My favorite part of this is just how MILDLY offended Death is at being called a thing. He's not "how dare you, you insolent wretch!?" He's more "C'mon man, that ain't cool."

My immediate response to Death:
"No...YOURS!"
Keep in mind: Trevor is canonically one of the weakest Belmonts and he was still able to defeat Death itself in 1v1 combat.
Imagine if Death had faced Simon, Juste, Richter or Julius instead...
Isn't it Leon?
@@Durinson1 leon defeat the forgotten one and death too, so he probably one of the strongest belmont.
@@pogchamp9746 isn't Gabriel who defeated the forgoten one??
Yeah, but this isnt working with canon at all. Hector as a Forgemaster was strong enough to pretty much beat Richter, Isaac (whom I still like better as the original, granted, Isaac on the show is a better character overall, but god damn, unhinged magnificent bastard Liam O'Brien is SO GOOD on that role even with a poor script) AND Dracula, and here he's just...well.
That being said, yeah, Julius would have handed everyone their own ass.
@@KairoStark Hector never fight Richter since they were centuries apart from each other. Its Trevor that Hector fought in Curse of Darkness.
They genuinely made it feel like a boss battle, and that was exceptional.
Trevor started out as a loner cynical drunk who didn't give two fucks about humanity, he ended up as a badass warrior willing to give his life for it, a man worthy of the name Belmont, and now he gets to enjoy with his family, you earned it, Trevor Belmont.
His character journey is absolutely inspiring.
Trevor absolutely lived up to his name as a Belmont.
His Spirit was broken, but then eventually he found the will to fight once more. you see it wasn't losing the ancestral family home that broke him it was losing faith in humanity but now he has finally regained what he had lost, and now can finally live up to the name his household once held pride In as a Belmont.
“It’s time to give this place back to people who build things. You and I are just killers of history. It’s time for us to go”
This is one of my favorite quotes in the entire season. He managed to understand his limitations and see that the others would be more suited to help others in the trials ahead. His character development is amazing
@@turma8eac and I'm somewhat convinced that it isn't his last appearance and journey. After all, Castlevania is a large universe and this Trevor is a really charismatic persona.

"Probably not. But let's just give this one last go. Shall we?"
This quote made Trevor top-5 characters in entire fiction for me. He knows he will most likely lose and die, but it doesn't matter anymore because it's his duty as a man to protect woman he loves, his duty as a father to protect his unborn child and his duty as a Belmont to protect Walachia people from a great evil. So kind and courageous man, a true Belmont for sure.
I love this comment so much 👏👏
Fuck Death!
For me, it was the steel-clad balls required to carry the weight of the line:
“Oy, Death. I want a word with you.”
Also that he no longer fears death

1:45 This shot is just so Castlevania. The show wasn't perfect but it's still a miracle it even exists and good as it is.
I like how trevor doesn't just magically bullshit his way into defeating death through "the power of friendship", his attacks landed but did no damage even when he let out a furry of attacks which only blinded death (I believe death screaming is akin to a person getting ant bites: it stings but ultimately doesn't do much). It's only through the God Killer Dagger that he was able to kill him.
If this was yugioh, the power of friendship would have won every time.
plus the infinite corridor escape
He actually did damage him though,it just took a while. Just like a classic videogame boss fight, he was unfazed by the first two attacks but the 6th and 7th he felt damage which is why he was screaming and getting frustrated, then hit him with a desperation attack to get the battle back in his favor and slow Trevor's momentum. Yes Trevor needed the dagger at the end but it was his skill and prior damage that even got him in position to use the dagger in the first place.
@@2Good2BeTrue45he is frustrated because Trevor is a mosquito. He is tiny, weak, annoying, quick and refuses to die from deaths perspective

