Definitely one of the greatest doo-wop songs of all-time!
Sung by one of the most accomplished groups of that era. 🙏🏽🙂
The class of 58 😁
I grew up in Pittsburgh Pa. which is the home of the "Skyliners". I was a friend of Jimmy Beaumont , the lead Singer. Unfortunately Jimmy passed away a few years ago. Thanks for reacting to my favorite song of all time!!
I grew up in Pittsburgh too. I listened to KQV, KDKA and WAMO.in the 50's and 60's
The late Jimmy Beaumont had a Outstanding voice, may he Forever Rest Easy and in Peace.******
A True Classic... Very Beautiful Song...
17 y/o Jimmy Beaumont, is lead vocal-----------16 y/o Janet Vogel, hits that " high C " at the ending. It was the Spring of 1959. I was 12 y/o, 2nd semester, of 7th grade. Recorded in NYC, with Lenny Martin's 27 piece orchestra. ------------------MJL, 76 y/o
I was 1 year old, these folks are Pittsburgh royalty.❤
It's good you know this tune. You have good musical tastes pretty lady. Glad you're digging the classics! 👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶
Yes Ms.Angela....... beautiful reaction as usual....... glad you can get into the classics. I am going to subscribe right now because I want to submit requests. I'd be interested in your reaction to Summertime by Billy Stewart. Peace...... out....... lol
What a great song. Angela you just made my night. Play someore oldies sweetheart...the 50s and 60s had some awesome love songs.
those vocals and orchestration arrangements are off the chain...today's so call music makers are to be ashamed of themselves. when I hear these GREAT songs of the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's
As a former music teacher I totally agree. and listen to that singer go to the high range with total committment and force, and the soprano girl at the end blows me away.
Beautiful song and reaction 🥰
I love it when you realize you know it. You’ve been brought up with a great music background. ❤️
They don't make music today like this anymore.
This is gold music of a bygone era.
Things were not perfect back in the day, but the music made things hopeful. The music provided a get away.
Hi Angela, What an amazing all-time classic!!! This song is before my time, but I absolutely "Love" this song and the music of that era too!!! It's nothing like the junk we hear today; this song is a timeless masterpiece and thank you for your reaction, it is much appreciated!!!
This song is an evergreen.
And this recording is THE definitive version of this song.
It's one of those tracks where they just captured lightning in a bottle in the studio when it was recorded.
Great reaction. Very romantic. This song played a prominent part in the movie “American Graffiti.” Thanks and best wishes to all.
And more recent,in a horror movie :"dark harvest"
1958. When the little woman is waiting for me to come home from work. She brings me my house slippers, my pipe and a Martini. I read the paper as she prepares dinner. We’re having meatloaf and green bean casserole. The good life. 🚬 🥃
Stop your ridiculousness. That was over 60 years ago. Women have progressed. You can live in your little fantasy world though.
The Skyliners were one of the most popular groups to perform at The Apollo Theater and made numerous performance there
Definitely one of the greatest doowop songs ever. Jimmy Beaumont is one of the greatest singers ever. THIS I SWEAR,is almost as good as this fantastic song. Love love doowop.
That moment when that light went off and you recognized the song. :)
Ronnie Milsap had a great cover of it back in ‘91, but it’s hard to beat the original. Loved your reaction as always!
Also covered by Art Garfunkel
What a classic great song
Classic cryin' in your beer song .
It was a simpler, innocent time back then.
Jimmy left us with some good memories!👏👍😊
Thanks so much for going far back. Lots of great tunes ahead if you look at the 50’s. Do wop at its best!
YES, the Doo Wop era is fantastic…so glad you did this, bring us more!😊
Great to hear music from this era. Enjoyed this song ,the singing and the backing. Reminded me a bit of the Platters, as you mentioned Angela-Colin Ward
Good one sweetheart; Your voice is awesome! My parents used to play this and dance in the kitchen...If you would sing this I would show you how to dance to it lol
You’re getting into my boyhood music…Wonderful
Great reaction, you know how to enjoy good music.
You need to hear the most romantic doo wop song "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos.
Also covered by Art Garfunkel
Omg! I just traveled back in time. Listening to this as a kid on my little Zenith AM transistor radio!! Thanks Angela!! 😅
Growing up we used to have sock hops and play the 50s music ! Get dressed up like the 50s ! Great memories !
Thank you !
💓
Jimmy Beaumont had a great voice. The Skyliners had another big hit that sounds like 'Since I don't have you' with their follow up a year later with 'This I Swear' I remembered it featured in the movie La Bamba when Donna approached Ritchie walking home, the song 'This I Swear' was playing in her car.
