    Back in 1995, Mitsubishi made a daring decision to create the first retractable hardtop convertible car since Ford attempted the idea back in 1959.
    What was the price for a car too ahead of it's time...a whopping $65,000, that's over $100 grand in today's money!

    Great video appreciate the education and enthusiasm. Im fortunate to have a pretty clean glacier white 1997 SL model and hVe added a 95 spyder vr4 like urs but in the martinique yellow pearl 1 of 13 loving it rips much more than the sl and oddly build quality seems better tjan the 97 so i believe 2nd gen was all their best efforts while 3rd gen they started some cost savings

    One of the most beautiful cars made in the 1990s. I almost bought one twice. Had an opportunity in 1998 but went with a Corvette. Then again in 2017 but went with a C7 Z06. I'm glad I did because these are quite possibly one of the most unreliable cars ever built. 20k miles, probably not much to worry about but all I ever see with these cars is whats getting repaired on em. God bless for taking the plunge. Its beautiful!. I still want one but its impossible to justify buying one unless you have millions in the bank and you can throw money away to upkeep it.

      Diamond Star Media yes that is a very very rare car! The odds of there being another spider with that low of miles is very very low. It's a bad ass ride. And it's stock! Best of all I need a guy who had a 96 Spyder that had 36k original miles on it and he sold it for 32k

    Nice video, glad to see you're going to keep it clean an mostly original! I've wanted a Spyder ever since my first 3000GT decades ago, but they're just so rare I wouldn't be able to bring myself to put miles on it, let alone mod it. So nice to see someone with a genuine appreciation for these cars; most people don't even know they exist. Subbed for more Spyder content.

    • @DSMnation
      @DSMnation  Před 6 lety +1

      "most people don't even know they exist" Best example of that? My local Mit's dealer's part's manager! The red reflective logo insert on the back of my 96 Spyder went missing. Wanting to get a part number I was told (quite rudely) "There is no such thing as a 3000 GT Spyder, that was an Eclipse only model." I didn't argue with him as his assistant came back from lunch a few seconds after he said it...."Wow , there's a 3000 GT Spyder in the parking lot with the top down." Still looking for the insert but I'm beginning to think it was an ASC part as it didn't show up in parts book at the other two dealerships I have tried. If anybody has one let me know!

    Congrats !
    I bought mine 18 years ago , second hand at 6 years old , I have not regretted it , its been a rock sold car.
    If I could give you one tip ? swap out that 6spd Mits oil for some Honda manual trans oil , night and day over the mits oil (Redline oil was HORRIBLE , , I tried that as well, worse than Mits oil ) , Honda trans oil also stopped my axle seals from sweating , they have been bone dry for the last 18 years and the tranny shifts like butter to this day , no grinding , nothing.

      Very cool to meet another Spyder owner! Great car isn’t it! Thanks for the advice, I was actually thinking the car needed some new synchromesh fluid because on a cold start the car has a hard time getting into first gear. I was considering royal purple but haven’t heard about using Honda’s. Is there a specific Honda fluid you use? And what would you recommend as the proper fluid amount for the trans? Thanks!

    • @hammerhome7879
      @hammerhome7879 Před 5 lety

      @@DSMnation Honda only has one manual trans fluid , its about $11 per liter and you will need about 3 liters to do the job , you will have some left over. There is a fill ..and a drain hole , simply fill until it starts pouring out the top hole that you are feeding it into. Cheers!

    Beautiful car. Middle gauge is oil pressure, not oil temp. Also the "upgraded 6G72" in the 2nd gens only has 20 more hp because they run at 12psi instead of 9 in the 1st gen. You could have pointed out that they have forged internals however which is the main difference.

    These cars have a hidden fallowing, they are good cars when they are maintained and worked on constantly. The biggest issue is they use the same clutch that is found on the DSM platform but for a much heavier car. Launching will cause the clutch to go out in these.

    That was the cost in 1995 and 1996. I own 2 of them. Both white Pearl with Tan interior. I have what I think are the last "in the bag" floor mats available anywhere. I am thinking about selling one this year. In 1995-1996 approximately 700 Vr4 Spyders were made. About 280 Pearl White. I have a 1954 Corvette...they made 3,400 of them. This is an incredibly rare car made during the days of the Japanese Supercar days. Amazing technology.
