If you need to understand what's wrong, just look at the raw facts. Three terrible decisions go against Forest. Forest complain. Carragher and Neville, speaking for SKY and the punditry as a whole immediately the identify the problem as being that Forest complained. This must be stamped out they said, and they weren't talking about the nonsense way VAR is being appiled, they were talking about the clubs trying to defend themselves. I'm also reminded of last year when Andy Robertson got into trouble for (checks notes) being assaulted by the linesman...
We as fans have a fundamental misunderstand of what VAR is intended to do. As fans we think it should drive consistency and accuracy but that is clearly not the case. It is solely there to protect the referees. I’ve read/listen many of the articles by experts that explain all the var decisions (mainly because they are laughably amusing) and in them they all clearly give away what is happening. The driving force of VAR is “clear and obvious error.” This is solely there to give PGMOL and VAR enough wiggle room to back the on field decision even if incorrect. Until the that provision is removed, nothing will change. And here’s a novel idea, have the referees explain their decisions post match. At least it will give accountability.
VAR is not the problem any more than referring is a problem. The problem is the quality of the officiating and the people who adjudicate the events. If not for VAR we would not see these errors and they will get swept under the carpet, if anything, VAR is evidencing how poor our officials are. How many errors can you guys remember from the World Cup or the Champions League?
In the United States, our leagues say that Replay has to prove something beyond a reasonable doubt. So if a goal is scored on the field they need the replay to be so obviously offsides that it will be called offsides. If the offsides looks iffy in replay, they can’t take off a goal because they still have a reasonable doubt. In this instance, Manchester United would have lost their game in the FA Cup the other day
Thoughts on going back on your comment a couple days ago with “be careful what you wish for” as Moyes has had a masterclass against palace, with a staggering 3-6-6 record in 2024 I think we have a higher ceiling than that with better recruitment and a new manager
When ball tracking was brought into International Cricket, India did not trust the technology so any game involving them did not use it, this continued until they were convinced the tech worked. It's at the point where clubs need to be given the option to opt out of VARs use. Only use it at games where both teams agree to it.

As RFK Jr put it: “nobody ever escaped tyranny by conforming”
Love these podcasts. Great place to keep up to date with everything football but in a fun way. Keep it up lads
They love that VAR suppresses goal celebrations. Can't have the plebs getting too excited, we might get out of control.
Well said guys, we need to have more of these difficult discussions surrounding corruption
In this instance, Manchester United would have lost their game in the FA Cup the other day
boo shhhh
@@ShredAndPurr 😂
if liverpool lose the title with 2 points they will sue because of the Tottenham game. And I agree.
Thoughts on going back on your comment a couple days ago with “be careful what you wish for” as Moyes has had a masterclass against palace, with a staggering 3-6-6 record in 2024 I think we have a higher ceiling than that with better recruitment and a new manager
“They” will come after you bro 👊 batten down the hatches and remember that I the fan down the pub stands with you 👻
When ball tracking was brought into International Cricket, India did not trust the technology so any game involving them did not use it, this continued until they were convinced the tech worked.
It's at the point where clubs need to be given the option to opt out of VARs use. Only use it at games where both teams agree to it.
Good idea
That’s the answer.
I really like this suggestion.
dumb
They should change the English Premiere League to The Howard Webb Carnival of Corruptions.
SKY & the PGMOL are in cahoots what do you expect
Paul Tierney and the VAR... why wasn't Max Kilman sent off for a reckless and violent potential leg-breaker on Kai Havertz? Answer: Wolves have suffered so much from dodgy decisions this season that they decided to even things up. Two wrongs don't make a right.
What about David Luiz assault on Raul Jimenez
Who's here after the Spotify version cut off after 30 minutes
Edit: The Spotify version seems to be a really weird edit where they've cut out a bunch of stuff? Not sure what's going on?
