      Hey there! We try and incorporate something for everyone, although we genuinely don't like the 'touristy' areas. We escaped Kardamena in Kos to go to the neighbouring island of Kalymnos as we got sick of seeing full English breakfasts and pints of Carling advertised. Local is always best and we always travel for the food as it's a huge importance to really appreciate where you are. We're both thrilled you've enjoyed watching what we've done and are glad to have you both with us on our journey. Your support means a lot to us. Take care Flossy and Erik! John & Becky x

      @@ParksTravelGuide You are very welcome. I will most definitely watch it. It’s hard to find good content of Marmaris. Myself and my family absolutely love it there. We have been going for a few years now but sadly had to go to Malta instead last year. We’re going for 28 nights so we can explore down by the marina. I always expected it to be expensive down that end. So I’m looking forward now, especially to have a decent cocktail 🍸. I really want to try the dessert kuneffe and now after watching borak too. Can’t wait to see your next vlog. Cheers guys 👍.x

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před rokem

      @@MOONWALKERLEE The Marina used to be expensive and some places still are overall. Don't get me wrong, the food prices will probably be higher as they hope to attract people eating with the special prices on the drinks but there's no pressure to eat at the ones who have the drinks offers. Finding Mugla Kofteci is something you shouldn't miss out on either. If you go to the back of the bazaar (Turkish side) and see Medusa Diamond and a sports shop opposite each other, go down that street and take the first right past like a Turkish chicken fast food chain shop. Follow it down and you'll see Mis Cafe (which was filmed), a greengrocer and then the restaurant after that. If you notice any faces be sure to tell them Merhaba from us! Have a great trip x

      @ParksTravelGuide  Před rokem +1

      Hey Richard. Things have changed massively over those 22 years for sure, but in our opinion it's not all for the better. As Marmaris became more touristy we feel it lost a lot of it's charm. Where once stood independent small Turkish businesses are now replaced with restaurants and bars serving full English breakfasts and Sunday dinners, but this has also pushed the prices up too. It's still beautiful, but we prefer the local end to the tourist one. Thanks for watching!

      Cheers! I did the Dalyan boat trip last time, with the turtles etc, but didnt use your favoured Mares company. So this time i will use them but i want to do the Cleopatra Island full day boat trip, have you done that 1 before? Also is Içmeler & its beach worth doing too, just for a day. I went to Turunç last time, but not there, i only passed thru it.

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před rokem +1

      We haven't in all honesty. Mares are the best priced in resort from what we've found and their shop inside the big Migros is great if you want to sort it out face to face, or simply book on their website at your leisure. Icmeler is nice and has the better beach but quieter than Marmaris. I'd definitely recommend checking it out even if only for half a day or a full day...if you get bored then the orange Dolmus runs very frequently back to Marmaris. We had planned to film it but sadly didn't get time as in the 7 days we planned on filming for 3 and having a holiday ourselves, but this quickly turned into 6/7 days. Turunc is worth a stop on a boat or a visit for half a day but we wouldn't stay there. Very jealous you are going as we could smash a kebab right now!

      @ParksTravelGuide  Před rokem +1

      Hey Emily. Unfortunately there's not much to film if we did it daily but it's lovely to hear that you'd want a daily dose of the Parks! Because of our shifts we don't often see each other or get many days off together most weeks. Catching up on sleep is normally the main highlight or doing the big shop at Morrisons. Nobody wants to watch me snoring or deciding if it's going to be plums or grapes for work this week! Haha! I'm a bit of a fan of the real ale and people watching at our local Wetherspoon's though. We'll occasionally pop into Leeds, have a curry in Bradford or catch up with some friends but it's few and far between these days. I (John) work for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service as a Dispatcher/Controller and send the ambulance crews on jobs. Becky works for an airline (which we can't name because of her contract) just up the road at Leeds Bradford Airport as a Duty Manager. We both work 12 hour shifts days and nights and we have very little free time...so they would be pretty boring vlogs! We are floating ideas about potentially a couple of local ish vlogs as we don't travel abroad during July and August due to the astronomical prices, but again it depends on time so we can't set anything in stone. What I will say is that you may be seeing a little more of us from the end of November. Curious? Of course you are! All will be revealed in the next week or two. Thanks for commenting love and we're really grateful for your continued support x

      Thank you so much for your reply! That’s such a coincidence that you work for YAS, I’m a student paramedic at Bradford uni so I will be working for them when I’m qualified. I feel you on the shifts not matching up, my girlfriend is an apprentice nurse so it happens to us aswell, I suppose it makes you more grateful and enjoy the time you do have together🤣 That sounds very exciting though I look forward to watching the videos in future, and you never know you might send me to a job one day🤣 thank you xx

    Hi Guys, just found your channel while searching for information about Turkey and Marmaris and thought your content was excellent and very useful. we are going next may for 1 week all inclusive and was wondering how much money to take, we do intend to do a couple of day outs and a meal or to. also would you recommend taking Euros to as well as lira. ☺

