing. I've seen a bunch of videos like this and it appears Savage made at least one correction since then. I'm thinking about getting the camp spike for my browning A bolt though because the standard stock is so nice I never take the gun out when the weather is bad which is mostly the entire deer season so a stock change would allow me to actually use the gun. But anyway, not sure if savage would sell the newer stocks, if so I'd think they would be pretty cheap there isn't much there but they have improved since this review.
And to be fair, the boyd's stock is $128 plus any upgrades like a nicer recoil pad in my case so my options would be $150. My entire savage Axis II with scope was $379. So to be fair, you aren't going to get a $130 stock on a $300 gun (scope is about $80 on its own).

I have. A boyds on my sons rifle and i have a stockys on one of my rifles ..and there both nice stocks but the boyds is alot better and quality in my opinion. But both look great ...and there both glass bedded and free float ........

late last summer and purchased a Boyd at one stock. I have had nothing but problems with getting the magazine to stay in. I have to file the latch on the magazine to get it to catch. But then it won't feed the rounds through, They seem to get hung up on the feed ramp. Tomorrow I am getting an inch-pound torque screwdriver delivered and I am going to make sure it is torqued to the correct specifications, Any other suggestions? I should try different ammo.

Just ordered a thumbhole stock from Boyd's two weeks ago, you didn't cover the bottom metal pieces needed for this swap, could you tell us where you got them. savage arms is shut down from the virus so I'm trying to source the bottom metal parts for my model 11 trophy hunter. thanks

My Boyd's at one stock for my Savage looked nice, but was total junk. All cuttings inside were Wrong, nothing worked at all. Everything was cut too deep. Never again.

Would you recommend this stock for a mosin?
I've ordered the timney trigger already just trying to find the best stock at the best price and these seem to be the lowest price out there for the mosin.
How long does it take to get it after you order?
I got one, the grip was made for a child sized hand. It's a pity because otherwise it would be a nice stock.
