  • You're met James before in a few videos. He moved to Boquete, Panama, three years ago. But when he and his partner Yalina saw that rents were getting more affordable in Panama City, they decided to check it out. They were AMAZED at what they found. How about a three bedroom two bath with an ocean view for $850! He could reduce his cost of living by moving from Boquete to Panama City.
    Panama City has anything and everything you could possibly need. It's a very walkable town. Plus, a modern subway system, metro buses, and taxis or Ubers are readily available.
    James came on a Panama Relocation Tour to help him have a smooth, hassle-free move to Panama.

    That's one of the things I love about Panama, medical and dental is very cheap, you pay pennies for the service compared to USA where you pay hundreds or thousands. Don't feel old my friend, 70, you've just hatched.

      Yes ! Medical and dental here very reasonable and good quality. However the prescription drug costs are outrageous ! I think most expats are still dealing with 90 day supplies from their US pharmacies.

    Y'all are a GREAT couple and I think your 2-story penthouse is very cool. James is so candid and informative. Loved this video. $850 per month is a bargain for Paitilla - I think because that's a little bit older of a building - but what you save in rent, you can apply elsewhere. Take care and continue to enjoy your walks along la Cinta Costera and go down to the Mercado de Mariscos and have a ceviche de corvina in my name. May 2023 bring you much health and happiness. (Don't forget that you're not too far from Parque Omar in San Francisco - I love rolling hills and old trees there.) Peace and all good.

    I have been living here in Panamá City for ver a year now, and just rented my second one bedroom apartment (monthly rates $750 in San Francisco then $1,000 Bella Vista). I am also AMAZED at the deal James and Yalina got! I don’t believe those kinds of deals are available to us norteamericanos. Like how the taxi fares here depend on your accent, I think since Yalina is a native and did all the legwork, she was able to get that incredible price.
    Buying property here, extranjeros/foreigners are required to put 20-30% down, but locals/nativos can get away with 5-10% down payments! I even know one instance where the bank is financing 98% of the loan for a Panamanian.
    Just saying it is possible, retirement experiences are different ……depending! Definitely not a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of.

      For one person to get the Penisionado Visa, you need $1000 per month in lifetime income. For each dependent you add, you need to prove an additional $250 per month in lifetime income. You must be legally married to claim your partner as a dependent.

    Panama is still cheaper to live in than the US or Canada, but prices have been rising steadily and dramatically to the point where it’s now a challenge for expats and locals to adjust. Social Security doesn’t increase to the same degree as the cost of living does in Panama. It’s getting harder and harder to live in Panama on a fixed income. Fortunately, it’s still doable for now. But for rich retirees… no hay problema! 😁

    • @PanamaRelocationTours
      @PanamaRelocationTours  Před měsícem

      Don't know where you live in Panama but prices have not gone up in most things. I've been here 15 years. Restaurant, esprcially expat owned, prices have gone up but Panamanian fondas have gone from $4a meal to $5 a meal in the last 10 years. Rents in Panama City are less now than they were 5 years ago. Fruit and veggie prices have not gone up. Fish prices are up 10%from 5 years ago but still a bargain of $3lb for sea bass or $5lb for tuna. The great thing about Panama is that there is always a more affordable place to live in the country..if you avoid expat heavy areas. But even in Boquete, you can get a 1 bedroom for $500 or a 2 bedroom for $600. If prices are too expensive where you are, MOVE to a different area in Panama that is more affordable.

      @@PanamaRelocationTours - It’s so nice to hear from an expat who actually lives in Panama. I keep hearing how much more expensive Panama has become because of all the foreigners moving there and causing prices to go up. Looks like the Internet news sources are not dependable. Thanks for dispelling that rumor.
