The game is NOT going to "thrive long after release". Look, I can see you are a new reivewer and hope you make it big, but just like any other reivews you didnt mention the big minus of this game and you didnt talk AT ALL about the multiplayer, which 50% of the appeal of such game. For anyone looking to find the answers, here they are, since I had to buy the game myself to see, since no reviewer talked about it:
There is no AIs on custom built tracks, which means that if you build that track of your dreams, you will race on it alone. Unless you think you think that you will publish it and it will be selected in multiplayer quick races to play with other players. No. That's not going to happen. What happens when you go into online multiplayer is that you will get a random choice of tracks, some of them might be custom made by other players, and if you are really really lucky yours will be there (most likely it wont), then it needs to be voted by the players in the queue to race on it, which is also little likely to happen. So most likely you will never get to race on it. Again, you're thinking you'll just play with AIs on it... again, not possible, AIs are 100% disabled on custom maps.
Now for the even worse part (yeah, there's more), you cannot add AI in online multiplayer AT ALL, not even on official maps. Yeah, the built in maps that already have AIs working on them, those AIs are totally disabled for multiplayer, no way to add them.
So if you think you'll just make a private lobby with a friend, and you'll add some AIs so it's not boring with just the 2 of you, you know like in any other race game out there, well YOU CANT. It will be just you and your friend. Again, even on official maps.
So the reality of this game is that you'll get into multiplayer at some point, wanna race vs others, you'll see there's barely any players, and those that are going to absolutely destroy you with their better cars, skills or cheats (yes, already there are cheaters), and you will forget about this game after a few tries.
This was the problem of the first game and the main complaint, and they still havent addressed it.
Of course, this review, like any other out there, is just generic not telling you about any of this, because that requires some research. These reviewers just try to tick some boxes and read off a script.
But there you go, you got your answers now.
I hope the time trials aren't like last time. They were dependent on using shortcuts to beat the time. Shortcuts should be an option, not a necessity.
I mean would it be recommended to take shortcuts
I only ever needed a shortcut once to finish a time trial in the first game and I was pretty close doing it the intended way. I haven't finished HW 2, but so far the time trials weren't that bad, I just had to upgrade a car to finish one I was stuck with. The drifting events are more difficult imo.

i played it when i was bored and had it on ps plus and even though i played for less than 4 hours what i did play was pretty fun glad it got a sequal maybe for the sequal ill actually buy it and invest time in
One issue I had with the first game is not being able to choose my car after seeing the track. It should have a quick car swap feature after the track voting is completed.
If the sequel has fixed this i would buy it.

Imagine you are just trying to complete a race but keep getting bumps into last place it wasn't in the first Game or beat that had weapons which I'd prefer
Especially the short cuts are especially difficult to do because it is like a math magic trick
