he did actually change it from ANN to AVGN in like 08-09 because he started reviewing different games, plus the videos became monetized and he didn't want (I assume nintendo wouldn't either) people to assume he was affiliated with them in some way, also "Nintendo" is copyrighted

I agree. It's to set up that the mandela effect that comes into play in the story. In my opinion, I like going to see his childhood home. Makes ya wonder what his life was like.