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před rokem +2

      Hey Mike. Many thanks for getting in touch. That's exactly why we provide prices so you can roughly tot up in your head how much it might cost you. An average days boat trip is £10-20 and then drinks extra unless you get an all inclusive boat trip which is a little more. Mares tours have a website so you can see their prices for an idea. The drinks quality is very poor though on AI boat trips, they use the same watered down lager on the beach front for the offers..worst pint John has ever had (and as a beer monster that's saying something!). Meals vary depending where you go and what you eat but about £20-£25pp is healthy. Ignore Euros as GBP is usually the currency of choice for shopping. Use lira for meals and in bars, although you can pay by card too almost everywhere. I'm not sure where we will be next May as it will be the back end of our 6 Month adventure around Asia and South East Asia but please say Hi for us if you see anyone and know we will be very jealous of you! If you need any more help then feel free to reach out. We're very grateful of your lovely feedback and thank you for your support. Love from Leeds! John & Becky x

    Great video, we’ve been going to marmaris for the past 16 years, it’s a great place, all you need is be polite and people are polite back, it does help I’m on the tall and large size. But it is a great place.
    We got friendly with the hotel staff on our first visit, we have used the same hotel for every visit, sometimes twice/ three times a year, even went to some of the youngsters weddings, they introduced us to the Turkish side of marmaris, where they eat out and socialise, it’s the side we prefer, we just have the odd mad night with the tourists

      Hi Robbie. If time permits then stay over as you'll get stamped in on a free visa anyway, gone are the days of paying £10 for a 90 day one. Ferries run each day approx 8:30am from Marmaris back to Rhodes but you'll probably need to book in advance. You could see what you wanted to during the day stop though to give you a taster of what it's like. On a night depending where you go it's family friendly restaurants with a disco and entertainment, late night shopping at the bazaar which is generally open until 23:00-00:00 or a romantic marina restaurant meal. Have a watch at our Marmaris vlogs and see what you think..we covered quite a bit but all is do-able in a day if you keep a good pace.

At the back of the bazaar look for the Turkish version of sports direct, go down the side of it between that and Medusa diamond, take the first right and follow it down. The restaurant where we had the huge platter is where the big Migros is one street behind the main road (practically opposite the government building by the dancing fountain). The borek and baklava was on a backstreet behind the bazaar at the same shop, a stone's throw from Mis Cafe. A 10min Dolmus ride will take you from your hotel to the bazaar as it's further up than we stayed. Hope it helps!

      Thanks so much for your lovely words. We stayed at the Alkan as we always go self catering. Usually we try and stay nearer to the bazaar end but as we went on a last minute package we didn't have much choice. I'd recommend the Ozturk apartments as I (John) grew up with Mehmet who runs them. They can be a bit pricey though but in a perfect location for the bazaar and dancing fountain. In all honesty there's not really anywhere that's loud, with the exception of the beach front and there aren't many hotels there. The main road where Alkan and Tekin are is steady away and a good distance from the beach area for noise but not too far to walk. In peak season a lot of hotels and apartments have their own entertainment and gets acts in weekly so you might find most of the noise is where you are but music normally finishes or gets turned down at midnight. We may see you as we're hoping to get back in September so keep an eye on our socials. If so, hit us up and we'll have an Efes! Take care x

      Hahaha no worries! We respond to everyone (even if it's negative) as it's the least people deserve for watching us. You'd find us in the Turkish quarter either at Mis Cafe, Mugla Kofteci or a random local tea shop drinking çay, alternatively somewhere in the bazaar. Basically, somewhere cheap and local hiding from fellow tourists 😆. Liman apartments are also pretty good too apparently according to my family who stayed a few years ago. Basic but clean and functional. They are owned by Liman restaurant who featured in one of the Marmaris vlogs. If you want the tourist area then look at the likes of Alkan, Tekin, Sinem... basically anywhere around Blue Port shopping centre. It's horses for courses but personally we stay well away from it if we can as we prefer it a bit more traditional. If there's anything else give us a shout either on here or our socials 🙂

    Guys you should eat homemade style hot pot Aegean Turkish food.There are plenty of restaurants that serves hot pot veggie foods in Marmaris.Trust me this is the best.
    I also would like to highly recommend Mugla Yogurtlama which is smoked eggplant,fried peppers and fries top on the stranded garlic yogurt and chilled pepper top of it.There is nothing like yogurtlama and raki.
    I love Marmaris but have not had a chance to visit for the last 10 years since I live abroad and I really miss my country and my marmaris.

    A few questions as we leave on 26/08. Where's the best place to buy a sim card? where can we listen to live turkish music? Do all dolmus's go to the castle?

