For us Metal Heads, Rime of the Ancient Mariner is our Stairway to Heaven lol \m/!!!
TRUTH
Fo' Sho' !!!!
I've always considered Zep to be metal - the true first metal band, beating Sabbath to the punch - so I say "Stairway" is the '"Stairway" for us metalheads.
Erik Fullmer please don't speak for me. For me, Hallowed Be Thy Name is my Stairway to Heaven, Rime comes a close but not perfect second. Only after those two can I even consider other bands. But Maiden have to be seven out of my top 10.
@@Dragonblaster1 I can respect that!
I think she had an eargasm.
Only an eargasm??
Was about to post same thing! Very happy to witness someone experience ROTAM for the first time... Brings me back...
I love how these guys get it.
And I love how they enjoy it.
We all hit that point at one time when we got it.
She has to hear Hallowed be thy name.
All human beings must hear hallowed be thy name, even non metalheads
Hasan Awad you should hear my 6 year old son sing the beginning of Hallowed Be Thy Name. When he sings “At 5 o’clock they take me to the gallows pole,” I get chills and teary eyed. I’ve tried to video him doing it but he’s shy.
See also: Caught Somewhere in Time, Phantom of the Opera, Aces High, The Duellists, The Evil That Men Do.....
(3 hours later)
....Infinite Dreams, 7th Son of a 7th Son, Silent Planet, Dance of Death, Murder on the Rue De Morgue, Wicker Man.....
We did HBTN. Check out playlist! It was one of our first. Thanks...
Kel-n-Rich yeah I saw it, it was one of your best.
What is awesome about Iron Maiden is that they teach you history, geography and literature through their songs, hell, they even have a song about English football on weekends (Weekend Warrior). Iron Maiden will always be one of the greatest bands in Metal genre. Up the Irons forever!
Loved watching her *love* the song !!! Always been one of my favorite Maiden songs ... 🤘🤘🤘👍
I f^cken love her reaction, I love these videos where I get a chance to experience peoples first time listening to the music that I've been Jammin to for 35+ yrs.
These guys have never forgotten where they came from and love their fans
Doesnt get any better than these guys
No joke I took my brother when he was 11 to a Maiden concert and he's loved them ever since. They're all amazing musicians.
My first concert ever: February 9, 1985. Just got my driver's license and drove to see Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour in Greensboro with my younger brother and two buddies from the neighborhood. Absolutely incredible stage show. Steve Harris remains one of my favorite bassists because of his amazing speed and endurance in the right forearm/fingers (and his precision). The simple 3-note chord grouping slowdown in the middle puts you adrift in "the doldrums" near the equator with the Mariner. It's not just the notes, it's the unmistakable simultaneous bright melodic tone AND punch that Harris got from his bass. You play me a couple of bars from any Maiden song and I'll know it's them from his signature sound. That bass line and the imagery of the lyrics transport you to the ghost ship with the Mariner: no wind, just the sun beating down, the creaking mast and deck boards caught in the slow monotonous motion of the endless deep below, creating feelings of isolation and the specter of madness brought on by thirst, and despair, Then, just when it appears all hope is lost, salvation comes with the rain. Side note: Aces High is another absolute gem from this album, showcasing Harris's total mastery of the bass. Rime of the Ancient Mariner gave me a reason to pay attention in English class.
I suggest "Seventh son of a seventh son" song , from same title album.
Seventh son of a seventh son is on the seventh son album not Powerslave.
@@SilencerUK I wanna say "Seventh son of a Seventh son", song from "Seventh son of a Seventh son" album. Sorry if my english is not good, but I'm italian... :)
Excellent choice i seen maiden do this live at the NEC it was a great gig.one of my fav maiden albums.
@@SilencerUK
Seventh son of a seventh son from the album Seventh son of a seventh son from the year Seventh son of a seventh son
"Powerslave" is the ultimate embodiment of what would be the concept of true traditional 'classic heavy metal' from beginning to end. Perfect album in every way.
And this great epic "Rime ..." is the pearl that closes this masterpiece!
Poweslave was my first Iron Maiden. Concert when I was 22 years old.
There's so much to Maiden's songs: the creaking of the yards around the 9:30 minute mark and the slow tempo while Bruce narrates is to let you FEEL the story. I could see the men sitting in what shade they could find on a still ocean. They're so technical and well thought out in the mechanics of their lyrics, the instrumentation and the course and layout of their songs. THAT's why so many young teens in the 80's were drawn to them. They were an intelligent band.
