    This change in Pitou happens a lot more subtly so its not surprising on first watch that you mightve missed it. But you start to pick up on it when Pitou sees Mereum cradling Komugi's injured frame and is moved to tears. That's when things take a major change in her (theres a big theme of all the ants constantly developing not just physically but emotionally).
    Also conversations like when Meruem asked the royal guard what his name is, also show this change and shows the difference in how they perceive him. Pouf replies his name is simply King and he doesnt need another name, while Pitou replies the King can choose whatever name he likes. Ultimately being a metaphor for Pitou supporting the King as himself and who he chooses to be while Pouf serves the title and who Mereum is suppose to be.

      I don't think there is a change in how Pitou sees Komugi or any other humans, like she said Komugi is important to someone important to her that's the reason for her current disposition, the only difference may be having her loyalty to the king be more emotionally charged.

      Obviously none of us like the interaction because we don’t want the two to hurt each other. But, what Gon says is pretty accurate. Killua isn’t as emotionally invested. I don’t think it’s unfair at all, especially when Gon is already at the height of emotion and tension. Under normal circumstances I don’t think there would be any hard feelings by Gon, but it would be infuriating to have your closest ally in the midst of hell end up agreeing with the person who’s caused all their pain for the last several months.

      Oooh interesting, I've always viewed this scene through the lens of the parallel between their dynamics being:
      Killua -> Gon -> Kite
      Pitou -> Meruem -> Komugi
      I like the additional layer of Killua recognising that Komugi is the King's anchor/humanity because he sees himself in that situation with Gon and thus sympathises!

    • @zavs350
      @zavs350 Před 6 měsíci +5

      @@Alellion That's a valid mindset to literally any kind of other scenario between friends BUT NOT WHEN THERE'S A LITERAL HUMAN LIFE INVOLVED. It's unfair because you're not supposed to act with your emotions in this kind of situations, it's the overarching premise on Gon's development since the beginning of the show. He always get his emotions the best of him even if it will negatively affect an innocent life or someone close to him. A stark contrast versus Killua who rarely does so because he was trained to stay calm in life or death situations. It's what makes them the perfect pair, and Gon knows that (see that Yorknew episode where Gon admitted that).
      I also think it's unfair to deduce this as Killua not being more "emotionally invested," just because someone has the ability to think analytically and calmly about things doesn't mean they care less.

    23:34 "I thought she's just healing her so that the King doesn't kill her."
    - All the Royal Guards are completely dedicated to the King. How they act out on this dedication depends on the Guard.

    - Remember in the previous episode where Pitou cries. She did not cry because she feared the King killing her. She cried, because at that moment, she realized 1) how much the King has truly changed and how much this girl means to him and 2) he ENTRUSTED her (not ordered her) to save Komugi.
    - The Ants are essentially newborns emotionally and mentally so when they are born they default to their base animalistic tendencies (for Pitou her nature was that of an uncaring vicious cat who likes to play with her prey). However, their humanity (positive and negative traits) slowly seeps in, influences them and integrates with their personality becoming a new/enhanced self.

Like Netero isn't the only person to survive a fight with Zeno's Grandpa. They are just the only two scrappers of their generation left.
    Feel Pitou would be ok if the King killed her. She really just does care about whatever he wants. If he actually killed her 100% of the reason she'd be upset is that she was viewed as such a disappointment and failure to the King.

    I think that when Zeno says to interpret what’s going on because he knew Gon and Killua would make a better assumption of it as they are really a part of the whole mission, while Zeno’s job was to simply use Dragon Dive and send Netero and the King away. So, I don’t really understand why people are confused about this because if Zeno tried telling them information, his advice could be misinterpreted, and would unconsciously influence how Gon and Killua act from hearing someone else’s opinion.

    Gons reaction is very realistic and not completely unfair. Its basically gaslighting. I mean imagine someone you know who acts abusive behind closed doors then you tell yourself "ok that's it next time i see them I'll stand up for myself imma tell them all these things and give them a taste of their medicine" just for you to see that vile person do a 180. It'd be very jarring and frustrating to say the least bc you're being denied. Especially in this context where this person killed one of gons role models and turned him into a zombie.