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hey Simon. There's a Turkcell shop near the bazaar and we think something in Blue port shopping centre although we just hammer the WiFi out there so haven't had any experience with them. Might be worth asking in a bar as they may know someone cheaper. There's an excursion available to a Kervansaray night (Turkish night) with Mares tours which used to be good and worth looking into. Keep some smaller notes though as generally the acts work on tips. Other tour shops should sell this as well. You'll be happy to know that they all follow the main road down to the roundabout by the bazaar and marina from a certain point, so depending where you are staying you might have a choice or it might be one to take you to the area you are going to. Pickup is by the school on the opposite side. The driver will generally shout 'Centre' and stop either before or after the roundabout. The castle is about a 10 minute walk from there. When you are going back if you're not going to Içmeler then avoid using the orange Dolmus as it's a higher set fare than others. Basically you pay to go to Içmeler even if you are going 3 stops. Hope it helps!

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @simonsmart6420 Gone are the days when it was real Turkish music all over. It's basically all disco pubs and restaurants with staff making up dances to strange remixes. I can't honestly name one now. We were going to get one in Istanbul but they were expensive for what you got..can't honestly put a price on it though. Bakeries and small local restaurants are your best bet which are mainly around the bazaar area. Where we had the Turkish mixed platter was as local as you'll get and served Lahmacun. We appreciate your words, there's another 2 of ours we filmed at the same time in Marmaris on the bazaar and when we did a day trip to Dalyan on the boat. Although not exactly Marmaris we filmed Rhodes too when we nipped over there for the day on the ferry which may be of more inspo for you.

    Hey Guys, 😉 I visited Marmaris for the 1st time in July last year with my wife we loved it going back in June this year with the family. Where is the Turkish quarter at and what are the names and locations of the nice cocktail 🍸 bar you stopped at and also the local place you had the Raki and board games located TY 😉

    • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hey Stuart. The names should be listed in the vlog along with prices as we usually show the exterior as part of our filming, although as this was filmed in June 2022 you can expect things have gone up. The Turkish quarter is behind the bazaar. If you Google DeFacto then that's on the main street. DeFacto is a bit like our Matalan I'd say and well worth a look. Mis cafe is a street behind this. Take a left a bit further down between our equivalent of sports direct and the fantastic Medusa Diamond and you'll see Turkey's answer to Nandos. Take a right down there and Mis Cafe will be on your left about 40-50 metres down. Opposite that is Royal Maris where the baklava and Borek scene was filmed too. A bit further down you have a small çay (tea) shop which was about 3TL. Unfortunately I've had word that Mugla Koftesci (2 doors down on the corner from Mis Cafe has sadly closed for reasons unknown, they have possibly moved as we heard our vlog meant they got very busy very quickly which was good to hear. Cocktail wise we're a bit at a loss without re-watching the vlog. Our best guess is it's on the Marina and either Baris Cafe or the one next door but one as both had equally cheap beer prices although I vaguely remember Becky saying the cocktail was better in the bar next door but one to Baris. You'll probably notice it. June is a great time to go and normally one when we visit. We're hopefully planning on a 2nd Marmaris vlog this year catching up with what's changed etc so there's every possibility you might see us around the resort or hiding from the crowds in the Turkish quarter, somewhere like Mis Cafe. If you do, feel free to stop and have a drink with us. We always post where we are going to be on our social media group pages. Hope the info helps.

      Hey Rita. In fairness a lot don't know of these places that we've shown and we aren't sure if we made a mistake and released a true secret. Hopefully on your next visit you'll go on the hunt and find them! Look between the sports shop and Medusa diamond, take the first right and follow down and that's where everything is. The bazaar can be too much at times but we stay away from the tourist trap and sit with the locals as that is travelling to us. It's horses for courses though I suppose. • @ParksTravelGuide
      @ParksTravelGuide  Před rokem +1

      The exchange rate is always slightly better abroad. Don't get me wrong it's not a big amount but if exchanging a large amount it adds up. Lira for restaurants and bars. GBP/USD in note form for shopping in the bazaar is preferred but they accept lira too. It's just easier to know instantly how much you are spending in GBP, plus a lot of the offers are in £ like 10 boxers for £10, although these are fairly poor quality as you would probably expect but will do the trick for a while. Hope it helps

      We didn't bother as Revolut auto converts at the days bank rate. We used to do but don't tend to bother anymore. The only time it doesn't is on a weekend so it's worth storing a little but unless you don't mind paying more plus a small percentage of a fee on each transaction as the banks are closed until the Monday morning.

      No worries. The weekend fee isn't really worth worrying about and the exchange rate doesn't change massively. You may be out of pocket by a quid or less depending how much you use it. We also have a Starling card that we use as a backup and for extra ATM withdrawals. Not as fancy as Revolut but it's been a lifesaver on our 6 month trip when for some reason the Revolut card occasionally kept declining in both ATMs and shops/restaurants. We've got a Wise one too but haven't used it yet.
