Bread is a great example of the fantastic music that came out of the 70s.
The Best of Bread is a great collection.
I will definitely listen to it. I'm a huge 70's music fan.
Heard the guitar man at my job, I can't get this song out of my head 🥰.
The lead singer is David Gates. He wrote this song. Thankyou Angela for doing this song. Great job as usual.
For those of us who enjoyed bread in their youth Thank you.
Larry Knechtel on that powerful lead guitar. Larry received a Grammy for his piano on Bridge Over Troubled Water
I remember when I first heard it in 1972 , Bread was a very popular group.
You’re the 1st of many reactors I’ve watched to make the connection “hey that’s me…” great observation.
Thank you for posting this! 52 years on. Mystified then, mystified now! Soothing as honey, treasured memories.💙
Great song … Bread had many great songs…I wish we could teleport back to the 1970’s where music was SO amazing ❤️🙏🏻
Oh, l was lucky enough to be a teenager in the 70s..yes we had great music.. great fun fashion..and fantastic tv..Hill Street Blues.. Dukes of Hazard..Starsky and Hutch..and many more..and yes, I'd love to go back and live it all again.. a great decade to be young..😂🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👍👏🎵🪕🇺🇸
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 When you figure out how to get back to the 70's please let me know. I'm coming with you.
Oh to be young again.
@@graemeturner2536 I will for sure 😂
@@michaelv9929 I will hold you to that lol
13 years old when this came out WHAT JUST HAPPENED
In the early half of the seventies, "Bread" was one of the BEST "soft-rock" bands!
I swear everybody on the planet owned a copy of "The Best of Bread" back in the day! They were such an awesome band, with so many great songs. David Gates is the main singer/songwriter, with one of the purest voices you'll ever hear!
This is their top tune. One of the best of the 70's.
I think I first heard this song when it was released. I love the string section accompaniment at the end of the song. A lot of songs in the 60's and 70's had that going on. 1972 was a golden year.
Thanks Angela. This is one of the greatest songs from the spectacular 70's
I'll make a bold statement. The best stuff has already been done.
Groovy tune from 1972 Good times.
Love the fact you couldn’t stop smiling from the moment his voice came in.
They have many wonderful songs. Great reaction 👏👏
Makes me want to go back in time.
Thanks Angela! ❤🔥
He started in the cowsells as writer with billy cowsells and a great singer over the 1970s
Incredible song!!
Should be in the Rock and roll hall of fame a long time ago! Timeless classics!
I totally agree with you about that
Then the lights begin to flicker
And the sound is getting dim
The voice begins to falter
And the crowds are getting thin
But he never seems to notice
He's just got to find another place to play"
Happens to everybody. Father time is undefeated.
The absolutely amazing singer..songwriter..guitar playing David Gates. . His voice is mesmerising..there are SO MANY songs to suggest.. but I'm only going to suggest a few but also get their greatest hits because every one is a banger..
Diary..
Aubrey..
Lost without your love..
Baby I'm a want you..
Make it with you..
It don't matter to me..
Sweet Surrender
Then their greatest hits..l don't think Bread or David Gates got the recognition they deserve..because their music was classed as 'easy listening ' or 'pop'.. but the depth of the music/lyrics and voice is second to none. I was a teen in the 70s, so l obviously have loved their music for decades, and its great to see the younger generations listen and love the music of our era's..he retired from performing yrs ago..but still has his talent for writing and singing..his last hit was called Find Me..its about when someone dies and they go to heaven to make sure they find their partner that died yrs before..its beautifully written and sung as you can imagine..🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👏👍👏👏🎵🪕🇺🇸
BEST Bread. It takes you on a trip. My friend in H.S. introduced this to me almost 15 years after it came out. One of those songs that just grabs you
Big-time talent! The members of this band were studio musicians who formed a band. David Gates is the vocalist and main songwriter. He is still around today! Bread has many songs you would like. A big 1970's radio band.
Awesome song! I also fondly remember David Gates singing The Goodbye Girl. From the 1977 romantic comedy with the same title. Starring Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason. I was in college and working in a movie theater at night. This song played as the ending credits rolled. It still feels like a warm hug. Stream it if you can.
