- In this Revenge of the Sith bonus DVD featurette, we take a look behind the scenes with Hayden Christensen as he and George Lucas talk to us about Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader through the Star Wars films, prequels to originals. Tons can be learned from this and I hope you watch all of it. I have about 10 minutes of my own thoughts on the matter after the featurette is over, let me know what you think, too. Have a nice day.

Lmao. He was a victim tho. Born a slave, separated from his mother no father, Jedi are more disciplinarians and commanders than parents/guardians/friends, Mom brutally killed in front of him Jedi did nothing for years to help her neither did he, lied to, held back, mistrusted, under appreciated, unliked. The monster before he became a monster was a victim of other monsters.
@@youngknowledgeseeker I don't think he was ever held back. He was immature, and his actions proved it. That's why they never made him a master. He was exceptionally arrogant. Sure, the Jedi are far from perfect and are very flawed, but they saved him from the life of being a slave. He _wanted_ to join them. As far as I'm aware, they never even lied to him, at least not in the trilogy. The Clone Wars TV series retcons a lot of things, and I have plenty of issues with that show, so I'm not even going to go into that.
@@Chopstorm. Still failed him hence Obi Wan “I have failed you”. He needed parents. He needed his emotions acknowledged and not shunned. He should have been taught to save his Mother when he told them about his dreams. He was held back in teaching “ I know there’s things about the force they’re not telling me”. I think in the clone wars part of what he wanted to learn, which required the rank of Master, was ways to save Padme from her death in his dreams which he KNEW were real. He made mistakes but so did the Jedi, they failed him and he really failed them

Anakin will always pick his loved ones over any order. Palpatine forced him to pick Padme over the Jedi. But he also made Anakin pick Luke over the Sith.
I never thought about that way but I like that!
A basic truth that so many cannot see.
Good point. I’ve always thought the only reason Anakin stayed with the sith for all those years was because he thought no one would ever love him again, so it wasn’t worth trying to break free of the emperor’s chains. I really think if Padme had somehow turned out to be alive, he would have turned on Palpatine immediately.
People say Hayden Christianson wasn’t a good actor, but he played the character how George wanted him to play him. My personal favorite actor is Hayden, he did a amazing job showing us how anakin had inner conflict which I loved.
The way he portrayed the conflict and the mental struggle was so well, he really portrays Anakin perfectly with how he was never raised properly and has no control of his emotions and the weight he carries on his shoulders
Rewatched revenge of the sith and his face and eye acting alone was brilliant and while people like to say he turned quickly, I think Hayden did a good job of portraying his downfall throughout the entire film

His silence on Disney Star Wars might be telling on how he feels about it. The sequel trilogy should have been Lucas's story. The reason why we love the prequels, which is George doing what he wants, not what the fans want, is because he started it, and it is his story. 10:14 Ewan paying attetion to Lucas in Obi-Wan's classic pose. Legendary.
I wouldn’t say Luke is just a “catalyst.” Yes, Anakin is the Chosen One but the entire saga is about both Luke and Anakin. George Lucas says as much on the BluRay commentaries - that the OT is about the son and the PT is about the father. Star Wars is the story of a family (and their friends), with particular attention given to the experiences of both the father and the son.

Hayden is actually a good actor...George has said he has trouble sometimes giving actors the proper direction.....check out "Shattered Glass" with Hayden...he's quite good
I'm glad people are starting to show appreciation for Hayden
I believe the real reason for why many people felt disappointed by the prequels and the portrayal of Anakin's character lies within the fact that whenever you get introduced to a character wether in a movie or a book your very first impression of them will always be your standart and will always have an effect on your opinion. And every other depiction of the character from that moment on you'd compare with your ideal one. So many people in the 70s and 80s grew up to accept Vader as this ultimate villain with no heart and you can't really blame them for that. They had their own expectations for what his backstory should be. So when the real one came out many years later it didn't meet those expectations and they didn't like it.
@YamiXeno well many prequel Haters tend to also hate or dislike most or all of episode 6 as well. The OT purists usually jerk off 4&5 the most