Hey I found the clip 😃 czcams.com/video/K8_cZFzKOG0/video.html
Hi Angela! Nice that you chose a 50s song, I love 50s-60s music, was born in the 50s myself. This particular song by The Skyliners, was on the soundtrack to the movie "American Graffiti" (1973). Saw the movie in theaters at the time, then bought the music album with the soundtrack from the movie. The film takes place in the 50s, with many now famous film actors, and the music from the film is so lovely! I collect music, so I have a lot from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and also some from today. But, the music from the past is still the very best in my opinion. Platters is also in the film's soundtrack with 3 songs, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "The Great Pretender" and "Only You (And You Alone)". Feel free to make a reaction to one of those songs sometime. Good job, have a nice time.❤
Arguably the greatest doo-wop song of that era. Awesomely moving and majestic. A #12 hit and really their only big one, though they charted in the Top 40 a couple more times. As for the Platters, they were an amazing and very successful vocal group, though not so much in the doo-wop vein. You may be thinking of their "Only You."
A really GREAT SONG, but I wouldn’t classify it as Doo Wop. What about This I Swear. I think that was a pretty big hit for them plus a few others.
@@jjflash1645 Definitely a doo-wop song and included in every great doo-wop collection. Those background vocals make it so (as does the falsetto), I mentioned they had a couple of other charting songs but not as big as the one above, "This I Swear" peaked at #26 and "Pennies from Heaven" made it to #24. That's it.
"Their only big one"???? Wrong! Just because "Since I Don't Have You" was their biggest seller does not mean their other hits, especially, "This I Swear Is True" at # 26 was not a BIG hit. The numbers do not reflect actual record sales, only relative positions for that week. For instance, a #26 record in a particular month could outsell a #10 record in another month. There are records that never made the top 50 the have sold over a million copies and there are #1 records that never came close.
@@PutOnASweater "Hits" are judged by their performance on the charts. "This I Swear," their 2nd single, was a notable record for them but it was nowhere near the hit (by any measure, sales or radio play) that "Since I Don't Have You" was and remains. This is just a fact and common knowledge.
I love oldies , great singers back then
Good to see you happy Angela ! 🎉
Same here, didn't recognize the title, but as soon as the song started I knew I'd heard it lots of times. I was 8 when this came out. Guy could go incredibly high. I loved it. Thanks for allowing us to listen with you!
I appreciate you replying back sweetheart , cuz I just want to let you know that it's good that some people out there actually likes oldies, u know them doowop days back then , it also kind of sad that there's alot of people don't even try listening oldies , I listen to it when I'm alone sometimes but u listen to all kinds of music too , u keep listening to whatever you want to listen too babygirl❤
I know and love this song from the soundtrack to the movie "American Graffiti".
Thanks for sharing this timeless, smooth doo-wop classic. Nice to hear it again.
Angela, it was such fun watching your reaction, especially your realization of knowing every word. 😊. I couldn’t remember who sang it. They sound so similar to The Platters. Very good! ❤
Another great voice in Jimmy Beaumont. I think you’ll love their song “This I Swear.”
Classic soul at its finest ✌🏾
THANK YOU FOR PLAYING SOME GOOD OLDIES WE NEED TO TEACH OUR KIDS TO LISTEN AND SING ALL THIS GREAT MISIC BEFOR WE LOSE THEM -YOUR THE BEST
This is one of many songs featured in the movie American Graffiti! I believe Art Garfunkel did a remake of it in the 1970's, and it's one of my favorite songs of all time! It is purely ✨ magical!
1 more thing! Interesting facts! The movie was made in 1973, and it's about a Cruise Night that takes place in 1962! It's one of my favorite movies 😂 of all time! The best movie 🍿 John Lucas ever made!
George Lucas!!!
Great song and you have heard it Angela !!
This is an awesome song to slow dance to, the band sounds as though you lift off the dance floor in lovers land!! Very extensive use of strings along with the piano making double time!! What a classic, I was only two when it came out, But I still love it and am 66 years old in 2024!
Hi Ms. D., A beautiful and great song; course I am a sucker for this style.. ♠W.G.
Great song, sweet reaction.
Angela ----trust me, it was the Spring of '59, I was 12 y/o, 7th grade. ----MJL, 77 y/o
Another classic song from the Skylines is "This I Swear".
Thank u mom and dad for introducing me to such fabulous music RIP 🙏
Ok, remember now, it’s the Skyliners!
Awesome Street Corner Harmony song!
The Platters had the awesome song called "Only You"
Doo wop with violins! Who woulda thought?
