  • Review & Demo on the latest update to one of my favorite mini-midi guns, the ANi R160-Q, this gun is only available in 1.0mm & 1.2mm set-ups. I have found the biggest difference in this gun from the previous version is that the fan is a fair bit larger, I am also told there's been a few other minor build quality upgrades, like the seal behind the fluid tip.

      Gaz Sto depends on mini gun , however the old black ani is around 4 cfm , I’ve have been using this a 1500watt silent air compressor which is 5cfm free air delivery or 140 litres per minute free air delivery. Be aware of companies not showing free air delivery , a lot of companies will show pump displacement or intake air or there own litres per minute,

Been looking at this compressor Hyundai HY27550 11CFM, 1500w 2HP, 50 Litre Oil Free Low Noise Electric Air Compressor, which has 11CFM/ 300 litres per minute and a 50 litre tank capacity, and a maximum pressure of 7 bar/ 100psi. The same gun as in the review The Gunman, ANi R160-Q with 1.2mm setup. Just wondered if it could be run on a smaller compressor, half the size and from your decription I think it would be fine. I will check the free air delivery and see if that matches with your info, thanks again!

      Pete can you assist mate, I can see the fan control and the fluid, whats that flip leaver at the back of the gun? Could this run on a 24L compressor 2HP motor/displacement 206l/m (7.3CFM) 8Bar (116psi). Also does it need a cheater valve? Recommended by SprayGuns Direct and spoke with Ian, but wanted some independent advise regarding the gun, the use and the compressor. Required for Spray painting fine finishes on cabinets (woodwork) using water based paints and primers.

    • @peteshelby21
      @peteshelby21 Před 3 lety

      @@gazsto9510 The Flip valve on top is for Air control, I just set wide open and set my psi pressure with then Air Pressure regulator I have on the gun. I use ANI regulator, best for the money around 27$ us dollar. And you want that set around 27-30 psi. Remember to set it tho while you have trigger being pressed to have accurate psi setting. Some at big shops that have industrial booths and equipment use regulators at the compressor but keep in mind you have to add in the amount of air hose line to configure in loss of air travel. So best to get Guage at gun air inlet. Also I use a 30gal compressor that works just fine for a pull paint job on cars I have done. You can get away with 15-20 gal as long as you use the HPS ( also known as LVLP, LoW Volume Low Preasure) tips not HVLP tips. Spraygun direct is a great site esp for the price. But personally since I have 4 ANI guns and all the ANI regulators. I go to prpshop.it
      Its webpage for main place that directly deals with all ANI products out of Italy. And their customer service is awesome. As is sprayguns direct. I just personally like dealing with the main ANI source when Buying their product. Plus their prices are not far off like sprayguns direct. And also they carry the black coated guns which spray guns Direct does not. I personally like the black ones.

    As a painter myself with over 40 years of experience, I love to watch you spray so evenly! One comment - you don't seem to mind having the air "Pressure" or Air Volume regulator hanging off of your paint gun. I hate to have the bulk and additional weight of the air regulator hanging off of the gun, and I don't like to mess with adjusting the air pressure very often on the booth air regulator. I find they get majorly in the way when trying to do many of the intricate and complex parts that have me head for one of my Mini guns (and even with full-size guns, I hate the extra bulk)
    I've primarily gravitated to the SATA over the years and love the way it sprays. I was going to order a Sata MiniJet 4400, but am debating the ANI R/160 instead. I watched you spray with both, but with the ANI, you attached that dreaded air regulator. Is there a reason you don't (or maybe it does not have) the integral "Air Micrometer" with the ANI gun?

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  Před 3 lety +5

      Personally I barely even notice the gauges on my guns, they definitely don't annoy me. But each to their own.
      As for the ANi, they do have air valves on them. They're actually called manometers.
      Just be warned the build quality is nowhere near the SATA, I have had a couple of them fail over the years but to be fair most of them are fine and they definitely are a lot cheaper, you'd replace one and still be in cheaper than the SATA. Just be warned. But they do spray really well, I have also found some of them have small air leaks, but it's never been something that affects the way they spray.