      SPOILERS BELOW
      Exactly! and Pitou actually lied about healing Kite so Gon was 100% right to not trust her....she's genuine about healing Komugi for the King but doesn't care about Gon and his feelings (she's not that human yet and even most humans care about their own first), she's just trying to buy time until her mission is complete
      the foreshadowing with Gon and Nobu convo was that Gon believed both times that he was facing emotionless monsters, only to discover that they actually had the capacity to care for others (in Pitou's case it's even more surprising bc she's an ant and when they met the first time she had 'nothing human' in her so the change is quite jarring to say the least)... so like he said to Nobu "Why can't you spare some of these feelings to think twice about the people you're affecting with your killings?"
      Pitou saying that she wants the King to 'stay how he is', when she ruined everything Kite was, is so tactless and infuriating to Gon as it should
      Obviously Pitou is going through huge changes very fast and you can see how both sides aren't wrong in their own objectives and feelings, same with Gon and Killua : Gon was wrong to say that basically Killua's lack of anger meant that he doesn't care but he's not in his right mind and it's so understandable
      Killua is obviously doing his best and he's doing great actually as a support role for Gon like he intended to be from the beginning but he can't protect Gon from his own emotions
      Actually he almost slipped there 13:44 the translation didn't include the word "teme"(hard to translate here to be fair) which is quite rude to say to a friend and it shows that Killua is getting emotionally compromised too he's showing his concern through anger even though he knows how Gon feels....
      No one can be perfect especially under such circumstances that's all... but for me their friendship shines even more through this hardship
      If someone goes through grief or depression or similar stuff Killua is quite the role model to help a friend (the only moment he wasn't there everything went south ep131...)

    WE IN THE ENDGAME NOW!
    This episode is one of the standout reasons why one should always, always watch the sub of Hunter X Hunter. You don't beat this kind of voice acting, and the dub doesn't come close.
    What a brilliant, breathtaking, emotional episode, with top notch animation on top of it. The many nuances, Gon being a child with a hand grenade on one hand and facing Pitou cold and calculated right after on the other hand. His thinking narrowed down just to Kite, to his wrath, to his desire for revenge, all those negative emotions piling up and the voice of reason and truth - Killua - being shoved away by those emotions.
    The sheer horror when Gon loads up his rock and we see for a second that he does not care about that dying girl being saved, that he's run out of room to care. The utter confusion when we see that Pitou has changed into an almost human-like person, using herself and putting her own body on the line to save someone because she is important to the King. If this was JUST carrying out an order, Pitou would have assessed the danger the people pose to the king and disregarded the order if she deemed them too dangerous. But here we see that it's both an order and Pitou having grown to understand the desires and emotions of the king and empathise with them. Pitou has learnt empathy. Gon has discarded empathy.

Gon has been building that rage for a long time and to finally get his chance at revenge interrupted by the ant who killed kite (and turned him into a puppet) trying to save a humans life first is such a tough situation to deal with. I think gon was both separating killua from the situation and kind of and being real about killua not caring as much. Killua cares about gon and everyone else doesn't compare. Like Morgan said killua is not used to having friends so he's not going to care about others that quickly and he had just met Kite. Gon cared about kite way more than killua especially in Gon's eyes. Gon is wrestling with the fact that someone that could so casually take the life of so when he cared about.. could also Express, those same feelings for someone else. She's a specialist and still have huge potentials to further improve her nen abilities but time didn't serve her. Neither did for the other royal guards.

    Five minutes for recap and opening.. oof! Good adaptation with Crunchyroll's less than optimal subtitles but that letter was pointless.. the meaning was still clear, unlike other instances.
    4:40 Morgan: "I guess, maybe if they talked about it and she was like 'Yeah, I can do that'." Samantha: "Yeah, I can totally see it." Well, you got to totally see it after all! 😄
    4:51 Dr. Blythe is modeled after Blythe dolls: "created in 1972 and initially only sold for one year in the US. In 2001, a Japanese toy company began producing new editions of Blythe dolls."