She would probably love Alexander the Great by Maiden, it's an epic song. Just like Mariner or maybe even To Tame a Land.
mikkael rodriguez you made amazing suggestions!
@darrell wood...when you agreed, it really caught our attention! That’s so cool!!!!
@mikkael rodriguez - right on!!! That’s what we are in search of to share with all of you. So appreciate your contributions to our fun and inspiration. ❤️🙏🏽👏❤️🙏🏽👊
To Tame a Land is so awesome!
Why do people on youtube keep recommending this song..seriously? It has cool lyrics but they are forced and the song doesn't sound smooth at all, not good on the ears. There are at least 30 way more impressive maiden songs I can think of..
They'll be in Denver in less than 5 weeks. If.......IF they play this, I could die the next day and be the happiest man on earth. Up the Irons! 🤘🤘 Glad you liked it Kel
Fabulous band Iron Maiden. Really love your response. Love watching you.
Iron maiden= my favorite metal band. First porcupine tree now iron maiden? Looking forward to more great reactions
Iron Maiden, good choice. They showed that metal can have a poem as a background am remain beeing metal.
Also history, they have a lot of historical nonfiction songs.
Kel now understand what is to be like Iron Maiden fan..pure joy!
Thanks guys for your reaction, really enjoyed it. You have probably listened to the best metal song ever written. Check out the live performances, they are all what Iron Maiden is all about. Cheers!
Your reactions are priceless! I love it. I see the passion flowing through your bodies as you rock out to these songs. I look forward to seeing you two experience more of these👍🏼 up the irons🤘🏼🤘🏼
One has to wonder about... if it were possible...to have Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky & Chopin in a room together listening to this for the 1st time. Technology aside. And of course been told beforehand...Ok, prepare to be shocked & mindblown...obviously...BUT beyond that, truly just listen to the song's movements, melodies, time changes, individual parts, emotion, the story...how the guitars are covering the violin & viola parts, etc. What would've they felt & thought about it? Would any of them have "got" it on some level? I realize it's a major fantasy stretch, but those gents were absolute masters of the musical craft & were pioneers of thinking "outside the box". As a musician myself, some part of me likes to think that at the very least one of them would have heard the beauty in this opus.
I saw this live for the album Powerslave in Kansas City, MO 1984 - Twisted Sister was the opening act
You guys are fucking awesome!
This was the 1st concert I ever saw at 15. Iron Maiden with Twisted Sister opening at The Capital Centre Landover Md 1/28/85. It changed my life forever.
Watching you guys enjoying this makes me very happy 😃
One of the best songs representing metal ever.
The greatest metal band ever to grace a stage.
I am really enjoying watching Kel get into this song.
I'm a massive Maiden fan. First saw them live as a support act for Judas Priest in 79 in the UK . My I suggest you give the Priest a listen.
specially the older stuff, up to the 80s...
All time favourite masterpiece
You have just made my night, Kel, your passion seeped through the ether and I soaked it up. I like Rich was theses songs passed the first time. There timeless pieces, Maiden were on a streak of producing magic. Good for the history nerds too ;)
Fantastic song, but watch a live video of this song. You can see how much they enjoy playing.
Best one is Rime of the ancient Mariner Flight 666
If you guys like Dream Theater, and Iron Maiden, you should also try Queensryche. 1980's Queensryche!!
Check out the first three tracks from Operation: Mindcrime. An entire album reaction may not be in the cards but you still need to hear it. Certainly one of the best concept albums of all time.
Walk in the Shadows, y'all
Empire still my fav QR record.
Judas Priest- Beyond The Realms Of Death
Guitar byrd yes!
and THEN HE DIIIIIED
Always does, every time.
"A Touch of Evil" and "One Shot A Glory", too
This. Period.
I need to respond to two of Kel's comments.
1. You don't normally see mosh pits when Maiden is on stage. The one time I saw one start up, at the end of the song, Dickinson angrily told them to knock it off because it was preventing those who want to watch the band and enjoy the show and the music from doing so, because they were being involuntarily knocked around and forced to move.
