Damn. Still impressive 2 decades later Mitsubishi was at their pinnacle of technology and success in the 90s. The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 and VR4 Spyder were both technologically advanced wonders that pushed the limits of what computer technology along with some extremely tedious yet clever engineering can do. Compare the 3000GT VR4 with what I think personally could be this Mitsubishi's MODERN and CURRENT equivalent rival. The only rival that comes to mind that is on the 3000GT VR4's level when thinking about it was the Lexus LFA or possibly the Nissan GT-R being produced in the late 90's and early 2000's. Think about it and try to think of another automobile that was so high tech when it was released compared to even it's main competition(The 3000GT and 3000GT VR4 had lots at the time too from the flood of new Japanese sports cars and high performance vehicles being sold in the US lol). Just when it comes to how many raw, previously so new that it was just finally being utilized and/or so freshly developed thus maybe untested, high-tech advancements were infused with technology, research, and development being put into one vehicle/company investment. The 3000GT VR4 showed that Mitsubishi was probably the most advanced automotive king of all of the 80's and 90's Japanese companies that were duking it out. This for a chance to create the best possible automobiles and sports cars at the time in many "Give it all that you got!" attempts to embed themselves into the US market by showing superiority in modern technology, with this being directly attributed to Japanese companies producing the worlds most powerful and advanced computers/electronics being so easy to access. This was because Japan has a closed economy that is regulated heavily so that Japanese companies were able to remain at the top because the competing overseas rivals had to succumb to having limited access to the Japanese industries that could help the outside company produce a product in Japan locally. This is thanks to the Japanese regulations usually being biased and one sided in favor of the Japanese company fighting over a foreign company when both companies are thrown into a conflict that requires legal decision making and a necessary conclusion. This, helping the fire burn hotter when creating the 3000GT VR4's reign, and topped off with almost overwhelmingly detailed and complex development processes that each Japanese automobile company competing in the US heavily was using, in each of their own unique fashions of course during the early 2000's and earlier especially, seemed to be uniquely incorporated into Mitsubishi's product creations which created a car with lots of personality which was infused with many purposeful trademarks that could be traced to MItsubishi's desired vision throughout it's glory days...

You see my handle so you know what I like. But.... how cool would this be? My 94 M6 Z28 ran the same quarter mile stock but I bet this car would feel so much more radical. You know between shifts if you do lift the boost falls etc so the turbo boost rush must be pretty strong and the convertible look damn, this would be something to have if all of the old tech was still working properly.
I'm still confused how this can be faster than modern cars with similar to less power number AND being heavier. I have a 2012 volvo s60 t6 and it has 300/325 and weights less but with way newer technology and best is around 5.9-6 flat 0-60.
Yeah I always like these versions of the 3000 GT actually I was next to a spider at a car wash about 15 years ago some young guy was driving it and he said it was his bosses that he bought brand new in 1995! And I haven’t seen one since except for on sale on eBay…And those are expensive I think I saw a spider VR4 going for about 35-40k Yeah I didn’t realize they were that expensive brand new I think I’d rather stick with the coup there MSRP brand new even in 1999 were around 47k!
It boggles the mind that this car isn't in the same sentence as the Skyline and Supra...it was in that class of JDM Super Sports. Gran Tourismo on the PlayStation is where I first laid my eyes on the GTO,little did I know I'd seen the Stealth before lol
The 1990s were Mitsubishi at its best. Its hard to believe that once great car company now puts out nothing but a Thailand made tin can and a couple of second rate compact SUVs. Has to the be saddest slide in automotive history.

Bought a 97 black with tan leather in 2000 with 25k miles…put 45k on it in few yrs before mom n dad pulled the plug so I didn’t get killed…hurt alotta z28’s…mustang gt’s..and cobras feelings and burnt couple clutches from launches but man that mfer would mat yer face in the side window I could hit curves so hard and if you lost ass end rear steer kicked in and was a life saver 1 or 2 times I was runnin from the law…$25,500 tax, licensed and on the rd and it’s still settin in weeds at the place I used to live where guy I sold it to left it….man what a shame..$50k car ruined…it sat 10yrs while I had it and needed fuel tank cleaned or took off with new pump put in cause he took it out after I sold it and man it was bad…the memories of wild nights round ol honky tonk bars racin…runnin from law…fightin the system like 2 modern day Robin Hood’s….just a county cover from hazard Ky..
Oh come on. Just upload the 91 VR4/Stealth TT review already! Stop teasing me!