Some people are like "oh if Death is dead then does that make everyone immortal?" But the thing is that this creature, this *thing*, doesn't actually cause people to die. He is something that feeds on the death of other things. That's why he wanted to respect Dracula and his wife into the body. He wanted more food.
To add to the argument. He never truly dies on the series. More like he explodes just for him to regenerate later on. Kinda like majin boo but without the gumball e
@@erikfigueroa6390 well, it's implied that he does get killed because the knife is capable of killing *God* and death is less powerful than that
@@MathasiaJ they always implied but that thing already came back even after fighting leon, Soma, AND PROBABLY Julius. So never consider death gone for good. 😩
In the games he isn't "this thing". Death already explained why he would never die in Lament of innocence. He stated that as long as the dark lord existed and the source of the power was intact he will never be dying and will keep coming back. Death's concept will exist for all, he only favours Dracula because Dracula is the king of darkness and hence he is Death's master
God will die too, Dean.
This scene displays a total, 100% understanding of the source material, the love and care for the franchise by those who made it. Unlike some other Netflix adaptations that seem to do everything in their hands to fuck up the property and do the total opposite.
Yessir
Except the 4 sisiters arc… that one was kinda shitty ngl
@@JesusDoBem666 I felt the 4 sisters arc was a very forced attempt at "representation". Like the writers just tacked that on so Netflix wouldn't bother them and let them finish their story.
Like checking a box but in a good way. "Yeah they are lesbians whatever, now back to Trevor...".
I liked Lenore though, but that might be the masochist in me talking 😅 .. I liked her story with Hector and how it gets resolved.
What? No. God no. The fact alone that Dracula got his happy ending with his wife sticks a knife in the entire plot of the series. The Belmonts AND Sypha being at odds with the church rather than agents of and allies to it? The fact in general that there was zero positive features of the church in the series flies in the face of the series. Hell, Grant DaNasty never appeared because Warren Ellis thought he was a fucking pirate. Ellis is on record saying he never played the games, he read a wikipedia article about it when he got the job.

Death’s part in the story of this series makes you realize all those times you encounter him in games isn’t because he serves Dracula, but to ensure Dracula isn’t slain so he could have his endless food supply from Dracula’s killing sprees.
Well he does serve Dracula tho. In the games he is kind of a "drinking buddy" of sorts to Drac. In Symphony of the night he literally calls Drac his lord. But yeah the whole making sure he isn't dead makes perfect sense.

Yes, it makes you realize this because he flat out fucking states it.

“I like your cut, G”
Death: “And who’s going to make me go? You? With your little bit of string in your hand?”
*Trevor remembering the God Killing knife in his clothes* : “Probably not.”
I didn’t catch on to that. I thought he meant that he was going to fail in killing him but he actually meant that the morning star alone probably wouldn’t have been enough to kill death.
@@michaelbarquet3941 its probably a mix of both tbh it wasn't gonna be the morning star and I doubt Trevor really thought he was gonna win

well when he knows that his descendant ran away when facing a vampire he'll be really disappointed
Came back to see this Masterpiece right after seeing that scene with Richter! So disappointing.
I think simply calling Orthax "a vampire" doesn't really do him justice and paints Richter in a far worse light than he deserves to be in.
“Who’s going to make me go, you with your bit of string in your hand?
God if those words weren’t said by Goliath to David I’ll eat my sling.
I think they got Death perfect, an entity that’s been around since the dawn of time, was about to have Dracula give him trillions of souls… much like a 25 year veteran detective who was about to collect his pension but then found out he has to work another five years. It’s exactly how I’d imagine death talking and sounding like… pissed off, zero fucks to give, and slightly irritated by his enemies.
The only thing they messed up is that Dracula and Death aren't Homies.
@@wilfredynunez5263 And that Death is a pitiful elemental who swears like it something clever or threating.
Especially when they're actually fighting back when having almost NO chance and yet finding the way to prevail.
This fight speaks volumes metaphorically
@@bossviper2833 at first I thought “this isn’t how death should sound” but then I thought it’s been around since the dawn of human existence, and like vampires, the longer they live the more they adapt to the environment around them. One living in the Roman Empire would act much differently thousands of years later in todays environment. I think it’s the same with Death, and it was obviously very disappointed that Dracula wasn’t coming back to wage war on the humans. It’s not what expected, but he kinda grew on me lol.
@@blaydeesy2005 Well good for you but it doesn't for me.
I love how the first time death swings his arm Trevor jumps through his fingers, so the second time he does it he closes his fist. And it works because of that. Such a little detail that secretly adds so much.
And when he swung the last time to Trevor's blinded side and Trevor realized he couldn't dodge in time.
They capture so well being a Threaded Cane build in Bloodborne. Every boss fight pretty much ends up you all over the place, thinking you look cool, just to get swatted like a fly at the end.