2. She mentioned feeling like she was on a rickety old ship. At on Maiden show I was at I was able to sneak down real close to the stage and when they did this song and got to that section, there was a moment where the bass player was slowly scraping his pick on a string which gave it a seriously creaky sound, and added to that it was a very wide stage, and across the top of the front of it was a long sort of beam that went all the way from side to side, and it was in three dully painted parallel colors - I think it was red, blue, and green - and in the center of that was a sort of target-like circle in the same colors, the whole of which looked very ship-ish. This beam was attached to light fixtures that were made to sway very slowly during the creaky bass and I suddenly realized I was on the creaky ship swaying in a dead water waiting for whatever doom might follow; but even more striking, was discovering that I had just had a moment of the type that sneaks up on you unawares and takes you in and you don't realize it until after it's got you. And suddenly you go, "Wow, that was a moment." Brilliant.
Was waiting for Kels reaction for the transition at 7:18. You didn't disappoint Kel ! Rock on girl !
Glad to hear Iron Maiden. They are my favorite band. You guys rock!!!
love both your enthusiasm for music
pleasure to watch and listen
Very much enjoyed your reaction guys
Loved it
I suggest Iron Maiden - The lonelines of the long distance runner :)
Ok @Guardian of Asgaard! It goes on this month’s list. Thanks for this suggestion. You must love it and we appreciate you serving it up for Kel-n-I 💪🏻🔥
If you like Maiden's epic stuff I would definitely recommend Paschendale and Empire Of The Clouds. As a longstanding Maiden fan,it's great to see Kel's first time reactions to songs that have been such a big part of my life for so long.It seems that you're both on a mission. Keep up the great work.
Some other essential long epic Iron Maiden songs to react:
Phantom Of The Opera
Dance Of Death
Caught Somewhere In Time
Alexander The Great
The Nomad
The Clansman
The Sign Of The Cross
Powerslave
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Fear Of The Dark
When The Wild Wind Blows

@@albinbinettgeorgson7323 Yeah! I know! They're the essential ones worth reacting to :)
Utku Hasan hell yeah!!
The red and the black.
This brought me so much joy watching this as I am a total Maiden freak since 1982.She would LOVE Hallowed be thy name,Alexander the Great,Dance of death and The Duellist.I am a proud new subscriber! Other songs you guys would enjoy coming from a classical background would be Nightwish-Phantom of the Opera live from End of an era.Nightwish-Poet and the pendulum.Kamelot-Elizabeth parts 1-3
Now we are talkin’! Welcome to the party. We will doing most if not ALL of these. Which is your #1 and # 2 ?
Many thanks for your excellent comments. It means a lot to us knowing people like you give a shit enough to give us gifts like this. 🙏🏽🔥🤘❤️🔥👏🤘💪🏻🤘❤️🔥
Rich-n-Kel I would suggest Maiden’s Hallowed be thy name and Nightwish’s Phantom of the opera. Thanks for the response.Looking forward to sharing this journey together!
Kel's reaction to this is priceless.
Amazing reaction for an Amazing song! UP THE IRONS! Greetings fron Italy! :)
Hey @cami71able ! You rock! Italy??? How’r things there? Any big concerts coming to your area soon?
UP THE IRONS indeed. 🤘🤘🤘❤️
@@Kel.N.RichReactions So good thanks! We have beautiful sunny days and many concerts and Metal Festivals : Metallica , Slash, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Overkill,
Neal Morse, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Dream Theatre, Slipknot, Amon Amarth, Testament,King Crimson, and many many more... :) . If I can suggest you some italian heavy metal band to react, I suggest you Elvenking , expecially "The Scythe" album (all songs, go random), and Frozen Crown from "The fallen King" album, expecially the songs "Kings", "I am the Tyrant" and "Everwinter". Stay Metal, and good life! :)
Sign of the cross live. The musicianship is second to none! Kel, you would never open your eyes through this one.
What a pleasure hearing kels first reaction.maybe the greatest epic song of all time.
I got extra credit in '88 from my English teacher after I played this in his class. We'd just read it and I mentioned this song and he wanted to hear it. Thanks Maiden for a great literature lesson!!
Best Kel reaction...EVER!
Good content just came across your channel. My favorite Album from Maiden Powerslave and this is my favorite track.
I’ll be seeing Maiden 7/26 @Barclays Center Brooklyn NY 🤘🥃
"Piece of Mind" broke my metal cherry, and Maiden is my all-time favorite. "Number of the Beast" was the first metal album (actual vinyl, brother!) I actually owned. I love seeing you love the shit I love!
Up the Irons!
the rain is significant for a ship dying of thirst. when i was seeing this live in 1984 (yes i'm old) the fireworks after "then down in falls comes the rain" made an impression on me. well the whole concert did, a 16yr kid...