Holy balls this thing was pricey
"A solid yet relatively lightweight.." 😨
".. retractable hard top" 😰
Mitsubishi what happen to you?
im a huge fan of the 93s this is how id get one later than 93
Amazing car! I had a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Spyder........ flipbook.
One of my dream cars
Anyone else pick up the 64k computer comment? Lol. Loved seeing these. Knew a guy with a metallic green one back in the day. Sexy!
Where's the segment about ASC? I'd like to see some footage of these cars being assembled.
Man oh mqn, mod 1990's especially 1996 was the golden yrs for Japanese auto manufacturers. They just dont make them like that anymore 😔
And it was too expensive to build more of them, shame. Now a few are found on sale.
You want a future classic, your looking at one right here.
That's one EXPENSIVE conversion to topless!
Always loved them.
I'm still confused how this can be faster than modern cars with similar to less power number AND being heavier.
I have a 2012 volvo s60 t6 and it has 300/325 and weights less but with way newer technology and best is around 5.9-6 flat 0-60.
John Davis is the man
I remember when these came out, I so wanted one bit being on a college student budget wouldn't allow for it
Yeah I always like these versions of the 3000 GT actually I was next to a spider at a car wash about 15 years ago some young guy was driving it and he said it was his bosses that he bought brand new in 1995! And I haven’t seen one since except for on sale on eBay…And those are expensive I think I saw a spider VR4 going for about 35-40k
Yeah I didn’t realize they were that expensive brand new I think I’d rather stick with the coup there MSRP brand new even in 1999 were around 47k!
It boggles the mind that this car isn't in the same sentence as the Skyline and Supra...it was in that class of JDM Super Sports. Gran Tourismo on the PlayStation is where I first laid my eyes on the GTO,little did I know I'd seen the Stealth before lol
Weight…they’re almost 4,000lbs. If the Supra is the Jag XJ220 this is the Porsche 959.
Money well spent I say, well spent👍😸
Is it a safe bet that they had someone hidden in the car to bring the top down or was there an automatic top down remote feature?
That's not a bet I would put any of MY money on.
this is sick af
The 1990s were Mitsubishi at its best. Its hard to believe that once great car company now puts out nothing but a Thailand made tin can and a couple of second rate compact SUVs. Has to the be saddest slide in automotive history.
Well... Honda follows very close. And perhaps Saab and Subaru. This electrification will drop few of those out 2022-2030...
Great looking cars, even by now standart..
This, and its sister Dodge Stealth were very desirable cars.
68k in 1996! I almost spit out my drink!
I remember wanting but never getting one, but I didn't remember that it cost so much. Mitsu was not so obscure back then, I drove a 94 Galant, which was ok to drive, but the least reliable car I ever owned.
"A 64K computer to control the roof". Rofl.
I can't imagine how expensive that top is to replace since the car is so rare
Wow the QT is slow. This thing would beat my 4G Eclipse off the start but I'd catch up with it very swiftly probably by 70 to be honest. Would be an interesting race.
yeah but with the top down?
64,000$& for vr4 back then!!i want it but was still a kid..lol
This car looks better than a Maserati and kind of looks like one too
And it had a 64K memory computer to raise or lower the hard top! 2:36
I have to hand it to him timing out that intro with the top folding. That’s hard to do!
Weren't the Dodge Stealth and the Mitsubishi 3000GT mechanically identical? I don't remember the Stealth being that expensive at all.
yes same platform, the turbo Dodge was still expensive near 30k range
The Stealth wasn't available in a convertible form. The hardtop convertible added around another $30k to the price of a 3000 GT.
Way ahead of it's time
Can y'all release first Gen Durango review.
Crazy how this sold out and Toyota had a hard time selling the MK IV Supra lmao
Man that top is sloooooooow
I have 1 of these in great condition Id like to sell as not having a trunk sort of limits its use but it shure is pretty and fast!!
I got my 96sl(Didn't want to drive stick and still have it). to think I spent what was about 60K in today's money.
Great cars.
what a wonderful car!
Mitsubishi should merge with Suzuki
Wow. A twin Turbo 3.0? Where did that go
Into new ford f-150s?
64K memory computer for the retractable roof. Wow!
Dang, still fast even for today standards. Granted this was like a 70+ thousand car in today's money.
John Smith granted whoever bought the convertible didn’t care about the loss in performance in preference for the merc like power hardtop
It was even faster if you didn’t opt for the expensive folding hardtop. The spider was more like a sportier SL from the era
Man that top was slow! I’d love to have one anyway!
Sold.
Back when Mitsubishi made interesting quick cars. Nowadays it's nothing but bloated SUVs and Camry clones :/