    I do wheel repair and refinishing and have a Sata MiniJet 4400, DeVilbiss SRi Pro Lite Micro, Iwata LPH80 and 3 ANI R150 T's.
    Next hopefully will be the Sagola Mini-X. I like the fact that there's no o-rings or seals between the air and paint. So when I do get 1 or 2, they may me my last and my go to daily guns.
    But for now, I am always using the ANI's, they're consistent, easy to set up, easy to clean and like Gunman said full bore and go. The seals did shoot craps so I order some seal kits and figure for the price and same shipping rate, why not try the ANI 160-Q. For wheels I go 1.0mm tip all day.
    Honestly for wheels, I feel the Sata and DeVilbiss are just too nice of gun and since wheels are small in comparison to a bumper or panel or two and you're doing multiple wheels, you're quickly cleaning the guns all the time and kind of rough with them. The ANI is a quality gun that is cheap and produces a high quality finish. With them being a great price, you don't feel to bad about being a bit rough or quicker when setting them down or hanging them on the gun holder. Plus it's a great looking gun that is nice in the hand.
    Now I just need to learn how to make videos .🤔

    Hey Gunman I really have to thank you for the reviews you post, in particular those relating to the ANI mini guns. I purchased an ANI R160Q HPS 1.0 nearly two months ago and it has changed my world so to speak. Unfortunately I was on a budget after having made the wrong choice paint wise for my studio so finding your review about these guns was such a game changer for me. Straight off your reviews come across as genuine, honest appraisals, something I could make a purchase decision off with a certain level of confidence unlike 90% of the reviews out there that are just comments that may as well have come straight out of Chinese marketing brochure.
    One question if possible: With the CFM of these guns being so good (low) yet their operating range being approx 40-59 psi is it just a personal preference as to whether you use hvlp guns running closer to 20 psi or are there specific outcomes being achieved in these cases?
    (It baffles me as to why these hvlp guns typically rate at around 7-10 cfm as an example compared to the ANi at 3cfm- but understand if you cbf going into that one for me.)
    Cheers 👍🏼

    Excellent and very informative review. I only do the occasional bit of spraying on old motorcycles that I build up. I've been ok to achieve sort of acceptable results with the cheapo guns that I bought from bike shows.... but 'sort of acceptable' is a pretty poor standard given the amount of effort I have to put into getting there. Time to get a gun that's up to the job methinks. I was looking at the DeVilbiss FLG G5 (1.3), but the tiny compressor I have is a bit on the FLG5's limits, so I figure this ANi R160 Q should fit the bill better..... Like I say mate.... very informative and helpful.....

      Personally i'm not sure if i like the bigger fan. For smaller motorcycle parts i prefer the R150 over a 4400 minijet because of the smaller fan, much less overspray and easier to get a wet coat.
      The R160 seems to have the same fan width as the 4400.

      @@Harolddespui yeah fair enough , not sure how the fan adjustment is on the new 160, but maybe it can be narrowed down, I usually think of these guns in terms of smart repairs or spot repairs, if I was into more intricate or detailed work I’d probably be looking at an Iwata LPH 80 rather than the ANI R 160 specifically for the smaller fan pattern

    I build electric guitars and occasionally I need to spray a fade out sunburst finish on a body. Bearing in mind I would only use the gun occasionally and I can't justify spending big bucks what would be your feelings about some of the twenty dollar Chinese mini guns. I have an old Binks Bullows gun which is a good gun but it is really too big for what I want as I only need a small amount of paint for each job. I have tried one that a friend has and it sprayed OK for what I want using acrylic paint. Even if I have to replace the gun every year it would still be a lot cheaper than spending two or three hundred dollars on a top end gun. I know you are not a big fan of these cheap Chinese guns but I would only be using it two or three times a year and a guitar body is a lot smaller than a car so you are talking about a couple of hours use maximum. Look forward to your advice.

    Hey Gunny, Great videos, every one I've seen. I went to Spraygunsdirect but can't find where it says if the R160 is a HVLP or an LVLP gun anywhere in the info. My compressor is a California Air Tools model #6010 LFC, 1 HP 6 gallon tank and puts out max 4.0 cfm @ 40psi, I think they recommend an LVLP gun for it, and want to make sure it will handle this gun. Thanks.

      www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/index.php/a-n-i-r160-q-mini-midi-gravity-spraygun.html#sthash.l5LeQjYg.dpbs
      Go have a look at the LPH80 because it uses minimal air. But it'll only really work well for small areas.
      The R160 is HPS which is proprietary technology by ANi so it's not LVLP or HVLP, I think it stands for high pressure system but don't quote me on that.

    • @mikes1031
      @mikes1031 Před 3 lety

      @@TheGunmanChannel Thank you for that extra info. I don't plan on using it on anything larger than base coating / clearing large sign blanks / murals / portraits 2ft x 3 ft (61cm x 91cm), laying out stripes, blending flame jobs, motorcycle tanks & fenders type stuff. The LPH80 may be a good gun, but I can't afford it, living on disability. It makes sense to me to use the R160-Q w/ 1.2mm setup with my water base Createx paints, plus I'll never ever put 40 psi. through it either. I'll probably only ever use a psi of 15 to 25... 30 psi max. I'm just a hobby artist looking to grow a little. so with this info, do you still think I should look at the LPH80 ? Thank you again.