Dang, I'm old. I was almost 10 when this came out...😢
Don McLean did a nice version of this was was a top 40 hit in 1981.
Angela I love your reaction to this timeless love ballad from 1958. I remember first hearing this watch the movie American Graffiti in 1973. I have loved it since and any woman I have dated heard this song, we would dance to it and fall in love!!! I'd like if you would react to Put Your Head On My Shoulders 1963 version by Paul Anka, he wrote the song himself and recorded it twice first I believe to be 1959 then again December 12th 1962, it was released in 1963.
The Platters were a great vocal group. I used to have a colleague that would try to sing like Jimmy Beaumont of the Skyliners, it was torture. If you enjoy the music of his time period, check out The Aquatones.
i have been into fifties and sixties for over 40 plus years I can turn you onto thousands of sides that were great so here are some the Flamingos on parrot from 1955 I'm Yours, Mellomoods on Red Robin 1952 I Couldn't Sleep A Wink Last Night and one more if you want to play any of these the Echoes from 1957 on Combo where Darlene Love first started singing prev. unreleased side Take My Hand and Marzetta Freeman is lead on this, the Skyliners actually recorded the side in 1959.
One of my all time favorite songs. Actually, I would like to hear your cover of this song Angela :)
Love to hear you comment on 2 songs paul anka all of a sudden my heart sings and neil sedaka..you mean every thing to me..vintage 1958 era
Maybe l have to join patreon for you?
Very similar to the Platters (they sing "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"). Art Garfunkel and Don McLean do good covers of this song.
What a bloody attractive lady, and a great song.
Lead singer Jimmy Beaumont.
Pittsburgh's own!
Thank you so much for sharing. This song by the skyliners in my opinion is the signature song for Doo wop. And I agree with you love the platters.❤
Sounds similar to The Platters. From 1958: Used in many movies & yeah, that is a doo-wop anthem. I was born in 1961 & love mid-to-late 50s music 'from b4 my time.' 🔥
Some more great performers from this era would be the Platters and the Drifters - great lead singers and great harmony. You'd love both of them.
❤❤❤
The played in in the movie _ American Graffiti.
Well.... "New Edition" sing a version of this too, and I think they sang it in the late 80s/early 90s.
You might enjoy the same song sung as a duet with Jimmy Beaumont and Donna Groom. It is on youtube.
It was in American Graffiti movie.
This why I love rock music 🎶
you ask for suggestions, heres 2 - - one from same time period as this song - - I Love An Angel by Little Bill and the Bluenotes, the other is much more current, The MonaLisa Twins, either Still A Friend Of Mine or Any Other Day, written by the ladies but a few years apart.
CZcams needs a "Love" button
Check out the Heartbeats-A thousand Miles Away-a doo wop classic that I know you'll love.
I thought it was Little Anthony and the Imperials....🌟🌹
Funny ....I listened to this exact tune on CZcams about an hout ago ......The DooWop tunes , and ballads of the late 50 s -60s ...Little Anthony and the Imperials , the Drifters , the Platters ..etc ....were a large part of our lives ...back then .....THEY were romantic tunes ...you bet !!!!!
This song is the Anthem of"Doo Whop!
Here are a couple that have never been covered by anyone but deserve to be. KD Lang Trail of Broken Hearts. Asa 1. Eyo 2. Jailer. 3. Fire On The Mountain 4. Be My Man. Nossa Mas Que Nada. 4 jacks and a Jill Master Jack
Ricky Nelson has a great version of this. This song reminds me so much of the movie American Graffiti.
If you've seen "American Graffitti" the movie, that may have been where you've heard it.
Check that; this song will definitely give The Band a run for their money. Great song.
I thought it was the Platters, too.
Also play their classic 1959 song THIS I SWEAR a great song
The female voice you hear hitting the high note, is the late Janet Vogel.
Ooh girl you sound good , pretty too lol
Patti Labelle did a cover of this song.
How many groups got the inspiration from The Platters ???
Did you hear los 5 Latinos ???
They openly Said...we wanna Sing like the Platters....in Spanish....and they did Pretty Hood
Tm Foust of Home Free did an amazing solo version of this tune. Check it out
You are a fun girl. You were probably just a young girl in the 50s. 😊❤❤❤
Art Garfunkel does a fantastic cover of this old Doo-Wop classic!
great great song. I also love the Art Garfunkel's version.....
I know you love really great harmonies so... try some of Tavares songs. They are great too!
Angela, you should check out Tim Foust's( of Home Free) rendition of this song. It has a very unique ending. 🎶🎶
Also try out New Edition's version from 1986
