That Cartridge is the cornerstone of the mythology of the AVGN legacy. Even if the game turned every NES that plays it into a brick he's still gonna keep it.

This feels like a classic AVGN episode. I don't know what changed but man this is one of the best in recent years. There's just something that works here.

I can easily tell James wrote this video, it screams instant classic. Lots of references (you can just walk over it) among so much else. This might be in the top 10 best episodes ever.

Allt he GREAT classic episodes, were basically Mike dude.
He starts the video of a clip of mike saying "It was pretty much all James, I just helped"
But as the clips continue, pulled from random streams through the years, Mike basically MADE Avgn dude. HE got the footage, he had the ideas, James took Mikes rage and made it a character. Mike acted in them, wrote for them, played for them. @@tkmaz207

This is probably my favorite episode of the modern AVGN.
Getting to see the Nerd finally beating Jekyll & Hyde after all these years is pretty awesome.
Not only that, he had to beat this game 3 times!
According to the endcredits its gameplay from James, Sean and Mike. I wouldn't doubt it if it was used footage from james a few years back and current footage from Sean and mike beating it and using that in the video. Its the production studio that helps James that does a lot of the legwork these days.@@beauwalker9820

The nerd have been feeling more classic lately which is very welcoming.
What a fun, simple, and effective parody of The Exorcist. The Elderly Nerd eating Nerds candy, the shelf confessional, the stark lighting, and the face effects on the Dr. Jekyll cartridge are just some of the standout decisions that made this really enjoyable. I also liked how patient, wise, and driven the Elderly Nerd was, it made him feel like an entirely different character which was a much better choice to go with. The power of Nintendo compels you!

missed opertunity, to have the nerd eating gnerds while drinknig a rollin rock on the rollin rocker
I liked that he slipped in a couple of (modified) lines of dialog from Ghostbusters.
Nah it's definitely exorcist 1- the ending plays out almost scene for scene. I bet James was loving this, he really likes his horror movies, I'm still hoping that one day he has another go at making movies -low budget horror comedy would be way more suitable for his skill set then overstretching himself trying to make something as big as the nerd movie

Glad to see he finally defeated it, and not just the standard ending nor the NES endings, but he also went above and beyond to beat the Famicon.
It's likely to shut fans up...but it's a neat character moment too. Now he can speedrun the game without assistance.

I love how there are no pedestrians present on level 6. It's almost as if everyone is too afraid to be outside when there is a barrage of barrels rolling through town and a maniac dropping bombs everywhere.

Its amazing how after so many years and so many episodes about this unholy creation, Jekyll and Hyde still manage to deliver for the AVGN. This game has haunted James' nightmares for almost 20 years. And he finally beat it. We don't deserve this final entry in the trilogy, but I'm overjoyed we got it. Hopefully now, James can finally be at peace.

I don't disagree it's a great episode but it feels new. We still get glimpses of greatness and those glimpses of greatness often eclipse the old stuff.

Interesting point that this is not bad game, but very bad NES version. Japanese Famicom version better in all ways, have different level variations and not so frustratingly difficult.

Fun fact: The cane also moves the bombs away from you. That’s actually the main point of the cane too I believe.
You probably know this, your microphone during acting segments is slightly muffled; other than this, this is the best episode ever.

I was kinda disappointed the Japanese version didn't have the bride take off her clothes like Samus at the end of Metroid or something....or maybe she Does, and he didn't beat it fast enough. Mwhahahahahh!

I always found it really funny that this is the Nerds most hated game and yet he has a posted board on the wall and a Tshirt of it!
From a cinematic perspective, this achieves a new level for James. It is so inspiring to see him continuinf to hone his craft after all these years. So many of us let decades of adulthood wear us down and burn us out, but he has perservered and continued to grow.

Some of the audio is scuffed but this was fantastic. James back in prime video making form.
It's super muffled for a lot of it.
That's the power of "Noise Reduction". I can only assume they had a lot of loud stuff in the background while trying to make this. Either that, or they tried to scuff the audio to make it sound like older movies (seeing as it's a huge nod to "The Exorcist", which is 50 years old), but I doubt that very much.

18:16 The Remastered Jekyll and Hyde theme is epic and well done.
While some shots of course lifted as a parody, this was still super impressive! James not only has improved as a filmmaker, but his priest acting was great as well.

I don't get why people like this. I loved the older AVGN because he actually has to say something about the game and it was always fun. But compare that to this episode: there's nothing but a clownery. He just makes a scene with swearing and bad effects, where 70% has nothing to do with playing the game. Where's the fun?
@@BestTheGuy he talked about the game's flaws, gave lots of tips to beat the game and showed all different endings. It may be not a perfect video but it was pretty nice for me. AVGN is still delivering.
Nobody complaims when James writes and edits the episode, that's the whole point.

Probably the most enjoyable part about making this video is in pre-production where James got to smash a cartridge of Jekyll and Hyde to film the opening.

This might be my new favorite episode. For about a decade my favorite has been ROB the Robot but this is on another level. Packed with subtle references (was that shot in the future with the future nerd in the coat an Oppenheimer reference?), goofy jokes, and intense gameplay, I was legit on the edge of my seat.
Excited to see what happens next.