Death’s boss-level comebacks to Belmont are unforgettable,
“Are dictating your fucking obituary to me , Belmont?”
“Are you going to make go with your bit of string in your hand?”
My personal favorite was when he said something along the lines of “I’m going to eat your soul, shit it out, and smother your fucking girlfriend with it.”
@@fissilewhistle That is exactly how he said it. XD
I don't get why people say Death needed some epic deep voice or some kind of filter to make him more intimidating. It's so much better hearing him talk normal and going _I'm so fucking done with everything today_
"Aw, he fell down."
My favourite part he is when Trevor goes "oi death, I WANT A WORD WITH YOU" ultimate badarsery
Nice to see Baraggan get some shine outside of the Bleach universe
Something about death saying the f word is so hilarious to me 😂
The castlevania anime is criminally underrated imo. This fight was absolutely fucking beautiful, amazing, impactful, intense and the stakes were higher than ever. This show is truly a fucking god tier hidden gem.
Agreed. This show is so fucking good.
is it actually underrated? feels like it rightfully exploded in popularity after season 1 and has just kept going from there.
@@BradTheDead idk man, i watch a lot of anime news youtubers and stuff and i also follow a lot of anime pages and none of them talk about the castlevania anime, i also never see anyone talk about it anywhere else, imo it is pretty underrated

When you can mouth off to Death itself like that, you've earned your stripes and then some.
Its only named Death, it's not Death itself. Both Trevor and Death point out that its only a spirit.
It's just a vampiric entity that sucks on soul. That's why he said that. It can be killed.
@@haystackbill6187 It wasn't so much to nerf him (I mean, look at him; he's still insanely strong) but to make it actually plausible that he can be killed (I mean; how would one kill an embodiment of death?), and I honestly like the change.
@@matthewmuir8884 That's the keyword here..."embodiment". Obviously it's not Death's true form, it's a manifestation in the real world. Dracula is literally the embodiment of Chaos itself and the entity opposite to God, yet he still gets "killed" by the Belmonts, because Dracula isn't Chaos' true form. As for how one could kill death...easy. If you're a sufficiently powerful reality warping entity that ranks beyond even death as a base concept you can just write death as a concept out of existence, just like the Beyonder did to Mistress Death in Marvel's second Secret Wars which, ofc, meant that nothing throughout the omniverse(every multiverse, megaverse, dimension, universe, etc.) could ever die.
@@matthewmuir8884 And yes, even Netflixvania's Death here pales before the one in the games. But he certainly got shafted way less hard than Dracula did, Netflixvania's Dracula is weak asf.
The comparison when they show how big death is to Belmont and when he dodged the scythe will always give me goosebumps
Is it just me or does it sound like Trevor is saying “oh shiiii-“ at 2:01 when the scythe comes after him again lmao.
"Is there a point to this? Are you dictating your fucking obituary to me?"
I love the personality they gave Death.
0:19 That subtle change in Trevor's face. That look of fondness as he sees her falling back to safety, knowing she's alive and okay. Then the subtle change in his facial expression to that of a grim determination and accepting he's almost surely going to die in this fight. It's sometimes the fine details like this that really make a scene shine, but most just remember the epic animated fight scenes.
My girl is safe, time to go to work.
It's actually common in war/battle. When people have loved ones to fight for but they know/believe those loved ones are safe they fight harder to keep them that way.
@@justinc882 Never fight a man with his loved ones in view, they will hit harder and feel less pain. They will willingly injure themselves to take you out all for their sake.
Yes it's those little things I love about this show
One of the rare occasion when english dub rules
Every villain: talks poetically in old English
Death: *talks like a shitposter*
Maybe i'm reading too much into it, but when Trevor tells Death "You don't create anything, you don't live. All you do is eat and hide," that's remarkably similar to Trevor's existence at the start of the series. All he did was eat, drink, and hide from the world, doing his best to avoid his family's legacy. That speech is his condemnation of the life he previously lived as much as it is a condemnation of Death.
Also, note that, back in Season 1, he said dying had never scared him. Back then, he didn't fear death because he felt his life was of no value. Now, he does not fear death because there are things in his life so precious that he will gladly lay down his life to protect them, and that his life had overwhelming value.
Long story short, Trevor Belmont's character arc has been a masterclass in writing over these 4 seasons.
I'd say you were reading just enough into it.
Spot on
Reminds me of the concept of Victor Belmont (not the one from Lords of Shadow), who was a character from a cancelled Castlevania game who was planned to have rejected his lineage as a vampire hunter.
The whole series is just awesome......
yeah its a form of projecting to show how much hes changed, how far hes come
its genius really
I like how death says "fuckers", too often do they make 'ancient' beings in shows far too classy, like they wouldn't adapt to social norms and culture.
It would depend on the ancient being. This one literally pretends to be others, so it would reflect a lot of social fluidity.