The best written songs that stand the test of time are ones that tell stories, and uses basic elements of music: Melody, Harmony, Tone [timbre], Rhythm, Tempo, Dynamic [expression, loud, soft and everything in between - and as Angela mentioned "PHRASING." the best perfromances by singers are the ones that never let their vocal abilties get in the way of the song, knowing that the song is about the story and the listener, and not them, screaming all over the place - its called "musical taste." Add a tasteful solist at the right places and backing orchestra, not computers and AI, with real human being musicians putting their experienced emotional touch to make it real. Then you're listening to true quailty music, like this, and not what the media tells you is music by repetition, and the sound of the cash register....this is the miracle of what most reactors are discovering outside of their "comfort zone."
This song is fabulous and way underrated.
The Wrecking Crew documentary is a must
David Gates wrote some beautiful songs in the late 60's early 70's. Smooth guitar and his melodic voice go together so well.
Love Bread, and Guitar Man is the best ever, they have so many great tunes, but this is at the top. Angela, they wrote a song called AUBREY, hope you take a listen.
Thank you!❤️👍
One of my favorite bands of the 70's had a 8 track tape of their greatest hits. Not a bad song anywhere in thier catalog diary is my favorite song by them. Aubrey is a close 2nd. Great reaction to this song Angela.🎉
Bread was a great band. David Gates brilliant songwriter and singer. ❤
"That's me!" I love that reaction. This is Bread's best song IMHO. I especially enjoy the outro, so gently haunting.
I agree with you on that
Absolutely one of their greatest songs, and yes, I LOOOVE the string part on the outro.
Highly underrated song and guitar solo. I was eight when this song first came on the radio and it just gets better to me with every year that passes.
The word gets thrown around way too often but in David Gates's case it fits perfectly: He is an absolute musical genius.
Your reaction to "Everything I Own" is as good or better when it comes to Bread songs. I'm glad your making mention of instruments speaking to you. So many songs reinforce their message with the instruments😊!
This was the first song I remember hearing by Bread back in 1972 when I was just eight years old and it's still my favorite Bread track. The wah-wah guitar was actually played by the band's bassist, Larry Knechtel. Before joining Bread, he was a member of the legendary group of studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew and he's actually probably best known for playing the piano on Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water. As for this song, it's been 52 years since I first heard it and it still gives me chills.
Thanks for the info. I knew he played the piano on Bridge but didn't know he played the wah wah on this song. Two of my all time favorite songs.
Bread is a great band.
I knew You would Love This Song ❤❤❤❤Gorgeous as Always!!!
Wonderful song and a lovely reaction. So glad you liked this!! 😅
Great song and reaction
Very underrated band. Not forgotten, just underrated. Played every day in supermarkets and shopping malls. Smooth and mellow yes, but the sound still feels and sounds new and has stood the test of time.
Larry Knechtel on lead guitar. RIP.
Thanks Angela,
We all fall in love with Bread
So many beautiful melodies, beautifully crafted words
Straights into your soul
A song for every emotion
You're right: he is singing about you, Angela! Got a little excited when I saw you were reviewing this one: I knew you'd get it and love it. Thanks for sharing!
I always did like this song❤Great choice!
I saw Bread in the 70's at a sold out concert at the Seattle Coliseum and it is still one of my all-time favorite concerts. The opening act, believe it or not, was a group called Steely Dan! What a night to remember! David Gates wrote so many great songs that's it's hard to pick out a favorite. After Bread broke up, Gates recorded his first solo album called "David Gates First" which I highly recommend as it has some more great works of his. In my mind, Gates will always be one of the great song writers of his generation.
Wow, I was around when this song came out. Can't believe I have never heard it.
Nice. This is why I follow you.
Great song havent heard this for a long time love the guitar 🎸 for me the sound of a guitar be it a smooth sound or a heavy rock sound gets to my soul love it
Bread has a lot of good songs.
Yeah, cool. Great to see your reaction to this Angela. Nice pick by the requestor, well done!! Thanks.
@Dayone- The lead singer of Bread is David Gates.
