    I don't have the patience to hand sew anything, I taught myself to sew buttons on with my machine. Nice quilt perhaps I will find the time to get one done for me this winter.

    I interrupted watching one video when I saw this pop up. Whoop! I’ve been super busy this weekend. Just sat down to rest. Great way to chill by watching you quilt. 👏👏👏🧵🪡💙 These counter quilts are great for my canning jars but are also great for 9x13 pans when you take them out of the oven. Especially when you have more than one pan of stuff this holiday dinners this season.

    Great canning mat. You did a wonderful job and you make the video so interesting to watch. This canning mat can be used for many purposes like placing casseroles that come out of the oven. I would like to quilt one just a little bigger for a picnic ground covering. I also like the fabric pattern you used, so pretty.

Too funny, I need to make one for my bf. Think I will do circles and try free motion quilting in them. Will have to hand embroider any words have a basic sewing machine, But yours is amazing love the material you found

    Hi Jeni! The counter quilt is adorable and so handy. I can think of many different ways to use this, even lining my picnic basket would be perfect. What? I didn't leave a comment the first time I watched this video...oops! Have watched some of the canning jar sew-along Pat Sloan is doing currently and knew I wanted to make a counter quilt instead and remembered your video. I think I'm going to make mine all small jars since my kitchen is so tiny. The biggest challenge will be to find fabrics that I don't mind getting stained because my electric coil range fluctuates a lot and causes siphoning. Seems it is always worst when canning tomato products, haha! Now that I've collected a few more food fabrics it is time to get going on this project. Thank you for taking the trouble to film this cute project, Jeni! Edit: Kind of wish I had an embroidery machine, wouldn't it be cute to add 'Ball' or other canning jar names to the jars?

    • @Jeni_Gough
      @Jeni_Gough  Před 7 měsíci

      I use a kitchen towel to dab my jar on before putting it on my drying mat, cuts down on staining! Yw! ❤️

    Love this canning mat. When I cross hatch my small quilting projects I use painters tape using 1 inch tape or larger and stich along the edge of the tape. Then move the tape along and keep sewing along the edge of the tape No marking and it goes faster.

    I would love to make a runner for my table with canning jars. I'm new to quilting. Should I leave some hang off the table,or even with edges.? Your mat is so cute, and you are so good at videos. I'm subscribed now. I love that you have no music. It keeps my anxiety level low. Hugs

    • @Jeni_Gough
      @Jeni_Gough  Před 2 měsíci

      Just measure the area you want have your runner and make it that size, hang off is up to you and if you have cats, dogs or toddlers, they my pull it if you have hang off. I keep mine in the center because of dogs and grand babies.

    Jeni, I'm the one that sent you the patterns...where did you find those fabrics? I've never seen any like those in Alberta. LOL, I'm lazier than you with the binding. The last seam(on the face of the quilt) I always choose a deco stitch so I don't have to worry about staying straight...although that's on big quilts. Awesome joy, it's cute as a button!

    • @pbar8439
      @pbar8439 Před 2 lety +1

      Back in the day, there was a block named the snowball block. You made it by adding squares to each corner and sewing a diagonal line in the square and flipping it over so that it is even with the edges. (like Jeni demonstrated) The snowball block was used as a setting block. Today, this technique is called snowballing after the original method used on the snowball block.

    Piecework is beyond me now that macular degeneration has robbed me of vision in one eye totally, and severely damaged the other eye, but maybe…..just I could do a whole cloth quilted mat. I have a Cricut to cut fabric because the disease distorts straight lines. I miss sewing so much. It was my life for 40 years. I just want to create one more thing, and I still have an enormous stash of fabrics that I love. We’ll see.