If you guys enjoy Iron Maiden, I strongly suggest Powerslave, the song that comes right before Rime of the Ancient Mariner on the same album. It's a beautiful song about the power of death and even the gods (Osiris is specifically mentioned in the song I believe) being a slave to it's power.
#painintheask
My senior year in high school I took English Literature and my teacher actually played this song for the class. It was so awesome.
First off I just want to say I LOVE these react videos, watching someone experience the great songs from my favorite band gives me goosebumps. Secondly youre listening to songs that arent even their chart toppers which is amazing because youre loving the songs that true iron maiden fans love and appreciate for their complexity and beauty. Thirdly your wife/gf (not sure which) is awesome I only wish i could find a beautiful girl who loves metal as much as I do and who looks at me the way she looks at you. Lastly watch the live version of this song from their flight 666 tour, the build up after the slow part when they come back in will give you visualgasm and eargasm no joke lol czcams.com/video/2AmrIydnXIs/video.html
Deja Vu from Iron Maiden, few people know but its the most underated song from the band, a hidden gem!
Come down to Coral Springs and visit Nicko McBrain's restaurant, Rock-n-Roll Ribs. Great ribs, great atmosphere and you might see n talk to Nicko himself.
This song is based on the famous poem by colldridge "the ryme of the ancient mariner"
Maiden turned the poem into a classic track just love it.
Great reaction Kel!
👍👍👍
she needs to read the lyrics!
And then a song came sailing towards her
It was a joy she could not believe.
love Kels reaction this song is so brilliant and Rich you are so blessed with this beautifull lady greetz from Holland
I have to say you you two make the best reaction videos I’ve seen so far, y’all keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for this react!!
Masterpiece!!!🤘🤘🤘
UP THE IRONS!!
Hi folks really enjoyed your reaction, they are doing a US tour this summer, get tickets, it's such an awesome show! Perhaps try some newer maiden, epic songs like, when the wild wind blows, the red and the black, the book of souls, the talisman. Or try something live from the book of souls live chapter or the en vivo video, choose any song you like, they're all awesome live! Cheers!
If they come to Florida, we are going. No doubt. These sound like great suggestions. Which one is the most ‘epic’ IYO?
@@Kel.N.RichReactions man, they are playing Fort Lauderdale on July 18th, I'm coming across the pond to see it, the first night of the tour. I did the whole UK tour last year and it's epic! I honestly can't tell you the best song, I love them all, but I think live videos are best. Kel might like an acoustic song, the journeyman from death on the road video. Empire of the clouds is an 18 Min epic about a true story of an airship that crashed, it's different for maiden, Bruce plays piano! Maybe check out fear of the dark from rock in Rio 2001. Sorry for typing so much, I just fucking love maiden!
Go see them. Knew little to nothing about them in 08 and saw live. Instant fan.
Love this song. The first four Maiden concerts I attended were the four nights at Long Beach Arena, where they recorded their "Live After Death" album. I was 12 and it was an awesome experience. If you can find it, you should watch the concert video. It's an awesome show. And for Kel, as you know, Beethoven, Bach, Chopin and Tchaikovsky composed some iconic and timeless symphonies.
I saw them on the Powerslave tour. When they did this Dave Murray was scratching his guitar strings to make the creaking ship sounds. Best part of the show.
Some suggestions :
Infinite Dreams, Ghost of the Navigator, Caught Somewhere in Time and The Red and The Black :)
Kel you got A LOT of catching up to do !!!
Fantastic reaction, I loved it! :D
This song is pure perfection
When the quiet section comes in… you know the ship is languishing in the Doldrums… it’s so well written that you don’t need to be told
Glad you liked it, Kel! Yeah, as others have commented, check out a live version of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (preferably from Hammersmith in 1982 or the Live After Death show from 1985. See you two out on the road with Maiden this summer, I hope!
Caught somewhere in time -Iron Maiden
If I had to pick one song to listen to for the rest of my life, it'd be this one. I never seem to get bored of it.
Empire of The Clouds !
Great reaction. Loved driving the crazy metal bus.
I hadn't listened to this song for years and I'd forgotten just how good it is.
This is By far my favorite Iron maiden song and this is a song that I turn my daughter into a maiden fan with now she's a maiden fan just like her daddy and I'm so proud of it This is an awesome awesome video it's priceless Absolutely love you reactions the music took over your souls that's what iron maiden Does to you especially This song Love your videos
I got here by chance and I really like your reaction.
