I had this rap fully memorized (still do 32 yrs later)-and I was a 13 year old white girl lol :) I had BOTH Beat Street records (1&2 pink&yellow covers respectively ;) ) in my collection and recorded WBLS on cassettes religiously (esp Fri nights lol), fully labeled and with the tab off on the REALLY good "i KNOW this is historical" ones, so I was able to witness the beginning of rap grow (I know initial START was in the laye 70s, but Im talking "to the masses" and have ALWAYS loved having those memories. It was a really good time, esp for that age, to live in (early to mid teens in the early to mid '80s) and I am glad to have had that experience, sigh, oh how the world has changed....:(

It gave me a look at black people in another city other than my own and realized that New York looked like where I lived to an extent. Goes to show you that other than certain styles and trends we were the same where ever we were. Good times indeed.