    23:29 here where they discuss pitous motives for healing komigi, a quick step back, the king was distraught about finding komigi impaled and clearly cared for her deep on how “tenderly” he treated one’s life with upmost compassion and then asked pitou to heal her, where pitou jumped into action with tears in his eyes because he never felt more important to his king that made in “quiver in joy”(from the manga) and realizing she’s important to him than then she is to him. Chimeras are inherently loyal and deeply caring to their species, until mixed in with malicious humans from the ngl

    Some say that this is the episode where Gon starts to lose sight of his own humanity, which will be more apparent towards the coming episodes. He is willing to sacrifice basically an innocent bystander to get what he wants. Which, in my own opinion, is understandable since Kite is like a second father to him sometimes even more so than Ging.

      @@GentlemanQ I can understand why some hate Pitou and are happy when Gon destroys her.
      But to me i was digusted by Gon.
      Pitou was pretty much a new born following her instincts when she killed Kite, same as the King was when he killed the Children.
      So there was alot of potential for Pitou turning non hostile to others together with the King.

      @@henriklarssen1331 i share the same view with you! 💯 True. I also realised Gon in this arc turned into a complete hypocrite. When he was a child, he was attacked by foxbear and kite had to kill the mother bear. But then Gon felt guilty and even admitted that it was his fault infiltrating a foxbear dominated zone and she was only protecting her cube... But! Gon completely overlooked this logic when Pitou attacked them and killed kite. Pitou was instinct-driven and she also passed through a dramatic change in her personality to the best thanks to Komugi's meeting with the king. But at the end of the day, Gon decided to be a whining B and stick to his blind anger ntil the end. Gon suddenly became one of the most hated characters for me mainly because he stopped became himself, the old honest merciful Gon from hunter exam.

      it's not only revenge he still has hope that he can have Kite back, Kurapika had nothing to get back and everything to lose if he kept pursuing the Troupe and also had more time to grieve and mature and he IS older so that's unfair to compare the 2 imo... Gon is going through it you can't expect him to be calm and collected in that situation but he still stopped himself bc of Killua's words

    • @GentlemanQ
      @GentlemanQ Před 7 měsíci +3

      True. Gon's anger turned him into such a hypocrite delusional in a very short time. Gon isn't the type to swing fist first before talk but this time he blatantly did. Gon knew the Foxbear was excused for attacking him trying to protect her cube when he was young but with Pitou (aka yet another animal) didn't even ask for Pitou's drive or motive. Alots of ants later on grew some sort of human Sympathy from their original memories or human genes. I feel like Meruem was the level-headed character in this whole arc when he said to netero right before their fight "let's sit down and talk" and how he's ready to debate things out with him.

    There is a plot hole in these episodes Killua has no way of knowing about his grandfather's technique. He had no idea about Nen until he met Wing and the arc before that was the last time he saw his grandfather, so either his grandfather sent him a letter explaining all his powers or Killua already knew them and was too stupid to make the connection between his grandfather having super powers and the strange things that Ilumi and Hisoka did in the Hunter exam.

    • @DisProfundis

      Not a big plot hole. Plus normal people consider the shit nen can pull off as magic. It's not weird to their world.

    • @burgerwarts
      @burgerwarts Před 7 měsíci +4

      A plot hole is something that cant be explained by any means. This is far from a plot hole because
      1. We know Zeno has told Killua stories about his missions since Killua mentions this to Gon while infiltrating the country. Its safe to say Zeno just told him about dragon dive during one of his stories and Killua pieced it together, along with Illumis needles, once he learned Nen.
      2. When Killua gets a taste of nen for the first time, against Zushi, he says "its similar to my brother" so he probably already knew his family uses powers, or thought it was some advanced assassin technique, and just didnt know they did it.

    • @Lightkie
      @Lightkie Před 3 měsíci

      It's definitely a plot hole since he would not even know how it looks (remember: Zeno is not a conjurer), yet he identified it immediately. The bigger plot hole is them not telling Killua about Nen before he went to the Hunter exam (and that also means Zeno didn't tell him about his abilities) while simultaneously being hailed as the most talented of his family and future head of the household and yet his younger brother Kalluto is already out there helping the Phantom Troupe with his ability to track someone down while Killua is still learning the basics. I get that it's more convenient for showing his growth but it's contradictory.