Nice dynimics between the two, keep it up!
Hey thanks @Evert DeLarge. That's kind of you to say. We are really so fond of each other and love doing anything together, especially listening to music and going to live shows.
Do you have any requests for us? Send em...we consider all. Thanks for stopping by.
@@Kel.N.RichReactions I can see you guys are meant for each other, that's awesome.
As for requests, maybe some metal like Deliverance by Opeth or something more psychodelic/classic like Cricket & the Genie by The Claypool Lennon Delirium.
This has got to be the greatest metal songs ever ever when I listen to it it just takes ahold of me and I vision myself somewhere in the middle of an ocean On a schooner battling a sea serpent epic epic song.
This was the song that got me into Maiden. I love your reacts. You're so full of boundless energy and enthusiasm. That and joy. It makes me happy knowing you folks are out there. A counter to all this worlds negativity.
Hi guys, 'love your reviews! I just wanted to share a short story about this song. I had to read "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" in one of my HS English classes, and in the margins were sort of a "Cliff's Notes" version... They worded the notes so it almost lined up one-to-one with this song! It inspired me to write a report about it. I used a calligraphy pen, and illustrated the cover with a drawing I made of a three masted ship. It got me an A+ in the class! Go Maiden! Thanks for the reviews- You two remind me of myself and my wife, also named Kel... Thanks again!
Great reaction, Kelli! It is so refreshing to see you get it and feel it. Maiden has soo many great songs. Powerslave and Caught Somewhere In Time are my two favorite albums. My first show ever was Twisted Sister and Iron Maiden on the Powerslave tour in 1985. They fell off after Seventh Son of a Seventh Son in my opinion. They made a comeback several years later with A Brave New World. Please try Deftones: Diamond Eyes or Tesseract: Acceptance.
Cookie monster metal, LOL!!! That might be the best description for it yet. Gonna keep that one in mind, thanks you two. And yeah, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner just takes you THERE!!! I think I knew I was gonna be a longtime Iron Maiden fan the very moment I first heard that epic song off their now-classic Powerslave album way back when.
Your girl knows how to properly experience metal...close thine eyes, and enjoy the ride. lol
damn, i was like 13 yaers old when i bought that album. still can sing along ^^
the fun in reaction vids for me is to watch ppl to hear my alltime favorites for the first time.
what about symphonic metal? i'd suggest nightwish "ghost love score" (wacken 2013 live)
you're subbed ;)
I saw Maiden at the Marquee club in the 1970s when Paul Dianno was the singer. My mate said, "What did you think?". I said, "they were pretty good. I think if they get a decent vocalist they could be quite big". Enter Bruce Dickinson..... Maiden go intergalactic. I lost track of them decades ago so this is the first time I've heard this one too. Superb!
Flight of Icarus
Good call, but Hallowed and Rime are pretty much the bombs with Maidenheads, I find.
I really enjoy seeing Kel hearing one of the greatest Maiden tunes PERIOD!! THere is true joy in her reaction which is heartwarming to see these days.. Your a very lucky man to have such a awesome wife to show the gift of metal to!! It's such a great feeling watching someone hear and feel the joy we have listening to this music . I'm 52 and have been to dang near every bid(and upcoming) band from Zepplin (which I had to sneak out to go see) crack the roof on the king dome!!! Rush ? 15 times. You know the story .. Keep enjoying the world of music!!!! Ps. Led Zepplin Rules!!!!
Oops I meant band🙄
I have been an Iron Maiden fan for years and years.Ive seen them twice.I listen to them all the time.Ive played the album's,CDs,for friends, for girlfriends. They just don't understand how much that music clutches at me.Kel gets it .You are a lucky man Rich.
Live version of Phantom Of The Opera ... either from "Early Days" concert in 2005 Gothenburg OR even from "Live After Death" back in 1985 (wasn't on cassette version, but from same show and on extended release). And of course, "Fear of the Dark" live from Rock in Rio. And finally anything from the live concert "En Vivo" which is incredible live video concert! Nice job guys, just found you today when saw my fav Iron Maiden song being reacted to, and just loved her reaction!!!
22 Acacia Avenue, Children of the Damned, Powerslave, anything off of Piece of Mind, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Janik Gers guitarist from my home town Hartlepool, UK, regularly on the terraces watching Hartlepool United play, cracking fella.
really man? me too! this is the song that gave me the true light! awesome! keep it up! cheers from Greece!