This reminds me of the old time before the dark times before Disney
Sequels needed Lucas. His films all follow 1 storyline - fall of Anakin & rise of the Empire, then Redemption of Anakin, the return of the light side, and the fall of the Empire. The Star Wars movies by Lucas are about the Jedi and the fall & redemption of Anakin Skywalker. So everything and everyone else were simply a background for this story arc. The saga began with Anakin as a child and ended when he performed a heroic sacrifice and destroyed the Sith. And 7-9 just ruined Lucas vision and ruined Anakin's sacrifice. He is still The Chosen One but Palpatine was alive...
I don't think the Lucas Sequels was about Anakin but we won't get what he wanted for episode 7, 8, 9 so who knows 🤔
@@masterjedi5674 That's right, imagine an end where the forces ghost wipe out "evil" in the Astral world and end the conflict between the dark side and the light side. Anakin could be involved in this.
More to the point even though George Lucas gave them specific guidelines for what he wanted to see in the sequels in terms of continuity and story, Disney pretty much threw this out when he sold the rights and the company over which is pretty much then giving George the middle finger when he was like ok I’m done with getting flak here you continue my vision
Anakin role wasn't to become darth vader, because you don't go "the father of my protagonist must be the villain" in the first movie when you don't know if it is gonna sell and have sequels or prequels. But when that first movie is really popular, you have got to up the stakes. So from Empire Strikes Back onwards, the subject of the movies changes to family. And the only reason they chose vader is because of invader, not because vader means father in another language. When they realized, it was like: Do it.
Joaquin RR Nah when you watch the special features for the originals and prequels George knew where he was going with every film, he always had a road map of where he was going to go, the original trilogy was always meant to be a trilogy and theory said in a previous video that George always intended to do 9 films, he just decided he’d had enough of them when he kept getting flak from haters of the prequels. Unlike the sequels where Disney sat down and went ok we have 3 directors who all want to bring something to the table and they clearly had no clue where they wanted to go with the story where one director sets things up in the first film then the next director goes off in a completely different tangent disregarding most of what the first director set up and dividing this awesome family we have in Star Wars fandom (which he said he always wanted to do with a film (maybe not Star Wars but with something). So sorry to say but George always intended a lot of what happened to happen with obviously some changes here and there as scripts always change as they are like beings in themselves always growing and developing
Hayden is the only one that captured this character fully!
Hayden Christenson is one hell of an attractive man. And he was absolutely perfect for this role.
Good points on Hayden's line delivery. I also had an additional theory. That kind of monotonous cadence is a common symptom experienced by real life sociopaths and psychopaths. I don't believe Anakin is a psychopath, but a sociopath. I say that because sociopaths are MADE, whereas psychopaths are born with mental abnormalities. Conversely, sociopathy often develops due to chronic traumatic stress. Anakin definitely fits that bill, and his behavior in adulthood is in line with what we see from sociopaths. He's very calculating, obsessed with gaining power to compensate from formative experiences which made him feel powerless, abusive to people who he sees as obstacles, has a wildly inflated ego and sense of entitlement, is somewhat narcissistic domineering, manipulative, vindictive.. The list goes on. Sociopathy is also characterized by a lack of empathy and ability to read and reflect the emotions of others. This is where the speech patterns come in, characterized by a lack of emotional content. These symptoms can also be observed in people with Borderline Personality Disorder.

@@decepticonxhunter4850 What does that matter? They're non canon and nothing to do with George Lucas, you know the guy who invented Star Wars? His statement on the matter is the only one thats important.
Once Lucas said anakin is the chosen it’s over anbody from Disney who says otherwise can go to hell
Has anyone from Disney said otherwise? I don't mean imply, I mean said. Has anyone from Disney said that Rey is The Chosen One?
Cyber Leader 16-914 yes they have, she “killed” palpatine bringing balance which basically Anakin didnt do anything. Instead she killed him and became the chosen one.
@@CyberController- TROS completely contradicts and destroys Anakins entire arc
@@Diagrams Anakin says in ROS "Bring back the balance, as I did". Anakin brought balance to the force. Nowhere in the prophacy does it specifically say Anakin had to kill Palpatine. There was galaxy-wide peace for 30 years after the prophecy was fulfilled, I'd call that bringing balance.
@@casetheace8494 I'm pretty sure S.W.T made a video on that topic, go watch that.
Love how actors refer to their characters as their name
Seeing this makes me desire a Vader movie even more!
FRRR
The chosen one he is
Anyone seen 'Jumper' with Hayden Christensen? Great movie!
So HAPPY that Hayden is getting the respect he deserves.
fantastic for sharing these videos mate.. its good to see the inner bits of the franchise well done!
He really did do a good job with this role. I really hope he plays a big role in the Kenobi series
In my opinion, Darth Maul is the reason Anakin fell from the Jedi and became Vader because he killed Qui Gon who was the father figure Anakin needed and not Palpatine. Had Qui Gon survived until episode 2, Anakin likely would have ascended to Jedi master
Well remember palpatine hated qui gon
@Benedict Ajegwu yes but qui Gon would've raised him better then obi wan who was in many ways like Anakin except he was brought in much younger but was also very abrasive and jumpy and hot headed. With a proper father figure Anakin probably would've mellowed way out as Qui Gon would've actually listened and nurtured Anakin's emotions into healthy ones and being an outsider to the order would've helped him find a balance between the Jedi lifestyle and a regular persons. I bet if Anakin still had this visions he'd at least talk to him and sympathize with him but if needed probably would've taken him to look for his mother because he's know how much Anakin needed that closure.
@Benedict Ajegwu I still think it was a huge mistake for the Council to make Anakin spy on Palpatine. Literally, in real life police officers are not allowed to investigate cases where the suspect is a friend or relative, lawyers are not allowed to represent friends or family members, etc for the precise reason that their relationship to that person might make them less objective and cloud their judgement.
They knew how close he was to Palpatine, and must have realized how it would increase his internal conflict and turmoil. If it was intended as a 'test' it was a very bad one, which he failed spectacularly.
it wasn't just one thing that influenced his fall to the dark side, there were many factors including his fear of mortality and attachment, and the jedi order forcing him to suppress his emotions
I always felt that Anakin really was the chosen one. It’s nice to hear it confirmed straight from the source but it just makes sense. How can one bring balance if they’ve only ever experienced one extreme? Perhaps he needed to experience both sides of the force to really be able to bring balance. 🤷🏻♂️
These videos have been such a treat to watch!
hayden did such a good job, the sequels don’t do anakin’s story justice :(

I feel people also rule out the fact that this is a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. They talk like Romantics because they're the chivalrous knights of their time, and their mannerisms aren't the same as ours. It's the difference between how we talk vs how a 14th century Knight talks
Yeah you can't compare star wars to other sci-fi movies, it's in a league of its own. Especially if you remember back to when Episode 4 came out
This was sooo cool to see the behind the scenes ✨
I swear Lucas is a whole genus.
He connected every single movie perfectly (IMO)
If you don't think Hayden Christensen is a good actor watch awake and I can swear you'll change your mind
Shattered Glass, too.
american heist or outcast too
Watching pretty much anything he's been in (yes even Attack Of The Clones), it's obvious he's a skilled actor. Definitely underrated in my opinion.
Divergent TARDIS agreed! people just need to view his other work
