Released in the Summer 1984, Beat Street was one of my favourite films of the 80's... An aspiring DJ, from the South Bronx, and his best friend, a promoter, try to get into show business by exposing people to hip-hop music and culture.
The soundtrack contains music mainly from old-school hip-hop artists including Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five, Jazzy Jay, Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic and Treacherous Three featuring beat box pioneer Doug E. Fresh but also various electro/boogie musicians such as Freeez, and the System and Juicy.
The album was certified gold in the same year.
A third volume was planned, but it was never released. The second volume was never released on CD!

As bboy who started in 1982, I feel both happy & saddened that this era has long gone. The practising, the battles, the music, the clothes & everything was so great. The greatest era for bboying was the 80's, yes, today they have more spectacular moves but, it lacks all the whole hip hop cultural feeling surrounding the scene that we had in the 80's. Another thing, people should stop calling it breakdance that shows an ignorance of the dance but still years later they are saying it still. It's called bboying, respect the dance name. Thanks for the soundtracks it brings back great memories.

53 years old n I still smile when I hear it . At 15 was the time of my life. Bombing Witt graffiti crews running crazy. Man ,times really were different. Fat laces , fresh paint, good music & can't forget the ladies.

Bboy age 11 in the 80s tronone the crew , skipping school just to practice never stopped learning, then tracked down for a second time around good times , hung the shell toes up 2001 , now 49 years old would like a third time around but take it on the chin , keep the memories
I'd say go for it mate!! You're never too old to do something you love!! A similar thing happened with me and BMX... I just couldn't stay away from it... got back into riding when I hit 30... got laughed at... still riding at 46!! :)
Watching BEAT STREET on PLUTO TV right now ! Great movie .... I saw the BREAKIN movies in the theater back in the 80's .. .... ..There always was a BREAKIN vs BEAT STREET side taking back when we were kids lol GREAT TIMES!
Beat Street is a better movie. It’s more authentic. The breakers were all from the Bronx and other areas in New York City. They had that east coast swag.
Damm. I forgot how you could rock about an hour of a party just with this soundtrack alone.

This is me and the crews Christmas movie.we get together every year and watch this.we all use to hang out back in the day(80s) and break.We still kick it together today.not much breakin or popping today.shit we are in our 50s.it takes a toll on you.lol.one of the best movies ever made.

I spent so long to find Lisa Fischer Love Shadows ( only love ) that was over 10yrs ago... i never understood why that track leading into Roxy battle was not on the soundtrack, cd version I have missing a couple of tracks.

I turned 15 in 1984. Best part of my life and a great era for music, film, fashion and life in general. Btw, I did mostly electric boogie as breakin' was harder I think. The headspins seemed too hard at the time.

Word around the campfire is that there was supposed to be a Volume 3 of the soundtrack. It's a shame, because there were so many songs in the movie that never made the soundtrack and nobody will ever know...SMH

This was so KLAZZICK but there’s one flaw in the soundtrack. They actually had a chance to put Brenda K. Starr - Vicious Beat on this daaammn album and they chose this BS “Phony Four MC's - Wappin (Bubblehead.” It’s wack on so many levels. I didn’t understand it as a child and it bothers me more as an adult. SMDH
Why oh why did they include Baptise The Beat but didn’t include Lisa Fischer’s (Only Love) Shadows? The ultimate travesty of 1984!!!
