I always get a kick out of visitors experiences in the town I grew up in and live, because it reminds me not to take it for granted and that is a special place. The enthusiasm you share is so important, it's a big part of what makes it special, one comment on the island "sunset key" was as he said was tank island, a man made island for fueling for the military in the sixties ,
Of course was developed and a more inviting name was attached, I captained the ferry in the early days ( late 90s) ( and some great stories from that time)
And of course your right fresh key lime pie, is best ,, I think I make a more authentic pie, I feel it's been reinvented so many times few people have had the original,

I made the BEST Key Lime squares the other dy. I had to bring them into work so Jon and I wouldn't eat them all. That would not help our waistlines. LOL
This is why I have loved living in Florida for nearly four decades. West Coast, beautiful!

I just have to share with you, that few weeks ago I have came out to my "no chance man" and he reacted absolutely great, he even told me that he knew it for a long time. And I even feel that we meet more often since then, so I am happy as you looks in this video :D

Thanks guys. We were in KW in 2014 over MLK weekend. Insane. Everything was totally packed with overweight straight people. We stayed in a gay B&B but it was like staying in a 24-hour disco. Next time we will have to go back off season...

My girlfriend and I vacation in key West at least once a year, we also take the Water Taxi to latitudes on Sunset Key to enjoy breakfast & lunch, we've never made dinner reservations maybe we'll do that this summer. Enjoyed your video👍
Stayed at Alexander's several years ago. But too expensive but my reward for being caretaker for my mom her last decade. Had a room under the eaves. Advantage was being able to walk out naked from my room. Particularly happy with the sunrises and the wonderful staff.
It’s a great place and we’re excited to have a bunch of friends there with us in September! Clothing optional! Wohoo!
@@OutLoudJB it's only clothing optional on the top deck under the eaves of the two attic rooms.
Since we have reserved the entire complex exclusively for Out Loud, it’s totally clothing optional

I remember when Sunset Key was called by its real name which is tank island, It had 3 large oil tanks on it years back.

Love Key West and Alexanders, I think I stayed in Room 1, I can remember it had the shower on the back porch. Where are the cats, when I was there the cats were everywhere, even at your table having lunch, need to go back soon.

Been going to KW for years--one of my favorite places in the world. Real estate is outrageously expensive and could be destroyed with one storm.

My partner and I first went to Key West for his nephew's wedding and we absolutely loved it! But, I don't think we should tell too many more people about it 'cuz then it will get too crowded so SHHHHHHH!

Bri it would not be any fun without Jon - just saying. I'm from a gay time, when was not ok to 'Out Loud', except in KW, we loved flying into Orlando spending time at DisneyWorld/Epcot and renting a car and driving down to KW, seeing all the other 'Keys' and then going over that 7-mile bridge where the sky and water was so blue it literally takes your breadth away; and you cannot see land when your 2 miles out - life was a fairy tale for us, all of the anti gay BS was absolutely left behind we were finally free, free, free. The memories we had there are some of my most treasured.
I loved the Keys but it got a little bit boring after a week so
we moved up to the Everglades and toured around.
Lots of great sights and scenes although my friend Brian
got really badly bitten by mozzies.
Nevertheless we had a fun time overall: the hot tub scene
amazing dishes, beautiful sunsets and the "gators" were so inviting!
The Everglades are so cool. I’d love to do one of those giant wind fan boats!

I moved there 1976 and 40 years when it was true paradise I was 35 now 82 and no longer there!
It's torture to leave KW to go back to the frigid work grind. I've spent mucho time there, starting back in the 1980's. Dad also had a winter house 30 miles before the entrance to KW. In my early 40's, out fishing with Dad on his boat, knowing I was due back at work in NYC during a very frigid winter in 2003, it dawned on me how insane it was to leave, so I made the decision to quit and retire, because fortunately I had that option. One of the best decisions I ever made. Promptly got a hurricane proof winter place in FTL, and treat myself to periodic excursions to KW. Perfect place to go with a BF. Gay singles scene has declined drastically compared to the 1980's, because South Beach consumed that crowd. Now FTL is consuming the gay Miami crowd.
Hey, if FTL/Miami is taking the big crowds. That’s fine by us! More of Key West for us to enjoy❤️

My Dad had a house on the water in Little Torch Key. Every trip out on his boat went past Little Palm Island. I still know where the good fishing spots are. 😊 LPI is where PT109 was filmed. Primo vacation resort for the social register crowd. My siblings and I would also go out there on Dad's wave runners and go snorkeling. That's around mile marker 30. Sometimes I stayed at Dad's, but also had many long stays in KW for a more immersive gay experience. 😁