LP: Harry Chapin's Greatest Stories Live, Song: "A Better Place To Be" His songs are so well written you will feel like you just got done watching a movie.
HECK YEAH...
Love some David Gates and Bread . Great song!! Thank you Angela
This song 🎶 is a jewel 💎 a 10 plus well crafted very simple and clear message today’s artist have better technology and tools to make a perfect song even auto tune but those can’t find the inspiration to create a masterpiece like this !!!!
Wah-wah effect makes me cry...
i was raised up on awesome players
its about time you all find my music
Lovely Angela.
David Gates had 1 of the smoothest voices ever.
Yes he did.
Brilliant
Thank you for the beautiful reaction, Angela! I am so pleased to see you back healthy and well again! Keep up the great work on your channel!!
❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤
You're exactly right to put David Gates up there with the likes of Gordon Lightfoot and John
Denver. Singer/songwriter/musician, Gates has penned some of the best and enduring songs
in our lifetime. The album, Best Of Bread is an all time classic. Great reaction...
Speaking of John Denver, he wrote and performed "This Old Guitar".
Maria Muldaur's voice is unqiue, yet inviting. This is a song that paints a musical tapestry with the "Midnight at The Oasis" theme about a romance in the desert. The elements in the lyrics..."Send your camel to bed," "Shadows paiting our faces, traces of romance in our heads," "Let's slip off to a sand dune, real soon nd kick up a little dust," "You won't need no camel, no no when I take you for a ride," etc. If you listen to it again, it might make sense. It brings back great memories of the 1970s! Thank you for sharing it! 😄
You have commented on the wrong video. This is a video for Guitar Man by Bread
Listen to “if”, “Aubrey”, “Make it with you”….. several others. Great job, Angela
Loved David Gates and "Bread".. Came out in my Junior year of H.S.
Great job Angela
Thanks Angela!
Listen to "IF" by Bread,It's great!
Angela, great choice... Listen to the words...
That is You!!
Check out his solo song Goodbye Girl…
you are such a sweetheart!
Hi,keep going with Bread ! Love it !😊
Love me some Angela! 🥰
🤘🤘
Guitar players need to mention Gary Moore he has emotion in his guitar. Good reaction, good song.
This song calls to mind another 70's classic that's right up your alley Angela, if you haven't reviewed it yet- "Jazzman" by Carole King. More upbeat, too.
This is one of my favorite Bread songs but they had several hits. I might suggest Aubrey by them. David Gates is the lead singer and wrote these songs.
The lead singer and primary songwriter for Bread is David Gates who also had a fairly successful solo career in the late 70's.
loly pop loly pop
The jester in a cast was Bob Dylan was in a cast from a motorcycle crash.
David Gates lead singer for Bread, they have a whole pile of awesome tunes, but most are ballad and to some sappy, but i love them........their best love song is "IF" you should do a video on that one
David Gates is a tremendous talent and is overlooked by the music industry too often.
And David Gates was living in Tulsa the same time as JJ Cale, Leon Russell and Elvin Bishop. Tulsa has spawned several good musicians.
I love Bread and David Gates... Give Electric Light Orchestras.... "Down Came the Rain"... a listen....ELO does excellent work.
Slide with the wah pedal 🎸
David really nails it. Listen to Aubrey...
Aubrey is a great song by them.
David Gates is awesome ❤❤ i was 9 when this came out but still felt it so good.....
Hi Angela and everyone else! This may be the last comment I leave! I don't want to disclose any details, but let me get to my comment on this song!
Bread is from Canada, and the lead singer had a solo career after his stint with this band, but in my opinion, he truly shines with Bread! I echo your opinion on this song! As I've said many times, music is trancendal, mysterious and beyond magical! It can take you pretty much anywhere in any time period! It can give you the most agonizing and darkest emotions, and can also raise you to the highest levels of elation and joy! And everything in between!
I wish you the best with your channel and with every other facet of your life as well! Good luck, take care and goodbye!
David Gates & Leon Russell had a band in highschool
60's and 70' that's me Rick C age 71
HI ANGELA!!! 😊 HOPE YOU'RE DOING GOOD KIDDO! 💯
